The research used is a quasi-experimental study that aims to determine whether there are differences in the effectiveness of the scientific approach and the problem-solving approach in problem-based learning in class IX students of SMP Negeri 3 Pangsid. The population in this study were all grade IX students of SMP Negeri 3 Pangsid, and the sample consisted of two classes, namely class IX.1 and class IX.2, as an experimental class. Based on data collection from learning outcomes, activities and responses of students show that the mathematics learning outcomes of students in the experimental class 1 are in the high category with a mean of 84.38, student activities in learning can be categorized well, while student responses tend to be positive towards this learning. So, it can be concluded that problem-based learning with the scientific approach is quite active. Student mathematics learning outcomes in experimental class 2 are in the high category with a mean of 79.58, student activity in learning is in right criteria, and student responses to this learning are positive. This shows that problem-based learning with a problem-solving approach is quite effective. Hypothesis testing at a significant level Ī± = 0.05 with the t-test showed a significant difference in effectiveness, in terms of learning outcomes between students who applied problem-based learning with a scientific approach and students who applied problem-based learning with problem-solving approaches

    The British Asian Option

Following the economic rationale of [7] and [8] we present a new class of Asian options where the holder enjoys the early exercise feature of American options whereupon his payoff (deliverable immediately) is the ā€˜best predictionā€™ of the European payoff under the hypothesis that the true drift of the stock price equals a contract drift. Inherent in this is a protection feature which is key to the British Asian option. Should the option holder believe the true drift of the stock price to be unfavourable (based upon the observed price movements) he can substitute the true drift with the contract drift and minimise his losses. The practical implications of this protection feature are most remarkable as not only is the option holder afforded a unique protection against unfavourable stock price movements (covering the ability to sell in a liquid market completely endogenously) but also when the stock price movements are favourable he will generally receive high returns. We derive a closed form expression for the arbitrage-free price in terms of the rational exercise boundary and show that the rational exercise boundary itself can be characterised as the unique solution to a nonlinear integral equation. Using these results we perform a financial analysis of the British Asian option that leads to the conclusions above and shows that with the contract drift properly selected the British Asian option becomes a very attractive alternative to the classic (European) Asian option.British Asian option; American Asian option; European Asian option; fixed/floating strike; arithmetic/geometric average; flexible Asian options; arbitrage-free price; rational exercise boundary; liquid/illiquid market; geometric Brownian motion; the Shiryaev process; optimal stopping, parabolic free-boundary problem; nonlinear integral equation; local time-space calculus

Following the economic rationale of [10] and [11] we present a new class of lookback options (by first studying the canonical 'Russian' variant) where the holder enjoys the early exercise feature of American options where upon his payoff (deliverable immediately) is the 'best prediction' of the European payoff under the hypothesis that the true drift of the stock price equals a contract drift. Inherent in this is a protection feature which is key to the British Russian option. Should the option holder believe the true drift of the stock price to be unfavourable (based upon the observed price movements) he can substitute the true drift with the contract drift and minimise his losses. The practical implications of this protection feature are most remarkable as not only is the option holder afforded a unique protection against unfavourable stock price movements (covering thea bility to sell in a liquid market completely endogenously) but also when the stock price movements are favourable he will generally receive high returns. We derive a closed form expression for the arbitrage-free price in terms of the rational exercise boundary and show that the rational exercise boundary itself can be characterised as the unique solution to a nonlinear integral equation. Using these results we perform a financial analysis of the British Russian option that leads to the conclusions above and shows that with the contract drift properly selected the British Russian option becomes a very attractive alternative to the classic European/American Russian option.

SNOMED CT standard ontology based on the ontology for general medical science

Background: Systematized Nomenclature of Medicineā€”Clinical Terms (SNOMED CT, hereafter abbreviated SCT) is acomprehensive medical terminology used for standardizing the storage, retrieval, and exchange of electronic healthdata. Some efforts have been made to capture the contents of SCT as Web Ontology Language (OWL), but theseefforts have been hampered by the size and complexity of SCT. Method: Our proposal here is to develop an upper-level ontology and to use it as the basis for defining the termsin SCT in a way that will support quality assurance of SCT, for example, by allowing consistency checks ofdefinitions and the identification and elimination of redundancies in the SCT vocabulary. Our proposed upper-levelSCT ontology (SCTO) is based on the Ontology for General Medical Science (OGMS). Results: The SCTO is implemented in OWL 2, to support automatic inference and consistency checking. Theapproach will allow integration of SCT data with data annotated using Open Biomedical Ontologies (OBO) Foundryontologies, since the use of OGMS will ensure consistency with the Basic Formal Ontology, which is the top-levelontology of the OBO Foundry. Currently, the SCTO contains 304 classes, 28 properties, 2400 axioms, and 1555annotations. It is publicly available through the bioportal athttp://bioportal.bioontology.org/ontologies/SCTO/. Conclusion: The resulting ontology can enhance the semantics of clinical decision support systems and semanticinteroperability among distributed electronic health records. In addition, the populated ontology can be used forthe automation of mobile health applications

THE HISTORICITY OF CHRISTMAS: AN ANALYTICAL VIEW

As important as the birth of Jesus is in Christianity, the Christian world has doubts about its historicity. The Gospels do not provide any authentic information about when Jesus was born, but Christianity insists that December 25 is the date of Jesus' birth. Therefore, the question remains whether Jesus was born on December 25 or is only a claim of Christianity. Moreover, Christmas is also celebrated to commemorate the birth of Jesus on the 25th of December, but its authenticity is as doubtful as the historicity of the birth of Christ. There is nothing in the teachings of Jesus that he commanded Christians to celebrate this day. In this article, the same primary point has been discussed whether Jesus was really born on December 25, the day that Christmas is celebrated as a memorial
