La palabra como fuerza generadora de la realidad en Borges

El objetivo de este trabajo es mostrar el interés de Jorge Luis Borges en la palabra como un instrumento capaz de crear realidad, un aspecto que, en su conjunto, está continuamente de presente en la obra del escritor argentino. A fin de centrarse en la grandeza de este potencial creativo, explora las doctrinas esotéricas de diferentes culturas y en diferentes momentos, especialmente dentro de la cultura judía. Examina el ritual cabalístico para descubrir, por un lado, el significado del nombre de Dios, y, por otro, la creación del Golem (simulacro de un hombre que los sabios judíos crean por medio de la palabra, aunque, paradójicamente, no está dotado de discurso). Pero esto no satisface al escritor y se vuelve a la palabra poética como el verdadero creador de la realidad misma.The aim of this paper is to show Jorge Luis Borges interest in the word as an instrument capable of creating reality, an aspect which is continually evident in the Argentine writer's work as a whole. In order to focus on the greatness of this creative potential, he explores esoteric doctrines in different cultures and at different times, dwelling particularly on Jewish culture. He examines cabalistic ritual to discover, on the one hand, the meaning of God's name, and, on the other, the creation of the Golem (the simulacrum of a man that the Jewish sages create by means of the word, although paradoxically he is not endowed with speech). La dialéctica autor/lector en "La muerte y la brújula" de Borges: un análisis narratológico

Este ensayo sobre Borges estudia "La muerte y la brújula", desde una perspectiva narrativa. Este enfoque permite que el lector real para rastrear las lecturas de los diferentes personajes de la historia. La interpretación de los acontecimientos varía según el carácter, cada uno se centra en un aspecto diferente de la lectura, desde diferentes perspectivas religiosas o ideológicas. Por lo tanto, cometen errores, que resultan fatales para uno de ellos.This essay studies Borges's “La muerte y la brújula” from a narratological perspective. This approach allows the real reader to trace the readings of the various characters in the story. The interpretation of events varies according to the character; each focuses on a different aspect of the reading, from differing religious or ideological perspectives. Etopeya de los Montenegro, de las "Comedias bárbaras", a través de la simbología animal

Este trabajo lleva a cabo el análisis de la familia Montenegro en las "Comedias bárbaras", de Valle-Inclán, para demostrar que el escritor utiliza el simbolismo tradicional de algunos animales --especialmente el caballo, el águila y la dicotomía entre el lobo y el perro-- para evidenciar la degradación de la actitud y el comportamiento feudal, que sigue presente en la Galicia rural. Pero, al mismo tiempo y por medio de un dispositivo idéntico, muestra su admiración y defensa de las valiosas virtudes de la caballería, representados por los caracteres del Mayorazgo y su hijo Cara de Plata.In this paper, an analysis of the Montenegro family from Valle-Inclán's “Comedias bárbaras” is carried out to demonstrate that the writer uses the traditional symbolism of some animals —specifically the horse, the eagle and the dichotomy of wolf and dogto evince the degradation of the feudal attitude and behaviour, still present in rural Galicia. But, at the same time and by means of identical device, he shows his admiration and defence of the valuable virtues of knighthood, represented by the characters of the Mayorazgo and his son Cara de Plata.notPeerReviewe

La onomatopeya y su proceso de lexicalización: notas para un estudio

Onomatopeya, un fenómeno no muy bien definido es el tema de este trabajo en el que se realiza una breve aproximación en dos dispositivos diferentes: A) Por medio de una lista que va desde la representación gráfica de un sonido, tal y como aparece en los cómics, a las palabras utilizadas en las dos funciones principales, el sustantivo y el verbo. B) Con el fin de verificar que el dispositivo en un contexto, incluyo algunos artículos de expresiones en las que están presentes las onomatopeyas tomadas de "Ulises" de James Joyce y sus correspondientes versiones realizadas por José M ª Valverde en su traducción de la novela.Onomatopoeia, a not well-defined phenomenon is the topic of this paper in which a brief approach is carried out in two different devices: A) By means of a list going from the graphic representation of a sound, such as it appears in the comics, to actual words in the two main functions, the noun and the verb. Landslide motion assessment including rate effects and thermal interactions: revisiting the Canelles landslide

The re-activation of a large (40 Mm3) landslide on the valley slopes of a reservoir motivated a research initiative to estimate the risk of a fast-sliding mass moving into the reservoir. A previous simplified analysis had suggested that a joint consideration of strain rate effects on friction and thermal pressurization phenomena in the sliding surface could provide a rational approach to answer the question raised. The paper describes first the capability of strain rate effects on friction to reproduce long-term creeping records of two real cases. The joint and coupled phenomena of creeping motion and thermal pressurization in shearing bands was incorporated into a material point method computational technique for hydromechanical analysis of porous materials. A representative cross section of the Canelles landslide was then analysed, profiting from previous finite element investigations of the landslide. It was found that a rapid rate of landslide acceleration could be a possibility under extreme external actions. However, it was also found that a moderate strain rate effect on the basal residual friction angle could create conditions that avoid the triggering of a fast motion.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

Las Atarazanas de Sevilla fueron el principal arsenal donde se construían y guardaban las galeras del rey de Castilla. Las embarcaciones que de allí salían participaron activamente en los conflictos contra los musulmanes en el Estrecho de Gibraltar, así como en las contiendas internas europeas como la Guerra de los Cien Años. En este artículo se publica por primera vez una lista de los responsables del arsenal y se indican cuáles fueron sus funciones y sus relaciones con otros cargos, que también tenían responsabilidades en la marina de CastillaThe Atarazanas of Seville constituted the main arsenal where the galleys of the kings of Castile were built and stored. Those ships participated actively in the disputes that took place with Moslem at the Straits of Gibraltar, together with those internal European struggles such as the Hundred Years’ War. In the present manuscript a list with the persons in charge of the arsenal is published for the first time. Furthermore, their works, assignments and interrelationships with other persons with different responsibilities in the Castile navy are described

Funciones del nombre en la configuración del personaje : un estudio comparativo en la literatura contemporánea de expresión española e inglesa (I)

The name of the character has frequently been carfully selected by the writers of fiction since they consider it to be an essential element to delimit its personality either by revealing it or by concealing it. If that is a feature present throughout the different periods, it is most evident in contemporary narrative texts. The importance of the name (never -innocent- according to Kristeva) made us try to carry out an analysis of a number of items in recent literature belonging to the Spanish and English texts on both sides of the Atlantic to outline some of tehe functions of this figure in the configuration of the characters or actantsA menudo, el nombre de un personaje es seleccionado con mucho cuidado por los autores de la ficción, ya que se considera un elemento esencial para determinar su personalidad (ya sea mostrándolo u ocultándolo). No solo ha sido una característica presente en las diferentes eras y periodos literarios, sino que en los textos narrativos contemporáneos se ha convertido en una herramienta de uso más que evidente. La importancia del nombre (según Kristeva, nunca de manera inocente) nos ha hecho intentar realizar un análisis de un conjunto de elementos presentes en la literatura reciente, concretamente en los idiomas español e inglés empleados a ambos lados del Atlántico, para determinar algunas de las funciones más importantes de esta figura en la presentación y creación de los personajes y actantes
