Mineralogical and Chemical Properties of Some Acid Sulfate Soils in Malaysia and Their Effects on the Growth Performance of Oil Palm Seedlings (Elaeis Ruineensis, Jacq)

Acid sulfate soils are charllcterized by a very low pH and a high aluminium concentration resulting from the chemical and biological oxidation of pyrite upon drainage. These soils have low agricultural potential due to high acidity and poor physical conditions, which adversely affect crop growth. Successful reclamation and management of acid sulfate soils would require an in-depth understanding of the soil's chemical and mineralogical properties. In this study, acid sulfate soils at Pulau Lumut, Kelang were mapped, characterized morphologically and chemically,and classified. Soil solutions were extracted on samples from soil pit,limed and oxidized soils and a pot experiment at the matrix suction of 10 kPa and the activities of the major cations and anions were calculated by Geochem. XRD and TGA were carried out to deter mine the mineralogy of the various soil horizons. The morphological features of the minerals in the soils were studied by TEM and SEM. A controlled pot experiment was conducted to assess the performance of oil palm seedlings grown on acid sulfate soils under freely drained and waterlogged conditions

Influence of Soil Parent Materials and Soil-Related Factors on the Growth and Yield of Rubber Under Felcra Scheme, Sendayan

The influence of two terrain classes (i.e. 5 to 25% and 25 to 50% slopes) on soils developed from two parent materials (i.e. granite and sedimentary rocks) on the growth and yield of rubber (Hevea brasiliensis) after four years of tapping was evaluated by using the field data, viz. girth and yield of rubber from 1980 to 1983, obtained from the Federal Land consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority (FELCRA) Scheme at Sendayan, Negri Sembilan. RUbber grown on sedimentary rock derived soil on steep slopes (25 to 50% slope) after four years of tapping showed significantly bigger girth than those grown on same soil on undulating to rolling terrain (5 to 25% slope). The mean monthly and yearly dry weight of rubber after four years of tapping was significantly higher in areas planted on sedimentary rock derived soils located on steep terrain. The growth of rubber as influenced by the interaction of parent material and slope over time was not significant during the same period of tapping. However3 the overall yield of rubber was significantly higher on soils derived from sedimentary rocks on steep terrain than on soils derived from granite on similar terrain

The diagnosis and treatment of dermatitis herpetiformis

Emiliano Antiga, Marzia Caproni Department of Surgery and Translational Medicine, Section of Dermatology, University of Florence, Florence, Italy Abstract: Dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) is an inflammatory cutaneous disease with a chronic relapsing course, pruritic polymorphic lesions, and typical histopathological and immunopathological findings. According to several evidences, DH is considered the specific cutaneous manifestation of celiac disease, and the most recent guidelines of celiac disease have stated that, in celiac patients with a proven DH, a duodenal biopsy is unnecessary for the diagnosis. In this review, the most recent data about the diagnosis and the management of DH have been reported and discussed. In particular, in patients with clinical and/or histopathological findings suggestive for DH, the finding of granular IgA deposits along the dermal–epidermal junction or at the papillary tips by direct immunofluorescence (DIF) assay, together with positive results for anti-tissue transglutaminase antibody testing, allows the diagnosis. Thereafter, a gluten-free diet should be started in association with drugs, such as dapsone, that are able to control the skin manifestations during the first phases of the diet. In conclusion, although DH is a rare autoimmune disease with specific immunopathological alterations at the skin level, its importance goes beyond the skin itself and may have a big impact on the general health status and the quality of life of the patients. Estudio sobre el sistema de financiación autonómico español

[ES] La cuestión de la financiación autonómica desde sus inicios en la transición siempre ha sido una cuestión relevante en cualquier debate . En la actualidad aún tiene más relevancia debido a la entrada de nuevos partidos políticos en instituciones autonómicas que sostienen que su Comunidad Autónoma esta infrafinanciada, deudas históricas, acusaciones de insolidaridad entre territorios y al planteamiento de un nuevo sistema territorial que dé más autonomía y mayor capacidad financiera a los mismos. Por todo ello, en el presente trabajo se tratará de dar respuestas realizando un estudio para conocer el sistema de financiación autonómica, como se ideó, sobre que principios se fundamenta, que tipos de regímenes existen en el sistema incluidos los casos particulares de Ceuta, Melilla y Canarias y las reformas que ha experimentado el sistema a lo largo de más treinta años. Análisis y propuestas de mejora del Departamento de RRHH del Hospital Clínico Universitario de Valencia

[ES] El presente Trabajo Final de Carrera (TFC) consiste en la realización de un análisis y de propuestas de mejora del departamento de Recursos Humanos del Hospital Clínico Universitario de Valencia. El trabajo presentado consta de cinco capítulos. El primero de ellos se titula Introducción y está formado por el presente resumen, el objeto del TFC , la justificación de las asignaturas de la carrera relacionadas con el trabajo, los objetivos que se persiguen y la metodología utilizada para llevarlo a cabo. El segundo capítulo es Antecedentes, donde trataremos de ver la historia del Hospital Clínico Universitario de Valencia, como se ha llevado a cabo la gestión de los Recursos Humanos en él en los últimos años, un esbozo de lo que sería su situación actual y por último el organigrama del Hospital. El tercer capítulo es Departamento de Recursos Humanos. Servicio de Personal. En el presente capítulo se realizará la descripción del servicio, se detallará el organigrama del departamento y por último se explicara las distintas unidades en las que se conforma el departamento. El cuarto capítulo es Propuestas de Mejora y en él, se expondrán ventajas e inconvenientes del departamento. En base a esto, se realizarán algunas propuestas para mejorar el servicio y en general el departamento. Este capítulo se realizará con la colaboración de jefes y trabajadores, ya que ellos saben cómo funciona y como se puede mejorar. En el quinto capítulo se expondrán las Conclusiones, considerando que el presente TFC puede servir al Departamento como una evaluación en donde los trabajadores, así como los jefes, podrán conocer mejor el trabajo que realizan. Con mi aportación y la de los propios trabajadores se pretende mejorar la calidad del servicio que resulta imprescindible para el buen funcionamiento del departamento de Recursos Humanos del Hospital Clínico.
