Probabilistic Opacity in Refinement-Based Modeling
Given a probabilistic transition system (PTS) partially observed by
an attacker, and an -regular predicate over the traces of
, measuring the disclosure of the secret in means
computing the probability that an attacker who observes a run of can
ascertain that its trace belongs to . In the context of refinement, we
consider specifications given as Interval-valued Discrete Time Markov Chains
(IDTMCs), which are underspecified Markov chains where probabilities on edges
are only required to belong to intervals. Scheduling an IDTMC produces
a concrete implementation as a PTS and we define the worst case disclosure of
secret in as the maximal disclosure of over all
PTSs thus produced. We compute this value for a subclass of IDTMCs and we prove
that refinement can only improve the opacity of implementations

Opacity for Linear Constraint Markov Chains
On a partially observed system, a secret Ï is opaque if an observer cannot ascertain that its trace belongs to Ï. We consider specifications given as Constraint Markov Chains (CMC), which are underspec-ified Markov chains where probabilities on edges are required to belong to some set. The nondeterminism is resolved by a scheduler, and opacity on this model is defined as a worst case measure over all implementations obtained by scheduling. This measures the information obtained by a passive observer when the system is controlled by the smartest sched-uler in coalition with the observer. When restricting to the subclass of Linear CMC, we compute (or approximate) this measure and prove that refinement of a specification can only improve opacity

The first objective of this book is to define and discuss the meaning of truth in mathematics. We explore logics, both propositional and first-order , and the construction of proofs, both formally and human-targeted. Using the proof tools, this book then explores some very fundamental definitions of mathematics through set theory. This theory is then put in practice in several applications. The particular (but quite widespread) case of equivalence and order relations is studied with detail. Then we introduces sequences and proofs by induction, followed by number theory. Finally, a small introduction to combinatorics is given
Correlated evolution of structure and mechanical loss of a sputtered silica film
Energy dissipation in amorphous coatings severely affects high-precision
optical and quantum transducers. In order to isolate the source of coating
loss, we performed an extensive study of Raman scattering and mechanical loss
of a thermally-treated sputtered silica coating. Our results show that loss is
correlated with the population of three-membered rings of Si-O tetrahedral
units, and support the evidence that thermal treatment reduces the density of
metastable states separated by a characteristic energy of about 0.5 eV, in
favour of an increase of the states separated by smaller activation energies.
Finally, we conclude that three-fold rings are involved in the relaxation
mechanisms only if they belong to more complex chain-like structures of 10 to
100 tetrahedra.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure
A simulation framework for rapid prototyping and evaluation of thermal mitigation techniques in many-core architectures
International audienceModern SoCs are characterized by increasing power density and consequently increasing temperature, that directly impacts performances, reliability and cost of a device through its packaging. Thermal issues need to be predicted and mitigated as early as possible in the design flow, when the optimization opportunities are the highest. In this paper, we present an efficient framework for the design of dynamic thermal mitigation schemes based on a high-level SystemC virtual prototype tightly coupled with efficient power and thermal simulation tools. We demonstrate the benefit of our approach through silicon comparison with the SThorm 64-core architecture and provide simulation speed results making it a sound solution for the design of thermal mitigation early in the flow
Observation of a Correlation Between Internal friction and Urbach Energy in Amorphous Oxides Thin Films
We have investigated by spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE, 190-1700 nm) the optical properties of uniform, amorphous thin films of Ta2O5 and Nb2O5 as deposited and after annealing, and after so-called "doping" with Ti atoms which leads to mixed oxides. Ta2O5 and Ti:Ta2O5 are currently used as high-index components in Bragg reflectors for Gravitational Wave Detectors. Parallel to the optical investigation, we measured the mechanical energy dissipation of the same coatings, through the so-called "loss angle" \u3d5\u2009=\u2009Q-1, which quantifies the energy loss in materials. By applying the well-known Cody-Lorentz model in the analysis of SE data we have been able to derive accurate information on the fundamental absorption edge through important parameters related to the electronic density of states, such as the optical gap (Eg) and the energy width of the exponential Urbach tail (the Urbach energy EU). We have found that EU is neatly reduced by suitable annealing as is also perceptible from direct inspection of SE data. Ti-doping also points to a minor decrease of EU. The reduction of EU parallels a lowering of the mechanical losses quantified by the loss angle \u3d5. The correlation highlights that both the electronic states responsible of Urbach tail and the internal friction are sensitive to a self-correlation of defects on a medium-range scale, which is promoted by annealing and in our case, to a lesser extent, by doping. These observations may contribute to a better understanding of the relationship between structural and mechanical properties in amorphous oxides
Realization of low-loss mirrors with sub-nanometer flatness for future gravitational wave detectors
The second generation of gravitational wave detectors will aim at improving by an order of magnitude their sensitivity versus the present ones (LIGO and VIRGO). These detectors are based on long-baseline Michelson interferometer with high finesse Fabry-Perot cavity in the arms and have strong requirements on the mirrors quality. These large low-loss mirrors (340 mm in diameter, 200 mm thick) must have a near perfect flatness. The coating process shall not add surface figure Zernike terms higher than second order with amplitude >0.5 nm over the central 160 mm diameter. The limits for absorption and scattering losses are respectively 0.5 and 5 ppm. For each cavity the maximum loss budget due to the surface figure error should be smaller than 50 ppm. Moreover the transmission matching between the two inputs mirrors must be better than 99%.
We describe the different configurations that were explored in order to respect all these requirements. Coatings are done using IBS.
The two first configurations based on a single rotation motion combined or not with uniformity masks allow to obtain coating thickness uniformity around 0.2 % rms on 160 mm diameter. But this is not sufficient to meet all the specifications.
A planetary motion completed by masking technique has been studied. With simulated values the loss cavity is below 20 ppm, better than the requirements. First experimental results obtained with the planetary system will be presented
