    Support for participation in electronic paper prototyping

    In this paper, we examine a range of tools for early prototyping of interactive systems that might be described as enabling 'electronic paper prototyping'. We then introduce Gabbeh, a prototype that we are developing to re-enable participatory design when using such tools. Paper-prototyping is an established approach to the creation of early prototypes in the participatory design of computer systems. Recent years have seen the rapid development of new interaction devices in which a display screen is combined with pen-based input to allow users to create sketches or hand-written notes in an interaction that is similar to writing with a pen on paper. Research with such devices has shown how this capability can be used to rapidly create simple prototypes of interactive systems such as websites. However, previous systems have not considered how end-users and other stakeholders could contribute to design dialogues around such prototypes.</p

    In this model one-dimensional microtubule is fixed at one of the two and simulated while the opposite end is allowed for growing in random situation. By this study at each step one tubulin has been added to the length for growing microtubule length. Computationally this can be done through generating a uniform random number between (0, 1). Microtubules are demonstrated as straight macromolecules consist of the linear chains of tubulin subunits in the length. QM/MM simulation has been applied to study dynamic instability of the microtubule length. It has been calculated a correct dimension around 10-6 meter of microtubules length consist of around 1650 tubulin dimers.&nbsp; Microtubule growth rate is related to the soluble tubulin dimer concentration and for all results shown here, simulation of any single condition was run 5–10 times.En este modelo, los microtúbulos unidimensionales se fijan en uno de los dos y se simulan mientras se permite que el extremo opuesto crezca en una situación aleatoria. En este estudio, en cada paso, se ha agregado una tubulina a la longitud para aumentar la longitud de los microtúbulos. Computacionalmente, esto se puede hacer generando un número aleatorio uniforme entre (0, 1). Los microtúbulos se demuestran como macromoléculas rectas que consisten en cadenas lineales de subunidades de tubulina en la longitud. La simulación QM / MM se ha aplicado para estudiar la inestabilidad dinámica de la longitud de los microtúbulos. Se ha calculado una dimensión correcta de alrededor de 10-6 metros de longitud de microtúbulos consiste en alrededor de 1650 dímeros de tubulina. La tasa de crecimiento de los microtúbulos está relacionada con la concentración de dímero de tubulina soluble y para todos los resultados mostrados aquí, la simulación de cualquier condición individual se realizó de 5 a 10 veces

    The Sudden Death of a Pregnant Woman With Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy Following a Legal Abortion: A Case Report

    Background: Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TCM) is characterized by left ventricular dysfunction and apical ballooning due to physical or mental stress in the absence of coronary artery disease. This transient heart disorder is rare in pregnancy. It may affect women of reproductive age.Case Presentation: The case was a 38-year-old woman in the first trimester of pregnancy with a history of TCM diagnosis one year ago, admitted to the hospital for a legal abortion. At the time of hospitalization, echo cardiography, echo cardiography, and clinical tests results were normal; however, due to stressful factors, such as the cancellation of the dilation &amp; curettage (D&amp;C) procedure, despite being transferred to the operating room (due to the absence of a gynecologist), receiving misoprostol for two consecutive days, the prolongation of surgery time, as well as the absence of a psychiatrist to reduce stress during the operation, suffered from recurrent TCM and eventually expired. In the autopsy, the cause of death was a massive pulmonary embolism.Conclusion: In pregnant women, there is a possibility of TCM recurrence due to changes in hormonal levels and emotional and physical stress caused by pregnancy. Therefore, when performing a surgical procedure such as D&amp;C, a team consisting of gynecologists, cardiologists, and psychiatrists should be present to avoid dangerous complications such as sudden death

    Electric utility planning methods for the design of one shot stability controls

    Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI)Reliability of the wide-area power system is becoming a greater concern as the power grid is growing. Delivering electric power from the most economical source through fewest and shortest transmission lines to customers frequently increases the stress on the system and prevents it from maintaining its stability. Events like loss of transmission equipment and phase to ground faults can force the system to cross its stability limits by causing the generators to lose their synchronism. Therefore, a helpful solution is detection of these dynamic events and prediction of instability. Decision Trees (DTs) were used as a pattern recognition tool in this thesis. Based on training data, DT generated rules for detecting event, predicting loss of synchronism, and selecting stabilizing control. To evaluate the accuracy of these rules, they were applied to testing data sets. To train DTs of this thesis, direct system measurements like generator rotor angles and bus voltage angles as well as calculated indices such as the rate of change of bus angles, the Integral Square Bus Angle (ISBA) and the gradient of ISBA were used. The initial method of this thesis included a response based DT only for instability prediction. In this method, time and location of the events were unknown and the one shot control was applied when the instability was predicted. The control applied was in the form of fast power changes on four different buses. Further, an event detection DT was combined with the instability prediction such that the data samples of each case was checked with event detection DT rules. In cases that an event was detected, control was applied upon prediction of instability. Later in the research, it was investigated that different control cases could behave differently in terms of the number of cases they stabilize. Therefore, a third DT was trained to select between two different control cases to improve the effectiveness of the methodology. It was learned through internship at Midwest Independent Transmission Operators (MISO) that post-event steady-state analysis is necessary for better understanding the effect of the faults on the power system.     An efficient algorithm for joint estimation of differential time delays and frequency offsets

    Journal ArticleABSTRACT This paper introduces an efficient algorithm that jointly estimates differential time delays and frequency offsets between two signals. The approach is a two-step procedure. First, the differential frequency offsets are estimated from measurement of the autocorrelation functions of the received and transmitted signals. The time delays are estimated from estimates of the higher-order statistics of the two signals involved. The major advantage of the new approach is its remarkably reduced computational complexity over traditional approaches. The experimental resuits indicate that the algorithm performs better than the traditional methods in most cases of interest in spite of its reduced computational complexity

    Evaluation of the Effects of 660-nm and 810-nm Low-Level Diode Lasers on the Treatment of Dentin Hypersensitivity

    Introduction: Dentin hypersensitivity is a common oral problem that occurs as a short and sharp pain. There are many techniques to treat this condition, the latest of which is laser treatment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of two type of low-power diode lasers (660 nm and 810 nm) on dentin hypersensitivity in order to achieve an acceptable clinical application by adjusting the effective parameters.Materials and methods: In this randomized, double-blind clinical trial, sensitive teeth of 7 patients were divided into three groups with randomized matching method: group I, treated with 660-nm diode laser irradiation; group II, treated with diode laser 810-nm and group III, the control group. Irradiation parameters for 660-nm and 810-nm diode lasers were a power of 30 mW and 100 mW, respectively, in contact and continuous mode, perpendicular to tooth surface with a sweeping motion. Treatments were carried out in four sessions, at weekly intervals. Data obtained were analyzed with SPSS 22, using one-way ANOVA, repeated measures ANOVA and LSD (least significant difference) test. Significance level was considered as a=0.05.Results: There were no significant differences in VAS score changes between the two laser groups after the intervention in the first, second and third weeks compared to baseline (P&gt;0.05). These changes in the fourth week were significantly higher in the 810-nm laser group compared to the 660-nm laser group (P=0.04) and in the 660-nm laser group were more than the control group (P=0.02). Mean VAS scores at 1-week, 1-month and 2-month postoperative intervals were significantly lower in 810-nm laser group than 660-nm laser group and in the 660-nm laser group they were less than the control group (P&lt;0.001).Conclusion: The use of 660-nm and 810-nm diode lasers with a power of 30 and 100 mW, respectively, for 120 seconds was effective in reducing pain in patients with dentin hypersensitivity. However, the effect of 810-nm laser was more long lasting in reducing the dentin hypersensitivity than that of the 660-nm laser.
