The paper discusses a concept of general meaning with reference to various relevant semantic and pragmatic theories. It includes references to Slavic axiological semantics (e.g. Krzeszowski (1997); Puzynina (1992)), Wierzbicka’s (e.g. 1980, 1987) atomic expressions and classical pragmatics theories, such as speech acts, Gricean theory of conversational implicature, politeness theory and and relevance theory

Analýza procesu zplyňování alternativního paliva (50% odpad, 50% plasty)

The paper presents analysis of alternative fuel gasification with use of flue gas as a gasifying agent. As a result of a process syngas with combustible components (CO, H2, CH4, CnHm) was obtained. Laboratory tests were carried out to determine usability of selected alternative fuel to low-temperature gasification process. Tests were conducted in a laboratory reactor allowing to gasify a fuel sample of appx. 1 g. The experimental stand enables recording of a sample weight loss and syngas composition. The process takes place for fuel samples of a constant weight and different granulation and with a set composition of flue gas used as a gasifying agent. The aim of the laboratory research was to determine the usability of RDF fuel for indirect co-firing in power boilers and to build a knowledge base for industrial-size process by defining the process parameters: kinetics (time for fuel to remain in the reactor), recommended fuel granulation and process temperature.Článek prezentuje analýzu zplyňování alternativního paliva s využitím spalin jako zplyňovacího prostředku.

Non-violence upbringing in the preventive system of the Reverend John Bosco

    Get PDF
In the article author describes a preventive system initiated by the Reverend John Bosco, who was an Italian priest who lived in the 19th century. His system absolutely rejected any type of corporal punishment, as it was thought to be an ineffective way of upbringing. In his pedagogical activity the Reverend John Bosco took care of desolated young boys whom he provided protection and education. Thanks to that many illiterate boys belonging to criminal groups were able to get a profession and could honestly work for themselves. The Reverend John Bosco tried to increase number of oratorios and schools and at the same time wanted to found a new friar congregation. He successfully established the Society of Salesians and from 150 years it runs many different social institutions, including the Salesianic educational centre in Różanystok. The main goal of the research made for the article is the diagnosis of the Salesianic educational centre in Różanystok in terms of cohesion of punishment and rewards to assumptions of preventive system. The research has been made with the use of the so-called monographic method. The author proves that in that specific institution no one uses corporal punishment, in fact the only form of punishing is lack of privileges. In the most difficult cases a pupil who causes problems that harms the whole group can be punished by transferring to another institution. The system of punishments and rewards characterized in the article may be an inspiration for pedagogical educators and teachers who use the methods described in their work.Uniwersytet w Białymstok

The article concerned raises the problem of operational and exploratory activities conducted by the services of a police nature. The main purpose of the article is to emphasize the lack of a legal definition of these activities, regulating only part of the known methods of them in acts, and partial control of an independent authority over their execution. The article gathers the available data on the use of operational control and the acquisition of telecommunications data in the tables.Šiame straipsnyje keliama operatyvinio tyrimo veiklos, kurią vykdo policijos tarnybos, problema.

Adolescent Females and Decisions about Sexual Health: A Qualitative Approach

Very little qualitative research has been done in the area of adolescent sexual health and decision-making. An array of national, state and local literature exists to show how dismal the statistics are in terms of teen pregnancy, infant mortality and sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV. But what is not understood is how adolescents make decisions related to their sexual health. Five low-income adolescent females who resided in inner-city Flint, Michigan, ages 15-17, obtained as a convenience sample from an area home care maternal support services population, were interviewed using a loosely structured set of predetermined questions to elicit information about sexual health and decision-making. Responses were audio-taped, transcribed and compiled into data analysis tables using a phenomenological approach. The following nine patterns and themes were identified: communication about sexual behavior, decision-making related to sexual behaviors, plans for future education, knowledge deficit related to sexual health in general, peer pressure related to sexual activity, religion and its role in decisions, self-esteem as identified by non-verbal communication, trusting sex partners, and values in relation to decision-making. Participants did not appear to know how to make informed decisions. They did not decide purposefully about their sexual health. It just happened. The results are an important basis for further research because healthcare providers need clearer information on components of adolescent decision-making about sexual health before meaningful education and intervention can occur.Master'sSchool of Health Professions and Studies: NursingUniversity of Michiganhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/117717/1/Kalisz.pd

Cross-correlation: A Contrast method for studying fetal cardiovascular time series

    Get PDF
Congenital cardiac malformations are a serious health concern affecting the development of the fetal cardiovascular system. Identification of a fetus with abnormalities early in pregnancy, 10-20 weeks gestation, could assist in clinical diagnosis and be a great asset in health care. This thesis is a continuation of, and works in concert with, other research efforts conducted at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) aimed at characterizing fetal cardiovascular health through applied signal processing. This thesis utilizes cross-correlation as a technique for analyzing the cyclic variations and assessing commonalities of individual parts of fetal umbilical artery time series data. These time series include heart rate variability, peak velocity variability, and mean velocity variability. Here, common frequency components of cross-correlated signals are evident and unique frequency components of an individual signal are attenuated. Specifically, the studies conducted herein contain analysis of two data types. A study of maternal breathing intact versus maternal stop breathing was performed. This study evaluates the cyclic variations associated with fetal umbilical artery data taken during maternal breathing and stop breathing states. Additionally, an analysis of a cross gestational data group was done. The cross gestational study is a cross sectional study containing three gestational ages (10-12, 13-16, 17-20 weeks). This study was done to analyze the commonalities and differences in fetal umbilical artery blood velocity variability data obtained during the different gestational periods. Frequency consistencies and differences were discovered in both studies and are discussed
