Biomarkers have shown great promise over the past decade the process of drug development more effective and have become an integral part of diagnosis of diseases. Biosensors were integrated with biomarker detection and point-of-care detection for signal amplification, high specificity and sensitivity, rapid response time, low cost, simplicity and multi-analytical testing. In order to detect more sensitively, these particular biomarkers have been explored with the possibility of real-time measurements in order to develop simple and compact systems which can analyze complex specimens. Various biosensors including electrochemical biosensors have recently been developed based on disease-specific biomarkers in the diagnosis of cancer disease. The main objective of the book chapter is to review research with new materials/methods in electrochemical biosensing techniques to detection of breast cancer biomarkers and evaluating latest techniques for detection of important analytes in real samples. In this book chapter, the recent development of electrochemical biosensors of breast cancer biomarkers will be reviewed. Furthermore, recent and future trend application of breast cancer biomarkers will be discussed

Objective. This research, about the Pergamum system as a tool for helping decision process at the Central Library of UFPE, aimed to evaluate how the system operates within the decision making in acquisition, organization of information, administration and user support. It is an exploratory case study, with an universe of 20 librarians. Method. The method used was based on an exploratory approach using the questionnaire as a tool to collect data, processed by qualitative and quantitative analysis. Results. The results showed that the majority of respondents apply the information from Pergamum in supporting decision making and believe that the system supports all stages in the decision process, from the identification of problems to their possible solution. Some modules of Pergamum used to support decisions are: the search, reports and internet. The professionals consider the software interface friendly, feel satisfied, but they indicate points where the system must improve to support the activities. Conclusions. It was concluded that this research contributes to the literature of the area, as long as the information systems support the decision making processes of an information unit, improve the execution of activities, support the administrative solutions and increase the quality of services provided.Objetivo. Discharge Tube Design For Reciprocating Compressor – How To Do It Right The First Time And Quickly

    Get PDF
In order to remain competitive in compressors business by improving quality and reducing launching deadlines, the companies face everyday new challenges related to research and development of compressors. Thus, the application of numerical simulations becomes crucial to design success due to the possibility and viability of virtual models evaluations in most engineering areas. In addition to product optimization, these numerical tools are also capable of provide manufacturing solutions, propose assembly methods and evaluate target deviations due to geometric tolerances and material properties variability. This strategy significantly increases the probability of project success by avoiding redesigns and unanticipated problems during manufacturing and applications (design it right the first time). Furthermore, the union of Finite Element Method and Design for Six Sigma becomes an effective tool which, combined with powerful hardware and numerical resources, allows the development of designs each day more robust. Specifically in this article it will be presented some methods currently used in design of compressors discharge tubes based on finite element models, component robustness analysis, geometric deviations evaluation and even the knowledge about manufacturing, simulating machines and tools used to produce the tubes. The validation of numerical results with experimental data is critical to the credibility of the methodology used

The present study was aimed to the determination of the effect of storage on some biochemical characteristics (PAs content, POX activity and total protein content) of flower tissue of bird-of-paradise. Flowers were selected and labeled, avoiding any mechanical damage, and randomly distributed in recipients for two postharvest trials. In the first experiment, flowers were placed in recipients containing tap water and stored in a cold room, at 7.5 \ubaC and 90 % RH, for a period of 12 days. In experiment 2, flowers were stored in room temperature for a period of 6 days. For biochemical characteristics, samples (sepals, petals, stems and bracts) from experiment 1 were collected at 0, 4, 8 and 12 days, and at 0, 2, 4 and 6 days for experiment 2. Results showed that flower bracts, stored at 7.5 \ub0C, presented a lower content of PAs (Put and Spd), when compared to samples stored at room temperature. In both experiments, a high content of PAs (Spm) was observed in flower tissues in relation to Put and Spd. An increase of POX activity was observed in sepals stored in the cold, and was related to PAs degradation during senescence. No differences in total protein content were observed between the two treatments. The present study provides numeric results on changes in level of PAs, POX activity and total protein during postharvest of bird-of-paradise
