Partitioning edge-coloured complete graphs into monochromatic cycles and paths

A conjecture of Erd\H{o}s, Gy\'arf\'as, and Pyber says that in any edge-colouring of a complete graph with r colours, it is possible to cover all the vertices with r vertex-disjoint monochromatic cycles. So far, this conjecture has been proven only for r = 2. In this paper we show that in fact this conjecture is false for all r > 2. In contrast to this, we show that in any edge-colouring of a complete graph with three colours, it is possible to cover all the vertices with three vertex-disjoint monochromatic paths, proving a particular case of a conjecture due to Gy\'arf\'as. As an intermediate result we show that in any edge-colouring of the complete graph with the colours red and blue, it is possible to cover all the vertices with a red path, and a disjoint blue balanced complete bipartite graph.Comment: 25 pages, 3 figure

Wavelet-based euclidean distance for image quality assessment

International audienceImage quality assessment (QA) mimics the user's ability in evaluating image distortion. The presented technique uses a wavelet analysis and a distance measure associated to it. As often noticed, the wavelet analysis is a good approximation of the human visual system (HVS). The main contribution of this paper is the definition of a wavelet-based euclidean distance which embeds both, the deep-structure of the images and the specific orientation of every subband. From Images to Schemas

International audienceIn Content Based Image Retrieval (CBIR), images are segmented to synthesize image information. Among several characteristics like color or edges, texture is useful for segmenting. This paper proposes an intensive multiresolution approach to texture segmentation based on a wavelet transform. The technique delivers schematic descriptions of images. That is to say, it provides the main regions of interest (ROIs) according to image information. Firstly, the process divides images into 2 × 2 blocks. Then, it tracks texture through the multiresolution offered by the wavelet transform to form featuring vectors. Next, a K-means algorithm partitions the texture vector space into clusters. É tempo de aquilombar: da tecnologia ancestral à produção cultural contemporânea

Neste ensaio, busco desenvolver uma reflexão acerca do aquilombamento em sua dimensão ancestral, social e cultural. Para tanto, recorro ao legado deixado pela pesquisadora Beatriz Nascimento sobre a historiografia da instituição quilombo no Brasil, com o objetivo de compreender suas apropriações e desdobramentos através do tempo até alcançar um conceito de aquilombamento que considere sua inscrição no presente e suas possibilidades de futuro. This book presents first function transforms. These transforms lead to consider a function not only in the temporal or spatial domain but also in the frequency domain. The digitization and compression of signals are then explained. Both compression process, i.e. quantization and coding, refer to the information theory of Claude Shannon that is also described. Finally, this paper discusses the compression models chosen for audio and video signals. These models allow loss of information when the human perception is less sensitive while maintaining a relatively high accuracy when the human perception ask for it.Le multimédia et la compression propose un parcours initiatique au sein des théories et des techniques de compression à l'origine du multimédia actuel et futur. Cet ouvrage présente en premier les transformées de fonctions. La numérisation et la compression des signaux sont ensuite expliquées. Les deux processus de compression que sont la quantification et la codification font référence à la théorie de l'information de Claude Shannon qui est aussi décrite. Jovens consultores e trabalho : uma análise a partir de histórias de vida

O presente trabalho visa compreender como as individualidades dos jovens consultores interligam entre si e com a sociedade envolvente, por meio da pesquisa em história de vida. Nesse sentido, o entendimento acerca da (conhecida como) geração Y se faz necessário e constitui o pano de fundo deste estudo. Conhecida por romper com características relevantes de sua geração antecessora, a geração Y, pode surpreender ao apresentar semelhanças com a geração X ao ser analisada em maior profundidade. A partir deste entendimento, optou-se pelo método de pesquisa em história de vida para conhecer oito jovens consultores(as) e suas trajetórias, de forma a entender como foram suas vidas e como estes se direcionaram para um trabalho conhecido, muitas vezes, por ser composto por uma extensa rotina de trabalho. Por meio de entrevistas, foi possível observar dois principais aspectos comuns entre os jovens consultores analisados: 1) a composição familiar e a alta densidade de capital cultural; 2) a alta atratividade do trabalho em consultoria para esses jovens, ao mesmo tempo em que estes não interpretam esse trabalho como algo de longo prazo. Acredita-se que o presente trabalho pode estimular reflexões acerca da então entitulada geração Y.This work aims to understand how the individualities of young consultants interconnect with each other and with the surrounding society, through research in life history. The understanding of (known as) Generation Y is necessary and constitutes the background of this study. Known for breaking with relevant characteristics of its predecessor generation, Generation Y, may surprise by presenting similarities with Generation X when analyzed in greater depth. Based on this understanding, we opted for the life history research method to meet eight young consultants and their trajectories, in order to understand how their lives were so far and how they were directed to a work known as being composed of an extensive work routine. Through in-depth interviews, it was possible to observe two main common aspects among young consultants: 1) the family composition and a high density of cultural capital; 2) the high attractiveness of consulting work for these young people, even though they do not see this work as something long-term. It is believed that this work can stimulate reflections on the so-called Y generation

Fermentando resistência: organização coletiva de mulheres militantes para a produção de cerveja artesanal no Rio de Janeiro

Curso de Especialização em AgroecossistemasO número de cervejarias registradas no Brasil aumentou significativamente nos últimos anos. Iniciativas de coletivos de mulheres produtoras de cerveja artesanal vêem contribuindo para esse aumento e para desconstruir uma estruturação masculinizada da prática cervejeira. Nesse sentido, sob a perspectiva do Materialismo Histórico Dialético, buscou-se discutir os desafios e possibilidades do trabalho coletivo de mulheres militantes envolvidas na produção de cerveja artesanal. Utilizamos uma metodologia de natureza qualitativa, composta por pesquisa bibliográfica, aplicação de entrevista estruturada e elaboração de material formativo em forma de caderno pedagógico. Foi possível observar que as práticas dos coletivos estudados se deparam constantemente com os desafios apresentados por uma sociedade estruturada no patriarcado, lucro, racismo, na exploração das classes sociais e apropriação dos meios de produção. E, que o trabalho coletivo cooperado possui papel fundamental para a existência e resistência das iniciativas. A dificuldade no acesso a um material sistematizado e focado nas dúvidas e desafios iniciais apresentada pelas entrevistadas foi esteio da estruturação do caderno pedagógico que visa estimular e facilitar etapas de organização destes e novos coletivos de mulheres cervejeiras.The number of registered breweries in Brazil has increased significantly in recent years. Initiatives by collectives of women craft beer producers are contributing to this increase and to deconstruct a masculinized structure of the beer practice. In this sense, from the perspective of Historical Dialectical Materialism, were discussed the challenges and possibilities of the collective work of militant women involved in the production of craft beer. We use a qualitative methodology, consisting of bibliographic research, application of structured interviews and preparation of training material in the form of a pedagogical notebook. It was possible to observe that the practices of the collectives studied are constantly faced with the challenges presented by a society structured in patriarchy, profit, racism, in the exploitation of social classes and appropriation of the means of production. And, that the cooperative collective work plays a fundamental role for the existence and resistance of the initiatives. The difficulty in accessing a systematized and focused material on the initial doubts and challenges presented by the interviewees was the basis for structuring the training pedagogical notebook that aims to encourage and facilitate stages of organization of these and new collectives of women brewers
