El mite de la terra alta

La identificació del camp amb la genuïnitat no és exclusiva de la cultura catalana. L’article analitza la construcció d’aquest mite en la literatura catalana del segle xix, prestant particular atenció a la derivació patriòtica que uneix paisatge, habitants i tradicions rurals amb la Catalunya real que lentament anava desapareixent com a resultat de les revolucions polítiques i industrials. El mite de la terra alta ha proporcionat símbols tan freqüentment utilitzats com ara el de la barretina (un tipus de capell) i la muntanya, així com alguns debats ben interessants sobre l’organització tradicional de la família i els contrastos entre camp-ciutat i tradició-revolució

The Inheritance of Modernisme : Antoni Fuster i Valldeperes

This article explores the characteristics of the literature of writers who, when literary Catalan modernism had died out, used many of the features of the movement in their work. An analysis of the costumbrism-based novel Perot i l'Estel (1932), by Antoni Fuster Valldeperes, shows the return to the debate on madness, the expression of individual standpoints and the portrayal of a wide range of revolutionary ideals, the main themes of which are Catalanism, universalism, Republicanism and anarchism

Dos Hesíodes per a una teogonia: mitologia nacional catalana

This article emphasizes the decisive role played by Antoni de Bofarull and Víctor Balaguer in constructing the ideas and imagery which would feed Catalanist thought as well as their role in creating a Catalan national mythology. The analysis centres on the activities of these two writers from the 1840s to the 1860s, which fostered a better understanding among Catalans of their own history and which, above all, provided the foundation on which Catalonia could be characterized as an intrinsically democratic country. This said, they also gave importance to Catalan medieval institutions (and to those who defended them when any king tried to devalue them) as well as justifying the rebellious character of the Catalans. This can be seen in revolts against injustice and absolutism such as the war with John II, the Segadors war, and the War of the Spanish Succession, as well as in phenomena such as banditry
