This work intends to show how the brasilian guitar idiomatism present in Paulo Bellinati’s accompaniments in the arrangements for the album Afro-sambas, recorded with the singer Monica Salmaso (1996) 2 . A design of a lunar regolith bag and bagging system is described. The bags of regolith are to be used for construction applications on the lunar surface. The machine is designed to be used in conjunction with the lunar SKITTER currently under development. The bags for this system are 1 cu ft volume and are made from a fiberglass composite weave. The machinery is constructed mostly from a boron/aluminum composite. The machine can fill 120 bags per hour and work for 8 hours a day. The man hours to machine hours ratio to operate the machine is .5/8

The medical discourse on military psychiatry and the psychological trauma of war: World War I to DSM-III

Using the professional journals of the mental health community this thesis discusses how the discourse on psychological trauma and the trauma of war developed within the psychiatric profession during the twentieth century. During WWI military psychiatrists attempted to master the dual responsibilities of treating and preventing war neuroses. Then, during and after WWII, the professional discourse acquired greater nuance when the mental health community sought to understand the chronic nature of some trauma-related neurotic conditions. The thesis concludes with the public and professional debates on the psychological trauma of war during and after the Vietnam War, which culminated in 1980 with the acceptance of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) by the mental health community as an official diagnostic category. Whereas some scholars argue that PTSD was a social construction of the post-Vietnam era, this thesis demonstrates that the theoretical foundations of the diagnosis developed long before American involvement in Vietnam

ABSTRACT Rachel J. Levandoski: “The Touchstone of Insanity:” Perceptions of the Psychological Trauma of War within the United States from 1861 TO 1918. (Under the Direction of Wayne Lee) This dissertation examines how American medical professionals and the lay public constructed parallel discourses on the psychological effects of war from the Civil War through World War I. I analyze the development of these concurrent debates within the pages of medical journals and wartime coverage in national news media in order to uncover whether Americans were able to construct a shared understanding of the role of war in the psychological breakdown of soldiers. Medical interest in combat-related psychological trauma expanded from tentative recognition during the Civil War to the full-scale mobilization of military psychiatry in response to WWI. This growth was due to evolving medical paradigms about the nature of mental illness and the role of trauma in the development of psychiatric disorders. Equally important was the emergence of a professional, unified mental health field. These changes between 1861 and 1918 created an environment on the eve of WWI where mental health experts were prepared to investigate the legitimacy of war-related mental breakdown. I conclude that the medical discourse which developed among American mental health practitioners during the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, and WWI influenced popular perceptions of the suffering of soldiers, but it did so without a cohesive effort by the psychiatric profession to educate the public. Absent the guidance of experts, the populace relied on the sensationalist reporting of journalists. This led the public to construct an image of war-related mental illness that was more severe than that current understanding within the medical community. Thus, while both professionals and non-professionals at the end of WWI accepted the broad premise that warfare could have a deleterious effect on the mind, there was no national consensus on the cause or characteristics of psychological breakdown in war. This inability to reach a shared understanding prevented the construction of an enduring disease identity derived from combat-related psychological trauma before, during, and after World War I. As a result, mental health professionals and the public had to constantly relearn about the psychological effects of war on the mind, limiting the ability of either to respond to the needs of soldiers and veterans.Doctor of Philosoph

Abstract: In this work we present a study of circles. Edentulism often appears related to aging, which negatively affects the quality of life of elderly patients. In this sense, the purpose of this work was to review the prosthetic options of oral rehabilitation using dental implants currently available for this age group. However, it is important to relate the systemic health conditions that accompany aging with surgical treatment and complications that may affect the survival of dental implants. The literature review includes an extensive article search available in the PubMed- Medline, Elsevier, Wiley Online Library, and Academic databases. The articles were selected based on the relevance of the articles, being the information complemented with the use of books and monographs. Dental rehabilitation with dental implants in elderly patients has many benefits, and a predictable therapy with high success rates is an option to be considered for this age group, however, the health condition should be meticulously evaluated
