Virtual V1sion: A Collaborative Coding Project

    Get PDF
Virtual V1sion is a new idea for fostering modeling collaborations and data sharing. While still in its infancy, the ultimate goal is a website that hosts repositories for (1) interchangeable model elements, (2) datasets that can be fit/predicted by those models, and (3) educational modules that explain the background for both the models and the datasets. The scope of the modeling is limited to predictions of V1 responses, although not all computations represented by model elements in Virtual V1sion are required to be V1-intrinsic: a goal of the project is to provide a framework in which predictions for modulation by cortico-cortical projections (i.e., feedback) can be tested. The basic framework is an array of channels (neurons), mapped either to image space or to cortex space (via log-polar transform), with user-specified tuning (e.g., oriented vs. non-oriented, color-selective or not, simple or complex) and user-specified interactions (e.g., normalization or facilitation by selective or non-selective local pooling or long-range signals). Thus, the model predicts either behavioral responses (sensitivity/selectivity in channel most sensitive to stimulus) or electrophysiology data (diverse responses in local population) or neuroimaging data (pattern of aggregate response, with user-selected weighting and blurring, mapped to cortical hemodynamic responses or scalp potentials)

Proyecto de Graduación (Licenciatura en Ingeniería en Construcción) Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica. Escuela de Ingeniería en Construcción, 2008.KIREBE´s company was presenting problems for the deficient managing of control of costs that was carried out in its constructive projects; that’s because, the practice directed was realized here, and look for deficiencies that this process had and to give them a solution. Part of this labour, was investigate on the procedures used by each of the departments and principally in circumstances that were involving the Cost department. As well as also, explore on the way of executing that the department of costs had at the moment. Principally, problems like mistake of instructives, programming of work, communication and the storage of information of requisitions, modifications and unforeseen situations, were found during the realized research and it was not allowing to conclude on the advance that project had. Therefore, by information found, it was possible to develop a new procedure of control of costs and an application computacional that was facilitating the obtaining of information; and in a consecutive way, they were serving for the posterior analysis on the advance of the project. A suitable mechanism of control of costs adjusted to the way of working of the company, with communication and teamwork, is possible to achieve the success of the project and in consequence the company.Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica. Parents and the State: Joining Forces to Report Incest and Support Its Victims

    Get PDF
As many as 60,000 to 100,000 children each year become victims of child sexual abuse in this country, according to some estimates. These children typically suffer long-lasting effects of the abuse. This Note, in focusing on (step)father-daughter incest, looks at the predominance of males as perpetrators, daughters as victims, and mothers as non-abusers. The Note examines the dynamics within incestuous families and the characteristics common to each member in these families. It particularly considers the position of mothers in these families, who often are subservient to and financially dependent on the incest perpetrator. This Note then discusses how these mothers\u27 position often precludes them from protecting their daughters. This Note concludes, however, that mothers, armed with comprehensive and adequate support from the state, can be in the best position to protect their children from continuing abuse
