Extensions of Simple Conceptual Graphs: the Complexity of Rules and Constraints

Simple conceptual graphs are considered as the kernel of most knowledge representation formalisms built upon Sowa's model. Reasoning in this model can be expressed by a graph homomorphism called projection, whose semantics is usually given in terms of positive, conjunctive, existential FOL. We present here a family of extensions of this model, based on rules and constraints, keeping graph homomorphism as the basic operation. We focus on the formal definitions of the different models obtained, including their operational semantics and relationships with FOL, and we analyze the decidability and complexity of the associated problems (consistency and deduction). As soon as rules are involved in reasonings, these problems are not decidable, but we exhibit a condition under which they fall in the polynomial hierarchy. These results extend and complete the ones already published by the authors. Moreover we systematically study the complexity of some particular cases obtained by restricting the form of constraints and/or rules

On the k-Boundedness for Existential Rules

The chase is a fundamental tool for existential rules. Several chase variants are known, which differ on how they handle redundancies possibly caused by the introduction of nulls. Given a chase variant, the halting problem takes as input a set of existential rules and asks if this set of rules ensures the termination of the chase for any factbase. It is well-known that this problem is undecidable for all known chase variants. The related problem of boundedness asks if a given set of existential rules is bounded, i.e., whether there is a predefined upper bound on the number of (breadth-first) steps of the chase, independently from any factbase. This problem is already undecidable in the specific case of datalog rules. However, knowing that a set of rules is bounded for some chase variant does not help much in practice if the bound is unknown. Hence, in this paper, we investigate the decidability of the k-boundedness problem, which asks whether a given set of rules is bounded by an integer k. We prove that k-boundedness is decidable for three chase variants, namely the oblivious, semi-oblivious and restricted chase.Comment: 20 pages, revised version of the paper published at RuleML+RR 201

Les cartes de població i franquesa regulen diversos aspectes d'índole jurídica, política i economica (o fiscal), relatives a les relacions entre els pobladors nouvinguts i els senyors. D'acord arnb I'aparent liberalitat de les clausules que contenen, la historiografia tradicional hi ha trobat un fil argumenta1 per fonamentar el caracter diferencial de la Catalunya Nova, la tesi segons la qual la conquesta dels nous territoris genera llibertats per als nous pobladors, territoris on d'altra banda s'hauria implantat un feudalisme de baixa intensitat, més atenuat, si es compara amb el que seguí vigent als llocs d'origen dels pobladors, a I'ambit de la Catalunya Vella. El gran captiveri de Menorca o la seva dependència financera del Principat. Estat de la qüestió

(CAT) Basant-se en la bibliografia disponible fins al moment, el propòsit d'aquest article és presentar un estat de la qüestió sobre la dependència financera contreta a Menorca a través de les emissions de deute públic a llarg termini («censals») a favor de creditors barcelonins, a imatge i semblança del que ha passat en Mallorca. Precisament, la revisió d'alguns pactes o concòrdies establertes amb els creditors en el segle XV li permet a l'autor establir una sèrie de comparacions amb el cas mallorquí, amb el qual presenta, encara que amb un cert desfasament cronològic, molts paral·lelismes.(ESP) Basándose en la bibliografía disponible hasta el momento, el propósito de este artículo es presentar un estado de la cuestión sobre la dependencia financiera contraída en Menorca a través de las emisiones de deuda pública a largo plazo («censals») a favor de acreedores barceloneses, a imagen y semejanza de lo ocurrido en Mallorca. Precisamente, la revisión de algunos pactos o concordias establecidas con los acreedores en el siglo XV le permite al autor establecer una serie de comparaciones con el caso mallorquín, con el cual presenta, aunque con un cierto desfase cronológico, muchos paralelismos.(EN) Based on the bibliography of works that is currently available, the purpose of this paper is to outline the situation vis-à-vis the state of financial dependency incurred in Minorca as a result of a long-term public debt (censals) that was formalized with creditors in Barcelona, in a process similar to one which occurred in Mallorca. By reviewing certain agreements or pacts made with creditors in the 15th century, the author makes a series of comparisons with the Mallorcan case, which shares many parallel features despite a certain chronological difference.Peer reviewe

L’endeutament a llarg termini del Papa Benet XII: radiografia dels primers creditors de censals de la cambra apostòlica

The long term debt of the collectorate of Aragon began with the issuance of almost one hundred «censals» that were engaged at the request of Pope Benedict XIII to pay the expenses of the Schism. This operation is completely unique, because no other Pope resorted to such a credit instrument, which was so wide spread in the Crown of Aragon. The author examines the initial phase of the process and reveals the social spectrum of the first investors, according to data collected in some accounting books. In recent years social technologies have broken into society: in personal relationships, in the private sector and the public sector. The use of social networks and digital tools by the public sector is being carried out in an incremental manner and for various purposes: communication, proximity, participation, transparency, open government, etc. The role of public employees in the use of these new tools is vital to achieve the objectives set, with training and training the main way to do it. This article focuses on the case study of the training center for civil servants in the Spanish region of Catalonia and the different training activities and strategies at different government employees from both the regional government of Catalonia and the Catalan local administrations, social networks and digital tools are used in corporate mode and meeting the objectives of the respective institutions.En los últimos años las tecnologías sociales han irrumpido en la sociedad: en las relaciones personales, en el sector privado y también en el sector público. El uso de las redes sociales y las herramientas digitales por parte del sector público se está llevando a cabo de un modo incrementalista y con diversas finalidades: comunicación, proximidad, participación, transparencia, gobierno abierto, etc. El papel de los empleados públicos en el uso de estas nuevas herramientas es vital para conseguir los objetivos fijados, siendo la capacitación y la formación la principal forma de hacerlo. Este artículo se centra en el estudio de caso del centro de formación de empleados públicos de la región española de Cataluña y en las diferentes estrategias formativas y capacitadoras a diferentes empleados públicos, tanto del gobierno regional de Cataluña como de las administraciones locales catalanas, para que las redes sociales y las herramientas digitales sean utilizadas de modo corporativo y cumpliendo los objetivos de las respectivas instituciones
