This thesis fulfills the requirement for the strategic audit in MNGT 475H/RAIK 476. It provides in depth analysis of Cboe and its competitors, with particular attention given to comparing net income, market cap, and share price. Informed by this analysis, there is discussion of Cboe’s acquisition of BATS, which appears to have had the best impact on share price of any decision made by an exchange operator in the last 5 years. Finally, this thesis provides a strategy recommendation for Cboe moving forward

Debating a testosterone "sex gap"

Sex dimorphism of testosterone (T) in elite athletes was at the center of a recent case at the "Supreme Court of Sport", the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland, after teenage Indian sprinter Dutee Chand challenged a sports policy regulating competition eligibility of women with naturally high T. The idea of a "sex gap" in T is a cornerstone of this policy (1). Policymakers infer that men's higher T is the "one factor [that] makes a decisive difference" between men's and women's athletic performances (2) —so they claim that women with naturally high T unfairly enjoy a "massive androgenic advantage" over other women athletes (2). Yet there's an emerging scientific debate about whether the sex gap in T applies to elite athletes

Might this be a stereotype phrase of the defeated or even of those who wish to rewrite history or does it have a dose of reality in it? In any case when someone attempts to present a new fold of history or even to enrich one already existing with new findings, great attention is required. There are many reasons to do so and not only political ones. Needless mention the political motives behind some of the attempts to alter the historical charting of facts. So the skepticism arising from relevant attempts is naturally strong. At the same time relevant thinking should be stochastic and flexible in order to be able to distinguish the circumstances under which new rudiments are presented which could be interpreted in a different way, significantly changing what was known so far. These should be based always on appropriate documentation so that their validity is ensured

Designing an innovative educational toolbox to support the transition to new technologies

Our economies and societies are becoming more and more knowledge based which implies that increasing numbers of people need to be educated and trained on new subjects and processes. Thus, the reduction of the effort needed to design and prepare educational and training programmes that meet the needs of the society and the market is of paramount importance. To achieve this goal, first, we define a learning programme model so that programme designers can easily exchange and re-use programme structures and learning materials. The proposed model additionally enables easier creation of interdisciplinary programmes which is another need of today’s market. Second, we deploy a web-based tool that adopts this model towards facilitating the re-use of structures and materials. Third, to reduce the time required for the training actors to sense the market needs, we propose the establishment of an educational programme marketplace. All three endeavours have been validated in the energy transition sector and (positively) evaluated by experts during an international workshop

In this paper the concept of the “Geo-Economic Gravity System” will be discussed as a methodological tool in regard with the key issue of “regional efficiency”, as well as a modeling tool in the effort to face relevant socio-economic problems. As a case study, the fierce opposition between oriental and western-oriented political powers, other words neo-ottomans versus kemalists in the Turkish society, is being respectively examined. The Geo-economic Gravity Systems explain the socio-economic rifts, heading back to the 90’s and demonstrating the multiple and prevailing societal polarization. On its second part, however, this study exhibits that, in the aftermath of the R.T. Erdogan’s governments, despite that the political dichotomy lines remain, at least the severe economic disparities have been smoothed due to policies, incentives and infrastructure investments accomplished. The analysis of Turkey’s internal geo-economic trends offers notable insight into the mechanism controlling in general the regional socio-economic attractiveness and efficiency. Consequently, such an analysis can remarkably contribute in the research of the spatial dimension as a catalyst for emerging development opportunities in any country

Kiewit Drone Progress Tracking Application

Kiewit is one of the largest construction companies in the world and has long pushed the standards for innovation within the construction industry. Kiewit operates on an initiative to be a data-driven organization. Construction projects track progress data for a variety of reasons, none more important than meeting contractual obligations. Keeping clients in tune with the status of a given project not only gives them peace of mind but also correlates directly with revenue. For solar projects, quantity claiming is done by walking up and down rows of solar panels, posts, and torque tubes across the project site and manually entering the status data. The project goal was to create a secondary automated version of the manual quantity claiming process for construction progress tracking. The Kiewit Drone Progress Tracking application serves as a digital management system that supports tracking the progress of solar panel construction sites in a more streamlined way. It hosts a machine learning model that was built in-house. It predicts the progress of the construction site based on drone-captured geo-location tagged images called GeoTIFFs. The application hosts these GeoTIFFs and allows for the creation and display of labels that ultimately help train and run the machine learning model. The development of this application will increase the training data used to impact the accuracy of the AI model, as well as improve accessibility and efficiency for the current solution and provide the platform for expansion to other construction project types
