Indexes of the foreign exchange value of the dollar

At the end of 1998, the staff of the Federal Reserve Board introduced a new set of indexes of the foreign exchange value of the U.S. dollar. The staff made the changeover, from indexes that had been used since the late 1970s, for two reasons. First, five of the ten currencies in the staff's previous main index of the dollar's exchange value were about to be replaced by a single new currency, the euro. Second, developments in international trade since the late 1970s called for a broadening of the scope of the staff's dollar indexes and a closer alignment of the currency weights with U.S. trade patterns. ; The author discusses several practical aspects of the design and implementation of the exchange rate indexes--the choice of index formula, the design of currency weights, and the selection of currencies. Ce travail présente une analyse de la destination, une récolte d’idées ainsi que le développement d’un parcours aventure urbain en vieille ville de Romont. Un entretien avec l’archiviste de la ville ainsi que l’analyse de documents ont permis d’avoir une vue d’ensemble du patrimoine historique tangible et intangible de la ville

Kunst & Design Museen Basel: eine Marketingkooperation im Museumstourismus

Kunst & Design Museen Basel ist eine in der Schweiz einzigartige Kooperation zwischen fünf Museen in Basel und Basel Tourismus. Ziel dieser Kooperation ist es, gemeinsam finanzierte Marketingaktivitäten vorzunehmen. Dabei werden Zielmärkte bearbeitet, zu denen die Museen ohne die touristischen Kanäle und das Fachwissen von Basel Tourismus keinen Zugang hätten. In erster Linie wird dabei der Kontakt zu Reiseveranstaltern auf Tourismus-Messen gesucht. Hintergrund für die Bildung der Museumskooperation bildet die Tatsache, dass Basel über fünf führende Museen im Bereich der bildenden Kunst und des Design verfügt. Es sind diese das Kunst-museum Basel, das Tinguely Museum, die Fondation Beyeler, das Vitra Design Museum und das Schaulager. Das positive Image, dass diese Museen ausstrahlen und deren qualitativ hochwertige Ausstellungspolitik bilden die Basis für die Kunst & Design Museen Basel und werden erfolgreich in die Kommunikation der Museumskooperation eingebunden. Der Museumstourismus hat ein grosses Potential im ohnehin boomenden Kulturtourismus. Er bildet einen Trend im Museumsmarketing. Basel als kulturtouristische Destination hat dieses Potential erkannt und hat bei der Gründung der Kunst & Design Museen Basel eine massgebliche Rolle übernommen. Die Museumskooperation wurde mit einer Einführungsphase von drei Jahren 2009 gegründet und wird bis zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt von allen beteiligten Partnern als erfolgreich bezeichnet

The Durbin-Watson Ratio under Infinite Variance Errors

This paper studies the properties of the von Neumann ratio for time series with infinite variance. The asymptotic theory is developed using recent results on the weak convergence of partial sums of time series with infinite variance to stable processes and of sample serial correlations to functions of stable variables. Our asymptotics cover the null of iid variates and general moving average (MA) alternatives. Regression residuals are also considered. In the static regression model the Durbin-Watson statistic has the same limit distribution as the von Neumann ratio under general conditions. However, the dynamic models, the results are more complex and more interesting. When the regressors have thicker tail probabilities than the errors we find that the Durbin-Watson and von Neumann ration asymptotics are the same

Influence of rate of loading on the tensile properties of normal alpha uranium

Forty t ensile tests were carried out on normal alpha uranium in order to determine the influence of the rate of loading and temperature on its tensile properties . These tests were conducted at eleven different temperatures in the temperature range from 25 1to 600°C for three constant loading rates (0 . 0017 min -l, 0 . 0130 min- , and 0. 0400 min -1) . The properties considered were tensile strength, per cent elongation (in 1. 5 in. gage length), percentage reduction in area, yield strength, and modulus of elasticity. All of these properties were more strongly affected by a change in temperature than they were by a change in rate of loading. Graphs showing data for each of the five properties vs temperature and also as a function of rate of loading are ·displayed to indicate specific effects.
