Analytical model prediction and experimental investigation of nanoforming of Bulk Metallic Glass
High aspect ratio nanostructures have been successfully fabricated in supercooled Bulk Metallic Glass (BMG) by molding against patterned Silicon. Nanoforming allows for a high rate manufacturing of nanostructures. In past research, two theoretical models to analyze the nanoforming process were created. These models were combined and further developments were made. This model is used to predict the depth of fill for a trench feature at a particular location on the mold based on molding parameters specified. The effects of surface tension of the BMG were also considered. An experimental setup was constructed and experiments were performed in an attempt to investigate the highest achievable aspect ratio for a specified size feature and known molding parameters to compare with the theoretical model. While flow into the trench features did not occur, observations confirmed that the pressures at the centers of molds were higher than at the edges, which agrees with the theoretical model qualitatively
Geo-Taxonomy Service Development Summer Internship at the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, NYC
This report provides a detailed account of my internship experience with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN-OCHA) in New York, New York during the summer, autumn, and winter of 2016. The internship was completed at Two United Nations Plaza and remotely from Clark University under the supervision of UN-OCHA Information Management Programme Officer, Andrej Verity. While temporarily serving as an international civil servant, I had the unique opportunity to contribute my knowledge and skills to an intergovernmental organization that continuously aims to improve the nations of our world. Adhering to the requirements set forth by the M.S. GISDE program at Clark University, this report thoroughly describes my responsibilities as an intern and relates the opportunity to my career goals and academic history
Magnetic field dependence of the critical current in stacked Josephson junctions. Evidence for fluxon modes in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x mesas
Modulation of the critical current across layers, Ic(H), of stacked Josephson
junctions (SJJs) as a function of an applied magnetic field parallel to the
junction planes is studied theoretically and experimentally for different
junction lengths and coupling parameters. It is shown that the Ic(H) patterns
of long SJJs are very complicated without periodicity in H. This is due to
interaction between junctions in the stack. This, in turn, gives rise to the
existence of multiple quasi-equilibrium Josephson fluxon modes and submodes
which are different with respect to the symmetry of the phase and the fluxon
sequence in SJJs. The critical current of long SJJs is multiple valued and is
governed by switching between energetically close fluxon modes/submodes. Due to
this, the probability distribution of the critical current may become wide and
may consist of multiple maxima each representing a particular mode/submode.
Experimentally, multiple branched Ic(H) patterns and multiple maxima in the Ic
probability distribution were observed for Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x intrinsic SJJs,
which are in a good agreement with numerical simulations and support the idea
of having different quasi-equilibrium fluxon modes/submodes in intrinsic SJJs.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure
Stacked Josephson junction SQUID
Operation of a Superconducting Quantum Interference Device (SQUID) made of
stacked Josephson junctions is analyzed numerically for a variety of junction
parameters. Due to a magnetic coupling of junctions in the stack, such a SQUID
has certain advantages as compared to an uncoupled multi-junction SQUID.
Namely, metastability of current-flux modulation can be reduced and a
voltage-flux modulation can be improved if junctions in the stack are
phase-locked. Optimum operation of the SQUID is expected for moderately long,
strongly coupled stacked Josephson junctions. A possibility of making a stacked
Josephson junction SQUID based on intrinsic Josephson junctions in high-Tc
superconductor is discussed.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, presented at SQUID-2001 (Stenungsbaden September

This paper analyzes the Brazilian audiovisual market through intellectual property institutes to determine the legality of the qualification of entities for the collection and management of artists' rights. The research problem is the possibility of tacit repeal of article 13 of Law no. 6.533/78, which prohibits the assignment or promise of assignment of related rights, by Law no. 9.610 / 98, as well as the impact of this article on the collection and collective management of related rights of performers. This study was elaborated by the hypothetical-deductive method, through jurisprudential research and literature review. The conclusions of the work indicate that article 13 of Law no. 6.533 / 78 is still in force, but must be interpreted in light of the current copyright law, Law no. 9.610 / 98, and therefore it is understood that this concerns the amounts that the artist would be entitled to in return for each new use of his performance. Thus, it is concluded that the collective rights management entity of artists Interartis Brasil has legal backing in the Brazilian legal system to make the appropriate charges
Fan Culture in the American Hockey League
Knowing the fan culture of the American Hockey League will help understand what fans look for when choosing a favorite team. This information can be used to increase fan bases around the league. In order to conduct this research a survey was sent out to fans and non-fans of AHL teams. With the results collected it was found that fans favorite aspects of their favorite team’s culture is their team’s in game promotions. This data shows that in game promotions need to be a priority for American Hockey League teams, if they wish to build a better relationship with their fans as well as gain more fans
Atlases for Select Portland Metropolitan Watersheds
The primary purpose of this project is to promote planning on a watershed basis in the Portland Metropolitan area. We intend to support Metro\u27s Regional Planning Framework process by encouraging a stewardship ethic based on watershed considerations. Atlases characterizing several of Portland\u27s watersheds will provide specific information to three audiences: planners, community activists, and decision makers. The atlases will provide an information base upon which watershed management processes can be built
