What’s “Next”? On the Future of Digital Entrepreneurship

    Get PDF
Digitalization is gaining speed, latest since the global pandemics, even for those industries which only observed it as a supplementary phenomenon to their physical business activities. Despite this ongoing phenomenon and the use of catchwords such as e-business or e-commerce in both academia and practice, there is still confusion when the discussion shifts to the sphere of digital entrepreneurship—especially when it comes to the “who” and “how” of the digital entrepreneurship. The aim of this chapter is to focus on digital entrepreneurship as an ongoing phenomenon in the digital economy. In this chapter, the authors first introduce background and rationale with respect to digitalization and digital entrepreneurship by using a thematic literature review of recent contributions coming from economics and management disciplines. Next, the authors present next-generation models of digital entrepreneurship, with which they specify three important components of digital entrepreneurship as a business model, customer base, and social networks. By doing so, the authors not only aim to answer the questions of who the digital entrepreneur is, and how he/she acts in an entrepreneurial way, but they also aim to provide a knowledge base of digital entrepreneurship for future endeavors, let them be practical or theoretical ones

    Get PDF
This research examines the customer engagement on social media platforms in the tourism industry and its effect on customer loyalty through the mediated effect of customer trust. Furthermore, the moderating role of product learning is investigated on the hypothesized relationships. Data was collected from guests in 5 stars hotels in Kyrenia region in Northern Cyprus. In this study, out of the 459 collected surveys, only 419 were analyzed due to missing or incomplete data. The analysis conducted here followed the two step approach for structure equations modelling. Firstly, a confirmato-ry factor analysis was appraised to prepare data for structural model. Then the structural model helped shape our direct hypothesis testing, before analyzing the mediating and moderating impacts. The data provided evidence to link customer interactions on social media with trust and loyalty (Hypotheses 1-3) while trust revealed a mediating effect between interaction and loyalty. Finally, product learning did have an empowering impact on the relationship between interaction and trust

Background/Aims: Earlier research has indicated a positive association between Celiac disease and some mental disorders in both adults and children. The aim of this study was to explore the diet compliance and depression and anxiety levels of pediatric celiac children and their families after a gluten-free diet. Materials and Methods: A total of 30 celiac pediatric patients (17 children [57%] and 13 adolescents [43%]) were enrolled in the study, and 20 healthy controls (11 children [55%] and 9 adolescents [45%]) were studied as controls. Depression was assessed with the Children's Depression Inventory (CDI) form, and anxiety was assessed with the Screen for Child Anxiety Related Disorders (SCARED) form. Diet compliance was measured with a diet compliance form, and the families were asked to complete the Beck Depression Measurement (BDI) form for depression and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory I-II (STAI-I and STAI-II) forms for anxiety. Results: There was no significant difference in depression and anxiety between pediatric celiac patients consuming a gluten-free diet and the healthy control group. We observed no difference in depression and anxiety in the Celiac CD group patients. Diet compliance was 73.3% in the study group. Conclusion: The depression and anxiety levels of pediatric celiac patients and their parents did not differ from those in the healthy group

The Effect of Internal Complaints Systems on Employee Retention and Turnover Intention: The Mediating Role of Organizational Justice.

    Get PDF
This study draws on exit, voice, and loyalty theory, a concept that has been used to examine the behaviour of customers after purchasing and to develop corresponding marketing defence systems that seek to retain customers. The internal complaint system (ICS) is considered the most prominent of these strategies. Studies related to understanding the impact of the ICS on employees are limited and primarily focused on how the ICS impacts organizational goals and customers. This study is concerned with understanding the impact of the ICS on the ability of the organization to retain its employees on the one hand and the extent of employees’ desire to leave the organization on the other hand by measuring organizational justice as a mediator. The population of this study includes employees engaged at the time of study in five-star hotels in Northern Cyprus. Partial least squares regression was used to analyse the study data. Results proved that there is a statistically significant relation between ICS on both employee retention and employees’ intention to leave through the mediating variable of organizational justice. Providing a highly efficient ICS is therefore recommended in order for organizations to achieve retention objectives for clients and employees alike

The relationship between perceived corporate reputation and employee’s positive word of mouth behavior: The mediation effect of trust to managers

    Get PDF
This study focuses on the relationship between perceived corporate reputation and employee’s positive word of mouth intentions with the mediating role of trust in the manager. In addition, the study examines the moderating effect of value congruence between perceived corporate reputation and positive word of mouth behavior. The descriptive approach is applied and to test the research model; a quantitative questionnaire-based survey is used. The survey data are collected from 562 employees across multiple private small and mediumsized enterprises and sectors operating in North Cyprus by using convenience sampling method. In order to test the conceptual framework partial least square (PLS), is used. Some empirical indicators are conducted by using PLS-SEM to examine the reliability and the validity of the study. On analyzing the result, it is observed that the trust in man-agers partially mediates the relationship between perceived corporate reputation and positive word of mouth behavior. The results proved that perceived positive corporate reputation encourages positive word of mouth intentions. The current study fills the gap by analyzing the combined impact of corporate reputation and trust in a manager from the employees' perspective. The results lead to the-oretical and managerial implications related to strategic management

Comparing Accuracy Performance of ELM, ARMA and ARMA-GARCH Model In Predicting Exchange Rate Return

GARCH type models and artificial intelligence models are frequently used in the modeling of financial time series returns. In this study, the performance of ARMA and ARMA-GARCH models was compared with ELM. Four error measurement criteria were used in the performance comparison. According to the findings, ELM models of Euro and GBP exchange rates returns are superior to the ARMA and ARMA-GARCH models. According to this result, it can be said that ELM, one of the artificial intelligence-based methods, is more suitable for estimating the exchange rate returns during the period covered

The Effect of Branding on Orientation and Coaching: the Mediating Role of Hotel Culture.

The Tourism industry in the Middle East has gone through a myriad of challenges in the last decade mostly attributed to the Arab Spring. The Arab Spring revolutions of 2010 in countries including Tunisia, Morocco, Syria, Libya, Egypt and Bahrain, were marred with protests and violence, sending the message that the nations involved were not safe places for visitors. The resulting insecurity restructured the region as susceptible and threatening. This led to a marked reduction in tourist arrivals and revenues, and as a consequence, job losses. Since then, lack of employment in the hospitality sector in Middle East region continues to be a big problem. This study aims to fill this gap by studying the theories of branding image and training, and as such, explore the concepts of branding, hotel culture, orientation and coaching among hotel employees in Northern Cyprus. The questionnaires for the study were distributed to the five-star hotels in Northern Cyprus. The PLS software was used in the analysis of the questionnaires and the study concluded that branding indeed affects hotel culture, coaching and orientation. The study also reached a number of recommendations including aligning the experiences of employees with brand promises, striving to adopt brand-specific leadership conducts, treating employees well and establishing formal systems

The role of simple elbow dislocations in cubitus valgus development in children

    Get PDF
We investigated the functional and radiological outcomes of conservatively treated simple traumatic elbow dislocations and subsequent incidence of cubitus valgus development in children. Eleven patients (one female, ten male; mean age 9.8 years, range seven to 12 years) who presented to our hospital with simple elbow dislocations and were conservatively treated between July 2008 and September 2010 were included in the study. All were posterolateral closed dislocations. None of the patients had accompanying elbow fractures. All patients had pre- and postoperative radiographic examinations. The carrying angle of the involved elbow was measured and compared to the contralateral non-injured elbow during follow-up. The incidence and severity of cubitus valgus development was assessed. The functional and clinical outcomes were evaluated using the Mayo Elbow Performance Scale. The mean monitoring period was 24.3 months (range 19-30 months). All patients had satisfactory good and excellent results (85-100 points; mean 96.8 points) according to the Mayo Elbow Performance Scale. The final average elbow flexion was 137A degrees (range, 130-145A degrees) and average extension was 8.6A degrees (range 0-20A degrees) with full supination and pronation in traumatic elbow. Four patients (36.4 %) had an average increase (cubitus valgus) of 14.5A degrees (10-20A degrees) in carrying angle compared to the other elbow. While isolated traumatic dislocation of the elbow is uncommon among children, it can be successfully treated by urgent closed reduction, proper fixation of the elbow and appropriate timely rehabilitation. However, it should be considered that some patients may develop cubitus valgus deformity in a later period. Therefore, each patient with a simple traumatic elbow dislocation should be followed, and the parents should be informed of the potential for any deformity development

We assessed importance of primary hip hemiarthroplasty in treatment algorithm. And we have evaluated patients treated with primary hip hemiarthroplasty for unstable intertrochanteric hip fractures according to morbidity rates. MATERIAL and METHODS: In our clinic between 1995 and 2006; we selected 75 patients treated with primary hip hemiarthroplasty for intertrochanteric femur fracture (IFF). Mean follow-up was 44 months (20-82). Genders of patients were female 43% and male 32%. Numbers of affected hips were 45 right and 30 left. Patients were evaluated with Harris Hip Score. RESULTS: Harris Hip Score of patients; Excellent 4, Good 54, Fair 9 and Poor 8 results were obtained. Seventyeight percent excellent to good results obtained primary hip hemiarthroplasty for unstable intertrochanteric femur fracture patients over 70 years of age. CONCLUSION: There are advantages of primary hip hemiarthroplasty over osteosynthesis for patient's population over 70 years of age such as; short surgery time, no radiation exposure and immediate weight bearing. Primary hip hemiarthroplasty can be an alternative treatment for unstable intertrochanteric fractures in elderly patients so as to achieve earlier mobilization. It is also current and effective treatment option for most elderly
