A Cell-Specific Analysis Of Gene Expression In The Neural Crest Of Zebrafish.
This thesis presents a new approach to the rapid and systematic identification of genes expressed differentially between specific cell types. The approach is based upon the hybridization of amplified tissue or cell-specific complex cDNA probes to robotically arrayed cDNA libraries and the computer-assisted analysis ('electronic subtraction') of the resulting hybridization patterns.
This approach was applied to two populations of cultured zebrafish neural crest cells, as well as to tissue from ventral trunk neural tube. Sets of cDNA clones were assembled that putatively represent genes expressed in early-migrating trunk neural crest cells (390 clones), late-migrating trunk neural crest cells (422 clones), or both neural crest cell populations (292 clones), but not in ventral trunk neural tube.
The procedures and techniques used were tested for reproducibilty and initial conclusions are made about the feasibility and validity of the approach. A critical assessment of the techniques apphed suggests aspects of the approach which might be improved in its future application
The Post-Gelation Behaviour of the Coagulation Equation with Product Kernel
It is well known that solutions of the coagulation equation do not conserve
mass if the coagulation kernel grows too rapidly. The phenomenon whereby
conservation of mass breaks down in finite time is known as gelation and is
physically interpreted as being caused by the appearance of an infinite "gel"
or "superparticle". In this paper we discuss the post-gelation behaviour of
the coagulation equation with product kernel.

Absence of gelation and self-similar behavior for a coagulation-fragmentation equation
The dynamics of a coagulation-fragmentation equation with multiplicative coagulation kernel and critical singular fragmentation is studied. In contrast to the coagulation equation, it is proved that fragmentation prevents the occurrence of the gelation phenomenon and a mass-conserving solution is constructed. The large time behavior of this solution is shown to be described by a self-similar solution. In addition, the second moment is finite for positive times whatever its initial value. The proof relies on the Laplace transform which maps the original equation to a first-order nonlinear hyperbolic equation with a singular source term. A precise study of this equation is then performed with the method of characteristics
Long-Time Behaviour and Self-Similarity in a Coagulation Equation with Input of Monomers
For a coagulation equation with Becker-Doring type interactions and
time-independent monomer input we study the detailed long-time behaviour of
nonnegative solutions and prove the convergence to a self-similar function.Comment: 30 pages, 5 Figures, now published in Markov Processes and Related

Through an independent and intuitive artistic curation, this final work produces an exhibition of contemporary art with the pieces of 7 young artists from Barcelona. The project proposes an alternative model of exhibition to the traditional one, which places art in a flat in the Eixample district. The domesticity of the place plays an important role in the spectator’s experience, as well as the closeness and trust whith which the project has been faced. The goal is to drive art to new paths and open doors to the inexpierienced artists that are invisible because of the main art market trends, in other to share their work at the periphery of the institution. Understanding this territory as the ideal place for artistic creation, where art comes from love
On the integration of media education in the German early childhood education plans
Children are born into a profoundly mediatised world, in which (digital) media are ubiquitous from the very start. Early childhood education as well as parents have a responsibility to help kids to process first media experiences and prepare them to become confident and informed media users. From the 2000s on, the German federal states have started to formulate their guidelines for pre-school education in education plans (the so-called Bildungs- und Erziehungspläne), as to formalize the German daycare system. The aim of this paper is to analyse whether and how the federal states have integrated media and media education into their current education plans. We will show that the plans vary substantially regarding the scope and form of media education. While some plans address the subject in a detailed and diverse way, others cover the issue only briefly or not at all. In contrast to Friedrichs-Liesenkötter (2019), we suggest a methodological approach that focuses on content rather than form: Using Baacke’s four dimensions of media literacy, we have categorized the plans into four levels to illustrate the plans’ different depths of the integration of media literacy / media education. The study provides a basis for further empirical research into the influence of the education plans on the daily practices of German daycare institutions
Involving Parents in Early Childhood Media Education – but how? An Overview of Challenges and Enabling Factors
It is a widely accepted view that the parents or childrens’ guardians should be involved when aiming to improve the quality of media education in early childhood. So far, however, there is little knowledge about how the dialogue concerning media education between daycare centers and families should take shape. In order to address this question, a literature analysis was conducted, which was complemented by expert interviews. First of all, the considerable differences in parents’ media-related attitudes and practices are discussed, which should be taken into account in a successful dialogue between daycare centers and families. The challenges but also the stimulating factors with regard to the educational partnership are presented – both in general and with regard to the specific dialogue about media education. Critical or sceptical attitudes can cause children’s media use to be a vexing and sensitive topic between daycare centers and families. To counter concerns and fears, more informal and interactive exchange formats have proven effective in practice, promoting dialogue and providing a more accurate understanding of media education. However, the results require more differentiation, especially on how to raise awareness in the case of parents that are hard to reach and on how to support parents in media education at home
