„Ihr seid krank!“ - „Ihr seid schon jetzt alle Gewinner!“

Neulich, nachts beim Zappen, stieß ich zufällig auf eine Show, die mich zuerst ein wenig ungläubig staunen ließ, dann aber sofort fesselte: Es war eine Art „Deutschland sucht den Superstar“-Show, die mich, anders als die gewohnten langweiligen, aalglatten, aber offenbar populären Shows, nach der ersten Verblüffung vollkommen faszinierte. Alle Show-Kandidaten sind geistig Behinderte, die, gemeinsam mit Christoph Schlingensief, voll Begeisterung, Engagement und mit sichtlich größtem Vergnügen eine Superstar-Show inszenierten, samt Jury, diskutierendem Presseclub, politischem Streitgespräch und Tonstudio – in jeweils passender Kostümierung. Ich muss zugeben, dass ich bei dieser Sendung einen Lernprozess durchmachte, wofür ich nun Schlingensief und den geistig behinderten Superstar-Aspiranten dankbar bin

Making your spring break sustainable: Can tourism be a driver for positive environmental change?

The Riviera Maya has undergone rapid development in the last few decades due to increased demand for tourism, putting pressure on surrounding ecosystems and cultural sites. As demand for tourism shows no signs of decreasing, there is an ever-increasing need for effective management solutions. The town of Puerto Morelos is striving to forward sustainable tourism based on its natural and cultural assets. As a new municipality, it has the chance to shape policy from a relatively blank canvas. This study involved collecting data about the different perspectives of key stakeholders through qualitative interviews and surveys to understand if the views of policymakers, NGOs, tourists, etc., were currently in line with one another, as well as with a sustainable management framework. Findings indicate that there are currently significant barriers to enacting sustainability measures in tourism. There is a significant disconnect between policymakers and communities that typically administrate protected areas, resulting in mismanagement. Results also show that tourists highly value socially and ecologically responsible tourism but are not currently acting on these values. Manejo Cultural A.C. developed the initiative ‘Archaeologists Without Borders’ to help build effective public/private partnerships among key stakeholders in the community to overcome some of the obstacles of mismanagement and to help these new tourist ventures better market themselves as socially and ecologically responsible. Public/private partnerships should be further explored as a model of sustainable tourism, as they do not rely on top-down regulation and give community members more input in decision-making processes. La Riviera Maya ha experimentado un rápido desarrollo en las últimas décadas debido a una mayor demanda de turismo, ejerciendo presión sobre los ecosistemas circundantes y los sitios culturales. Dado que la demanda de turismo no muestra signos de disminución, existe una necesidad cada vez mayor de soluciones de gestión eficaces. El municipio de Puerto Morelos se esfuerza por impulsar un turismo sustentable basado en sus bienes naturales y culturales. Como municipio nuevo, tiene la oportunidad de dar forma a la política a partir de un lienzo relativamente en blanco. Este estudio involucró la recopilación de datos sobre las diferentes perspectivas de las partes interesadas clave a través de entrevistas cualitativas y encuestas para comprender si las opiniones de los encargados de formular políticas, las ONG, los turistas, etc., estaban actualmente en línea entre sí, así como con un marco de gestión sostenible. Los hallazgos indican que actualmente existen barreras significativas para promulgar medidas de sostenibilidad en el turismo. Existe una desconexión significativa entre los formuladores de políticas y las comunidades que normalmente administran las áreas protegidas, lo que resulta en una mala gestión. Los resultados también muestran que los turistas valoran mucho el turismo social y ecológicamente responsable, pero actualmente no actúan de acuerdo con estos valores. Cultural Management A.C. desarrolló la iniciativa \u27Arqueólogos sin Fronteras\u27 para ayudar a construir alianzas públicas/privadas efectivas entre las partes interesadas clave de la comunidad para superar algunos de los obstáculos de la mala gestión y ayudar a estas nuevas empresas turísticas a promocionarse mejor como social y ecológicamente responsables. Las asociaciones públicas/privadas deben explorarse más a fondo como un modelo de turismo sostenible, ya que no se basan en una regulación de arriba hacia abajo y brindan a los miembros de la comunidad más aportes en los procesos de toma de decisiones.
