    The Utilization of the Q-Sort Methodology to Develop a Measure of Women\u27s Response to Intimate Partner Violence

    Q- sort methodology was used to detect underlying structures in 45 statements that reflect women’s attempts to make themselves feel better after incidents of abuse. Eight dichotomous categories were created as plausible descriptors of the 45 statements within the measure. Graduate and advance undergraduate students used the categories to sort the 45 statements. The individual sorts were input with PQMethod software. The Centroid method was used for data analysis. Three of the eight proposed categories were supported: perspective (i.e. the woman’s thought and perceptions regarding the abusive relationship), health behavior, and social relationship. Data analysis displayed that the 45 “feel better” items are able to be grouped into meaningful categories

    Pharmacy Security: A Survey on Pharmacists\u27 Perceptions and and Preparedness to Handle Prescription Fraud and Pharmacy Robbery

    Objective: To evaluate the perceptions of the community pharmacist with respect to prescription fraud and pharmacy robbery as well as their preparedness to handle such situations, with the intent to assess the need for a continuing education program on this topic. Methods: A survey was sent to licensed Indiana pharmacists using a listserv provided by Butler University. Only data from pharmacists currently practicing in the community (retail) setting was accepted and analyzed. The survey includes questions regarding prescription fraud, pharmacy robbery, security measures and demographics. Results: Of 1000 surveys sent, 80 surveys were returned, 47 met selection criteria, and 43 completed (he study. Of those who responded, 58% perceive fraud as a major problem in their area, whereas 18.6% perceive robbery a major problem. 25.6% rated their own preparedness for handling fraud as excellent or very good. 20.9% felt that their preparation was excellent or very good for robbery. The majority of respondents (88.3%) agreed that a continuing education course on the topic of security would be helpful. Conclusions: Results of the study indicate that pharmacists are concemed about security in the community pharmacy regardless of gender or work experience. Although most of those surveyed do not perceive robbery to be a major problem in their area, they are interested in further education on the topic of security

    Age Differences in Substance Use and Social Support among Recently Incarcerated Adult Females

    While men retain the highest rates of incarcerations, the female prison population has tripled in the last decade (Covington, 2007; Henderson, 1998). The goal of this study was to examine micro-level forces, such as social support, substance use, and childhood trauma, in a sample of 188 recently incarcerated women, aged 18-58. Using an ANOVA with ages grouped 18-29, 30-39, and 40-58, age differences in substance use were identified, with the 30-39 year old group reporting more alcohol and drug use than the 18-29 year old group. There were no age differences on social support or childhood trauma. Multiple regression analyses revealed that older age and less social support predicted more alcohol use and older age alone predicted drug use. These results illustrate a need for deeper exploration of these micro forces across the life course of incarcerated women and the need for age-specific programs with at-risk populations to address different use patterns

    A 20 MHz CMOS reorder buffer for a superscalar microprocessor

    Superscalar processors can achieve increased performance by issuing instructions out-of-order from the original sequential instruction stream. Implementing an out-of-order instruction issue policy requires a hardware mechanism to prevent incorrectly executed instructions from updating register values. A reorder buffer can be used to allow a superscalar processor to issue instructions out-of-order and maintain program correctness. This paper describes the design and implementation of a 20MHz CMOS reorder buffer for superscalar processors. The reorder buffer is designed to accept and retire two instructions per cycle. A full-custom layout in 1.2 micron has been implemented, measuring 1.1058 mm by 1.3542 mm
