MBsums - a Mathematica package for the representation of Mellin-Barnes integrals by multiple sums

Feynman integrals may be represented by the Mathematica packages AMBRE and MB as multiple Mellin-Barnes integrals. With the Mathematica package MBsums these Mellin-Barnes integrals are transformed into multiple sums.Comment: Part of a talk presented by J. New Physics and Neutrino Oscillation

Description of neutrino oscillation in the case of Non-Standard neutrino Interaction (NSI) is briefly presented. The NSI causes the entanglement between internal degrees of freedom of neutrinos (mass, spin, flavour) and other accompanying particles in the production and detection processes. In such case neutrinos are mostly in the mixed states. Role of the density matrix in description of neutrino oscillation process is shortly explained.Comment: 3 pages. The emergence and fate of horizontally acquired genes in Escherichia coli

Bacterial species, and even strains within species, can vary greatly in their gene contents and metabolic capabilities. We examine the evolution of this diversity by assessing the distribution and ancestry of each gene in 13 sequenced isolates of Escherichia coli and Shigella. We focus on the emergence and demise of two specific classes of genes, ORFans (genes with no homologs in present databases) and HOPs (genes with distant homologs), since these genes, in contrast to most conserved ancestral sequences, are known to be a major source of the novel features in each strain. We find that the rates of gain and loss of these genes vary greatly among strains as well as through time, and that ORFans and HOPs show very different behavior with respect to their emergence and demise. Although HOPs, which mostly represent gene acquisitions from other bacteria, originate more frequently, ORFans are much more likely to persist. This difference suggests that many adaptive traits are conferred by completely novel genes that do not originate in other bacterial genomes. With respect to the demise of these acquired genes, we find that strains of Shigella lose genes, both by disruption events and by complete removal, at accelerated rates

Physics Beyond Standard Model in Neutron Beta Decay

Limits from neutron beta decay on parameters describing physics beyond the Standard Model are presented. New Physics is described by the most general Lorentz invariant effective Hamiltonian involving vector, scalar and tensor operators and Standard Model fields only. Two-parameter fits to the decay parameters measured in free neutron beta decay have been done, in some cases indicating rather big dependence of the results on g_A/g_V ratio of nucleon form factors at zero four-momentum transfer.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures, presented at the XXXV International Conference of Theoretical Physics "Matter to the Deepest 2011", Ustron, Poland, September 12-18, 201

Neutrino oscillations beyond the Standard Model in the future beta-beam experiments

In the present work we study the possible effects of physics beyond the standard Model in future neutrino oscillation experiments, where these leptons will be produced in beta decays of accelerated radioactive ions — the so-called beta-beam. Therefore, first we set the limits on the parameters describing new scalar, vector and tensor currents. Then, we use the statistical operator to describe the state of antineutrinos produced in the Fermi and Gamow-Teller nuclear beta decays as such state will be mixed in general. Next, we consider the antineutrinos oscillations in the vacuum and their detection through quasielastic scattering on free protons. Finally, we give a numerical estimate of the possible size of the influence of exotic vector currents on the number of detected antineutrinos, produced in helium-6 decays

O potrzebie społecznego dialogu. Refleksja nad listem społecznym Konferencji Episkopatu Polski

The Church as an institution, but also a community of believers, is a part of a society. Thus, She is present in the space of processes and changes taking place in a society. A society is extended in tension between conflict and harmony. In that context, the Episcopal Conference of Poland reflected on the current social issues in the Polish society in a form of a letter. It is focused on the necessity of common effort in favour of dialogue and order and in the face of existing destructive phenomena. The letter has become a perspective for considerations on elements of social life like social mission of the Church, conflict, solidarity, the truth, dialogue. Discussing particular questions draws from the Tradition and the teaching of the Church Magisterium. The undertaken reflection is an attempt to argue for social dialogue which is necessary, especially in more and more pluralistic and at the same time full of tensions society. Genuine dialogue includes being directed to an opponent, respect, and striving for solutions in the perspective of searching the truth and taking into account human dignity. Rzeczywisty dialog zawiera w sobie skierowanie na oponenta, szacunek i dążenie do rozwiązań w perspektywie poszukiwania prawdy i z uwzględnieniem ludzkiej godności

SPECIFIC INFLUENCE OF BIOMASS ON THE DESULPHURISATION PROCESS IN COMBUSTION OF BROWN COAL AND BIOMASS MIXTURE IN FLUIDISED BED BOILER

Thesis is focused on specific aspects of the desulphurisation processes of fluidised- bed boilers. The original goal of the study was to analyse the influence of several kinds of biomass to the quality of the desulphurisation process in combustion of the mixture of brown coal, biomass and limestone in fluidised-bed boilers

Recognizing the pseudogenes in bacterial genomes

Pseudogenes are now known to be a regular feature of bacterial genomes and are found in particularly high numbers within the genomes of recently emerged bacterial pathogens. As most pseudogenes are recognized by sequence alignments, we use newly available genomic sequences to identify the pseudogenes in 11 genomes from 4 bacterial genera, each of which contains at least 1 human pathogen. The numbers of pseudogenes range from 27 in Staphylococcus aureus MW2 to 337 in Yersinia pestis CO92 (e.g. 1–8% of the annotated genes in the genome). Most pseudogenes are formed by small frameshifting indels, but because stop codons are A + T-rich, the two low-G + C Gram-positive taxa (Streptococcus and Staphylococcus) have relatively high fractions of pseudogenes generated by nonsense mutations when compared with more G + C-rich genomes. Over half of the pseudogenes are produced from genes whose original functions were annotated as ‘hypothetical’ or ‘unknown’; however, several broadly distributed genes involved in nucleotide processing, repair or replication have become pseudogenes in one of the sequenced Vibrio vulnificus genomes. Although many of our comparisons involved closely related strains with broadly overlapping gene inventories, each genome contains a largely unique set of pseudogenes, suggesting that pseudogenes are formed and eliminated relatively rapidly from most bacterial genomes
