Electrode thickness measurement of a Si(Li) detector for the SIXA array

Cathode electrodes of the Si(Li) detector elements of the SIXA X-ray spectrometer array are formed by gold-palladium alloy contact layers. The equivalent thickness of gold in one element was measured by observing the characteristic L-shell X-rays of gold excited by monochromatised synchrotron radiation with photon energies above the L3 absorption edge of gold. The results obtained at 4 different photon energies below the L2 edge yield an average value of 22.4(35) nm which is consistent with the earlier result extracted from detection efficiency measurements. Monikulttuuristen perheretkien suunnittelu ja toteutus

Tämä opinnäytetyö käsittelee maahanmuuttajan kotouttamis- ja kotoutumisprosessia, maahanmuuton vaikutusta maahanmuuttajan hyvinvointiin sekä taidetta ja kulttuuria hyvinvoinnin edistäjinä. Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli järjestää kaksi päivänmittaista retkeä, joilla tavoiteltaisiin maahanmuuttajien hyvinvoinnin edistämistä taiteen ja kulttuurin keinoin. Tarkoituksena ei ollut tutkia kasvaako osallistujien hyvinvointi näiden retkien vaikutuksesta vaan millaisia hyvinvoinnin edistämisen keinoja taide ja kulttuuri voivat ylipäänsä tarjota tämän tyyppisille retkille. Suurin osa retkille osallistujista oli lapsia ja retkiohjelma oli pääosin heille suunnattu, joten suunnittelussa otettiin myös huomioon lasten oma kulttuuri ja lasten erilaiset taidekäsitykset. Aikaisempien tutkimusten pohjalta kulttuurin todettiin edistävän hyvinvointia monien eri väylien kautta, mutta retkien suunnittelussa päädyttiin keskittymään pääasiassa yhteisöllisyyteen ja itseilmaisuun hyvinvoinnin edistämisen välineinä.This thesis work deals with immigrant’s integration and assimilation process, immigration’s impacts on immigrant’s welfare and how art and culture can promote welfare. The intention was to organize two trips with the aim of promoting the welfare of the immigrants through art and culture. It was not meant to study does these specific day trips promote the welfare of the participants but what kind of tools art and culture can offer to welfare promoting for these kind of trips. Most of the participants were children and the trip program was mainly aimed at them so children’s own culture and their conceptions of art were taken into account in the planning process. Based on earlier researches, culture was found to promote the welfare in many different ways. However, in the planning process of the trips the main focus was in the sense of community and self-expression in promoting welfare

Stocks and residential real estate as investment options in Finland

This study focuses on two asset classes, residential real estate and stocks, and their roles as investment options in Finland. The purpose of this study is to observe and analyse the fundamental characteristics of both asset classes. Residential real estate and stocks have historically not differed in terms of return as was discussed by Shiller in his book Irrational Exuberance in 2015. It is therefore useful to study the potential and obligations brought on by purchasing these asset types alone and simultaneously. By doing this, an investor can consider factors and scenarios that are not necessarily apparent at first glance and manage their risk better. I have approached this topic with the help of relevant literature pertaining to both stocks and residential real estate. This data was complemented with graphs of historical price developments and statements on what they could mean in the future. In this study I wanted to answer whether it is a good decision to invest in both stocks and residential real estate simultaneously. My hypothesis was, yes, it is a good decision, as these assets produce returns differently. I attempted to challenge this hypothesis by searching for evidence that would prove otherwise. I found differing opinions on the future of correlation between the asset classes but eventually discovered no evidence that would fully support a negative answer. It is therefore a good decision to invest in both stocks and residential real estate simultaneously

Eri valmistajien tietoverkkokytkimien yhteensopivuus Savonia-ammattikorkeakoulun verkossa

Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli testata ja arvioida toisen tason Dell Networking N2048P -kytkimen yhteensopivuutta ja toimivuutta Savonia-ammattikorkeakoulun tietoverkossa. Kytkintä arvioitiin tutustumalla kytkimen teknisiin ominaisuuksiin ja yhteensopivuuteen Ciscon Inc:n valmistamien tietoverkkolaitteiden kanssa, joista Savonian-ammattikorkeakoulun tietoverkko koostuu. Työn avulla selvitettiin, tulisiko Savonian-ammattikorkeakoulun käyttää Dell N2048P -tietoverkkokytkimiä tietoverkossaan. Opinnäytetyössä keskityttiin tietoverkkokytkimiin ja niiden ominaisuuksiin. Tietoverkkokytkimet jakautuivat toisen tason ja kolmannen tason kytkimiin. Opinnäytetyössä tutustuttiin muutamiin kytkimien käyttämiin standardeihin, joita ovat VLAN, Trunking, Spanning-Tree, EtherChannel ja DHCP. Kytkimien pinottavuus ja PoE-porttien ominaisuudet olivat tärkeitä teknisiä ominaisuuksia. Dell ja Cisco -tietoverkkokytkimien välillä testattiin kytkimien yhteensopivuutta testaavia kytkentöjä, kuten VLAN, Trunking, Spanning-Tree, EtherChannel ja DHCP -kytkentöjä. Kytkentöjä tuloksia tarkastelemalla arvioitiin kytkimen yhteensopivuutta Savonia-ammattikorkeakoulun tietoverkkoon. Kytkentöjä testattiin kytkemällä Dell N2048P -kytkin Savonia-ammattikorkeakoulun Cisco-laboratoriossa käytettäviin tietoverkkokytkimiin. Opinnäytetyö oli onnistunut ja testatusta kytkimestä saaduilla tuloksilla pystyttiin arvioimaan kytkimen toimivuutta Savonia-ammattikorkeakoulun tietoverkossa. Kytkennät olivat onnistuneita ja Dell N2048P -kytkintä pystyttiin käyttämään yhdessä Ciscon tietoverkkolaitteiden kanssa, mutta pinottavuudessa laitteiden välillä olevien yhteensopivuusongelmien vuoksi Dell N2048P -kytkintä ei voida käyttää tehokkaasti tietoverkossa. Mittaustulosten mukaan Dell N2048P ei ole kannattava investointi Savonia-ammattikorkeakoululle.The aim of the thesis was to test and create an estimate of the compatibility and functionality of Dell Networking N2048P Layer 2 switches in Savonia University of Applied Sciences network. A review was conducted of the tech-nical characteristics and compatibility with Cisco Inc manufactured network devices, which are used in the Savonia University of Applied Sciences network. The thesis was done to estimate if Savonia University of Applied Sciences should use Dell N2048P network switches on their network. The thesis focused on the network switches and their features. The data network switches are divided into layer 2 and Layer 3 switches. Few standards of the switches were inspected in the thesis, such as VLAN, Trunking, Span-ning-Tree, Etherchannel and DHCP. Stacking of the switches and PoE-port capabilities were important technical fea-tures. The compatibility of switches between Dell and Cisco Networking switches was tested using configurations, such as VLAN, Trunking, Spanning-Tree, Etherchannel and DHCP. The review of the compatibility in the Savonia University of Applied Sciences network was created by surveying the configurations between devices. Configurations were carried out by connecting the Dell N2048P switch with the network devices used in the Savonia University of Applied Sciences Cisco laboratory. The thesis was successful and the results of the tested switch were used to create a summary of the switch. Con-nections were successful and the Dell N2048P switch could be used with the Cisco network device, but due to com-patibility issues with stacking between devices, the Dell N2048P switch cannot be used effectively in the network. The result of the summary is that Dell N2048P is not a worthwhile investment for the Savonia University of Applied Sciences

"Äiti, me mennään vanhusten esikouluun!" : Lasten ja vanhusten yhteiset toimintatuokiot

Yhteiskunnassamme vanhusten ja lasten välinen vuorovaikutus jää usein vähäiseksi. Sosiaaliset suhteet ja vuorovaikutus eri-ikäisten kanssa vahvistavat yksilön itsetuntoa sekä pitävät yllä toimintakykyä ja hyvinvointia. Sukupolvien väliset kohtaamiset lisäävät lapsen suvaitsevaisuutta ja myönteisyyttä erilaisuutta kohtaan sekä monipuolistavat lapsen käsitystä vanhuksista ja vanhenemisesta. Toiminnallisessa opinnäytetyössä järjestettiin vanhuksille ja lapsille yhteisiä toimintatuokioita. Toimeksiantajana opinnäytetyössä oli Ilvola-Säätiön vanhusten päivätoiminta ja yhteistyökumppanina Kirkkopuiston Montessori-päiväkoti. Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli järjestää lasten ja vanhusten normaalista arjesta poikkeavaa toimintaa ja lisätä heidän mahdollisuuttaan vuorovaikutukseen eri ikäpolvien kanssa. Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli lisätä osallisuutta molemmissa ryhmissä ja saada aikaan hyviä kohtaamisia, jotka ovat merkityksellisiä molemmille asiakasryhmille. Tavoitteena oli myös yhteistyön jatkuminen päiväkodin ja vanhusten päivätoiminnan välillä. Lapset ja vanhukset suunnittelivat toimintatuokiot itse. Neljä tuokiota pidettiin vanhusten päivätoiminnan tiloissa Ilvola-Säätiön palvelukeskuksessa. Tuokiot sisälsivät laululeikkejä, askartelua ja työskentelyä päiväkodin välineistöllä. Tuokioita arvioitiin havainnoimalla lasten ja vanhusten viihtyvyyttä toiminnan aikana ja haastattelemalla molemmat ryhmät erikseen toiminnan jälkeen. Arvioinnin perusteella sekä lapset että vanhukset viihtyivät toimintatuokioissa ja olisivat kiinnostuneita jatkamaan yhteistyötä. Vanhuksille toimiminen lasten kanssa oli merkityksellistä ja antoi elämäniloa. Lapset saivat uudenlaisia kokemuksia ja heidän vuorovaikutustaitonsa vanhusten kanssa paranivat.In our society interaction between the elderly and children is often marginalized. Social relations and interaction with people of different ages can strengthen individual’s self-esteem, maintain functional capacity and well-being. Intergenerational practice increases the child’s tolerance and positive attitudes towards differences, as well as diversifies the child’s perception of the elderly and the aging. In this functional thesis active moments were arranged for the elderly and children. The client organization in this thesis was Ilvola Foundation’s day center for the elderly and the co-operation partner was Kirkkopuisto Montessor kindergarten. The purpose of this thesis was to arrange to children and the elderly activities which differ from their normal day routines and to increase their possibilities to be in interaction with people of different ages. The aim in this thesis was to increase inclusion and achieve good encounters, which were meaningful for both groups. Another aim was that co-operation between kindergarten and day center for the elderly would continue. Children and the elderly planned the interactive moments themselves. Four moments were organized in Ilvola Foundation’s day center. The moments included song plays, hobby crafting and using in the equipment of the kindergarten. The moments were evaluated by observing the enjoyment during the moments and interviewing both groups after the moments. Based on the evaluation, children and the elderly enjoyed the sessions and were interested in continuing the co-operation. For the elderly the activity moments with children were meaningful and gave them some joy of life. Children got new experiences and their interaction skills with the elderly improved

Perehdytyskansio Käpymetsän päiväkotiin

Kehittämishankkeeni tavoitteena oli saada aikaan toimiva perehdytyskansio Käpymetsän päiväkotiin. Olennaisena osana perehdytyskansiossa oli tuoda esille vuoropäiväkodin toimintaan liittyviä erityispiirteitä ja saada yhdenmukaiset toimintamallit eri käytäntöihin helpottamaan jokapäiväisten tehtävien hoitoa. Lisäksi tavoitteena oli selvittää, mikä merkitys Käpymetsän henkilökunnan mielestä perehdytyskansiolla on. Kehittämishanke on toteutettu toimintatutkimuksena, joka toteutettiin Käpymetsän päiväkodissa vuosien 2012-1013 aikana. Keräsin aineistoa perehdytyskansioon Käpymetsän henkilökunnalta kyselyllä ja ryhmähaastatteluilla. Perehdytyskansion koe-käyttöön oton jälkeen tein vielä kyselyn, mitä henkilökunta oli mieltä kansiosta ja mikä merkitys perehdytyskansiolla nähtiin olevan. Teoreettisessa viitekehyksessä käyn läpi perehdytystä yleisellä tasolla, sekä toimivaa työyhteisöä. Kehittämishankkeen konkreettisena tuotoksena oli valmis perehdytyskansio Käpymetsän päiväkotiin. Perehdytyskansio toimii tukena ja apuna käytännön työssä ja on tärkeä tietopaketti uusille työntekijöille, sijaisille ja opiskelijoille. Perehdytyskansio koettiin erittäin tärkeäksi työvälineeksi kokonaisvaltaiselle työnteolle ja kokonaisuutena siihen oltiin tyytyväisiä.The goal of my development project was to achieve a working orientation folder to the Käpymetsä day care centre. A significant part of the orientation folder was to bring forth special operational features of a 24-hour day care centre and to achieve uniform a approach to different practices to help everyday tasks. Additionally the goal was to determine, what significance the Käpymetsä staff thought the orientation folder has. The development project has been carried out as an action research, which was carried out in the Käpymetsä day care centre between the years 2012-2013. I gathered materials to the orientation folder from an inquiry to the Käpymetsä day care centre staff and group interviews. After the trial of the orientation folder I made an additional survey, about what the staff thought about the folder and what significance orientation the folder was considered to have. In the theoretical reference I go through orientation at on a general level, as well as a functional working community. The concrete result of the development project was a orientation folder to the Käpymetsä day care centre. The orientation folder functions as a supportive and assisting tool in practical work and is an important information package to new employees, substitute workers and students. The Orientation folder was considered as a very important tool to comprehensive work and it received and overall satisfaction

Pientaloalueen melusuojaus -meluseinä osana kaupunkikuvaa

Tässä opinnäytteessä käsitellään meluesteiden suunnitteluun liittyviä rakenteellisia ja kaupunkikuvallisia ominaisuuksia sekä erityisesti meluesteen ja ympäröivän arkkitehtuurin yhteensovittamista pientaloalueilla. Melusuojauksen tarve kasvaa jatkuvasti suomalaisilla asuinalueilla. Tämä johtaa meluesteiden näkyvyyden lisääntymiseen kaupunkikuvassa. Työn tilaajan tehtävänantona oli suunnitella pientaloalueille sopiva meluaita. Pientaloalueiden meluesteiden sovittamiseksi kaupunkikuvaan ei ole olemassa erillistä ohjetta. Työssä tutkittiin olemassa olevia meluesteiden suunnitteluohjeita ja pyrittiin löytämään niistä rakenteelliset suunnittelun reunaehdot. Kirjallisuuskatsauksessa selvisi, että meluesteiden suunnitteluohjeissa painotetaan enemmän huollettavuutta ja edullissuutta, kuin kaupunkikuvallisia ominaisuuksia. Kirjallisuuskatsauksen pohjalta löytyi selkeä tarve meluesteiden kaupunkikuvaan keskittyvälle ohjeelle. Työssä kartoitettiin myös Benchmark- menetelmän avulla olemassa olevia, asuinalueilla sijaitsevia meluesteitä. Niiden pohjalta määritettiin suunnitteluajurit meluestemallistolle sekä tarkennettiin suunnittelualueiksi rintamamiestaloalueet ja valmistaloalueet. Työn tuloksena kehitettiin tilaajan tarpeisiin soveltuva, erilaisten pientaloalueiden ominaispiirteet huomioon ottava meluesteratkaisu, joka on sekä kaupunkikuvallisesti, taloudellisesti että rakenteellisesti helposti ylläpidettävä. Opinnäyte täydentää myös meluesteiden suunnittelukäytäntöjen ohjeistusta

Virtuaalikoneen testaaminen

Euroopan hiukkasfysiikan tutkimuskeskus CERN julkaisee maailman suurimmalta hiukkastörmäyttimeltä kerättyä tietoaineistoa vuodelta 2011. Tämä tieto on nyt kaikkien saatavilla. CERN tarjoaa tiedon analyysiin virtuaalisen työympäristön sekä tarvittavat ohjelmistot. Opinnäytetyön aiheena on testata kyseistä virtuaaliympäristöä sekä sen toimivuutta eri käyttöjärjestelmillä sekä laitekokoonpanoilla. Työn tehtävänä oli tarkastella virtuaalikoneen yleistä toimivuutta sekä havaita mahdolliset puutteet ja kehitellä näihin ratkaisut. Testauksessa käytettiin avoimen lähdekoodin virtualisointiohjelmaa, Virtualboxia. Testauksessa käytettiin kolmea eri isäntäkonetta sekä kolmea yleisintä käyttöjärjestelmää. Työlle asetetut tavoitteet saavutettiin. Testausten perusteella virtuaaliympäristön toimivuus oli sujuvaa eikä eroavaisuuksia havaittu käyttöjärjestelmien välillä. Käyttöönotossa sekä käytössä havaitut ongelmatilanteet saatiin selvitettyä.The European Organization for Nuclear Research CERN publishes data collected in 2011 from LHC, Large Hydron Collider. This data is now available for everyone. CERN offers for the research a virtual working environment and the necessary software. The subject of this thesis is to test this virtual environment and its functionality with different operating systems and hardware combinations. The goal for the project was to explore the basic functionality of the virtual machine and to detect possible problems and generate solutions for these. Testings were made with open source virtualization software called Virtualbox. There were three host computers used with three the most commonly used operating systems. The goals for the testings were achieved. There was no difference between operating systems or hardware combinations. The problems and solutions in starting the virtual machine and the problems related to the usage were discovered and solved
