Optimal approximate fixed point results in locally convex spaces

Let CC be a convex subset of a locally convex space. We provide optimal approximate fixed point results for sequentially continuous maps f ⁣:CCˉf\colon C\to\bar{C}. First we prove that if f(C)f(C) is totally bounded, then it has an approximate fixed point net. Next, it is shown that if CC is bounded but not totally bounded, then there is a uniformly continuous map f ⁣:CCf\colon C\to C without approximate fixed point nets. We also exhibit an example of a sequentially continuous map defined on a compact convex set with no approximate fixed point sequence. In contrast, it is observed that every affine (not-necessarily continuous) self-mapping a bounded convex subset of a topological vector space has an approximate fixed point sequence. Moreover, it is constructed a affine sequentially continuous map from a compact convex set into itself without fixed points.Comment: 12 page

Spaces not containing 1\ell_1 have weak aproximate fixed point property

A nonempty closed convex bounded subset CC of a Banach space is said to have the weak approximate fixed point property if for every continuous map f:CCf:C\to C there is a sequence {xn}\{x_n\} in CC such that xnf(xn)x_n-f(x_n) converge weakly to 0. We prove in particular that CC has this property whenever it contains no sequence equivalent to the standard basis of 1\ell_1. As a byproduct we obtain a characterization of Banach spaces not containing 1\ell_1 in terms of the weak topology.Comment: 6 pages; the paper was reorganized a bi

Synthesis of Au-Cu/SBA(Ti) catalysts for photocatalytic applications

In this work, it has been synthesized several Au and Au-Cu alloy photocatalysts supported on two different mesoporous supports: a non-commercial SBA-15 and a post-synthesis TiO2 modified SBA-15 (TiSBA-15), with which a high dispersion of TiO2 species have been achieved maintaining the SBA-15 structure. In addition, it has also been obtained highly dispersed Au nanoparticles confined in SBA-15 pore channels. The photocatalysts have been preliminary tested in the preferential CO oxidation in a H2-rich stream (CO-PROX) at room temperature and atmospheric pressure under simulated solar light irradiation. In spite of the very low gold and copper loading (1.5 wt% and 0.5wt% respectively), the catalysts resulted active and selective in the low temperature photo-CO-PROX.Universidad de Málaga. Infrared imaging spectroscopy of skin cancer lesions

Skin cancer is a disease of the twenty-first century since, unfortunately, being tan is associated to be healthy and good looking. UV radiation produces one of the most aggressive kinds of skin cancer: melanoma; once the damage is done there is no other solution that a rapid and effective diagnosis. Clinical examination and biopsies have shown to be slow and costly in many ways, so the possibility of getting a non-invasive optical detection of skin melanomas became a hot topic in biophotonics. In this context, multispectral imaging systems have approached the problem, but none of them worked inside the infrared range. Hence, this work has been proposed as an interesting, long-term project to further investigate about the possibilities of infrared imaging spectroscopy for the early detection of skin cancer through the development of such a system based on an InGaAs camera
