Feeling Relational: The Use of Buddhist Meditation in Restorative Practices

Some theorists have argued that restorative justice can be defined as a theory of justice based on the. relationality of self-the idea that the self exists in and through its relationships with others. This account of self, while analytically compelling, conflicts with our intuitions of individuality I argue that Buddhist metaphysics provides an explanation of this conflict, and that meditation practice can help restorative justice practitioners develop an intuitive understanding of the relationality of self

The relation of the composition of petroleum to its origin and occurrence

Petroleum Is a mixture of hydrocarbons. It is a liquid varying from colorless, through yellow and brown to black. It varies from 1.0 to 0.80 in specific gravity, which corresponds to 10° to 45° Beaume. It varies widely in physical properties, such as viscosity, ignition point, polarization of light, etc. Chemically it is composed essentially of carbon and hydrogen, but usually contains impurities such as sulphur and nitrogen. Non-cancellation of electroweak logarithms in high-energy scattering

We study electroweak Sudakov corrections in high energy scattering, and the cancellation between real and virtual Sudakov corrections. Numerical results are given for the case of heavy quark production by gluon collisions involving the rates $gg \to t \bar t, b \bar b, t \bar b W, t \bar t Z, b \bar b Z, t \bar t H, b \bar b H$. Gauge boson virtual corrections are related to real transverse gauge boson emission, and Higgs virtual corrections to Higgs and longitudinal gauge boson emission. At the LHC, electroweak corrections become important in the TeV regime. At the proposed 100 TeV collider, electroweak interactions enter a new regime, where the corrections are very large and need to be resummed.Comment: 11 pages, 12 figures, 1 table. v2: Journal versio

Fluctuating Asymmetry and Its Relationship to Established Indicators of Environmental Stress.

Fluctuating asymmetry (FA) is commonly thought to be a predictor of environmental stress. However, the relationship between FA and established indicators for environmental stress has received little attention. In this study, 10-38 specimens of the freshwater fish Rhinichthys atratulus were collected from 15 natural populations under varying amounts of environmental stress. Asymmetry measurements in three bilateral characters of the specimens were used to investigate the relationship between FA and established indicators of environmental stress. Significant differences in the magnitude of FA were observed between sampling locations. However, the relationship between estimates of FA and established indicators produced varying results. The present study concludes with a discussion on the usefulness of FA as a bioindicator for environmental stress and implications for future studies
