Investigation of Zero Crossing Detection for First Return Stroke in Negative Cloud-to-Ground Lightning Flash
This paper aims to investigate the minimum threshold for zero crossing detection of the first return stroke in negative cloud-to-ground lightning flashes. The uncertainty for a minimum threshold to be set into a programmed software for an automatic zero crossing detection motivated the author to overcome the problem. The software was built-in MATLAB. The development of the software considered the important parameter of lightning strike from the preliminary breakdown stages until the first return strokes. A single station measurement was setup in Ayer Keroh, Malacca. 41 samples of duration of the zero crossing time were recorded by using Lecoy HDO4024 with 5 MS/s. The results showed that the minimum threshold for zero crossing detection was 40µs with 82.9% accuracy. In conclusion, the minimum threshold of zero crossing detection of the first return stroke in negative cloud-to-ground was determined
An Investigation of Organizational Culture, Workplace Partnership and its Supply Chain Role for Sustainable Employment Relations in Public Universities in Malaysia
The organizational culture is different to every businesses and company. It aims to provide employees with a guiding principle on the work and organization system and a sense of direction by achieving organizations aspirations. Thus, the purpose of this study is to investigate the organizational culture and workplace partnership for achieving sustainable employment relations at public universities in Malaysia. This study is designed using a qualitative approach through observation and interviews. This study reveals that a loose organizational culture and partnership arrangement existed between the Academic Joint Consultative Committees (JCC) management and vice versa. The finding established that the desire to move forward is being felt however still concerned with whom the authority in decision making. This research argues that the management will continue to make final decisions; thus will preserve its supremacy as the single authority in public universities in Malaysia. The result warrants some amendments toward the organizational culture and workplace partnership in preserving industrial harmony. This study recommends a new form of organizational culture and workplace partnership for sustainable employment relations for a better working environment. Keywords— organizational culture, workplace partnership, decision making, consultatio
A study on the adequacy of national forestry amend act 1993 on illegal logging and its enforcement in Malaysia / Ahmad Kamal Nazmi Kamarul Zafik …[et al.]
This research is carried out in order to investigate the reason behind Illegal Logging in Peninsular Malaysia. Our group would like to pinpoint what is exactly the weaknesses that enable illegal logging to occur in Malaysia so that actions can be taken to rectify the problems. We have to investigate whether the law on illegal logging as stipulated in the National Forestry Act 1993 is lacking or the enforcement of the law by the enforcer itself is ineffective. There are several sections in the National Forestry Act 1993 which are specifically dedicated for illegal logging and its punishment. As for the enforcement on illegal logging, there are several government agencies that have the jurisdiction to take actions on illegal logging, such as the State Forestry Department, Royal Police of Malaysia, Royal Customs of Malaysia and other agencies. After several months of scrutinizing almost hundreds of articles be it online or hard copy, and after conducting an interview with a Forestry Department's Officer of Selangor, we have arrived to several conclusions on illegal logging. We have found that the law relating to illegal logging is indeed adequate to deter criminals; however, we found that the problems are in the enforcement itself. The three main problems are the lack of co-operation between government agencies in fighting illegal logging, lack of monetary provision and manpower for the enforcer and lastly, bribery
Cloud-To-Ground Lightning Flashes Under The Influence Of Pollution In Malaysia And Some Countries
The effect of air pollution produced from world war, industrial activities and transportation clearly can change the
earth ecology system such as the atmospheric conditions. Base on few studies reported from by researcher in USA, Brazil,
Spain and South Korea researcher have proven that the pollution effect can enhance the activity of lightning. Those
information above motivate Advanced Multidisciplinary System Technology researcher in UTeM to report the cloud-to-ground
lightning flashes in Malaysia the influence of pollution. Particulate Matter (PM10) and Sulfur Dioxide (SO2)
concentration were used as gross indicator of Cloud Condensation Nuclei (CCN) and examined in relation to the urban
increase in CG lightning activity. PM10 concentration recorded in Subang, Ipoh and Bayan Lepas were 51, 50 and
49μgm/m³ respectively. Meanwhile, SO2 concentration recorded were 8, 7.9, 7.7μgm/m³. The three urban areas have
average number of CG lightning flashes of 200, 197 and 184. An analysis related number of CG flashes against pollutants
show positive correlation in Malaysia with reading of 0.94. This indicates PM10 and SO2 concentration have high
influential factor in enhancement of CG lightning activity in Malaysia
Mapping of pH, EC, and TDS Parameters to Identify Water Quality in Situ Cisanti
Situ Cisanti located at Tarumajaya Village, Kertasari District, Bandung Regency, West Java. Situ Cisanti has significant role in supporting the lives of the surrounding community, especially as the central source of clean water. This research was conduct to identify the water quality of Situ Cisanti by mapping the parameters of pH, Electrical Conductivity (EC), and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). Measurement was take using Combometer Hanna Grocheck HI 9813-6 at 69 points spread over the research area. The result of pH measurement in Situ Cisanti has a range value from 7,7 to 9,7 with an average value of 9. The EC measurement range value is 0,1 mS/cm to 0,9 mS/cm with an average value of 0,13 mS/cm. The TDS measurement range value is 83 mg/L to 141 mg/L, while the average is 100,78 mg/L. Most of the pH values in the study area meet the quality standards for hygiene sanitation water, while the EC and TDS values are below the threshold value, considering it safe for health

An Analysis Of Manual And Autoanalysis For Submicrosecond Parameters In The Typical First Lightning Return Stroke
The mechanism on how lightning detection system (LDS) operated never been exposed by manufacturer since it was confidential. This scenario motivated the authors to explore the issue above by using MATLAB to develop autoanalysis software based on the feature extraction. This extraction is intended for recognizing the parameters in the first return stroke, and compare the measurement between the autoanalysis software and the manual analysis. This paper is a modification based on a previous work regarding autoanalysis of zero-crossing time and initial peak of return stroke using features extraction programming technique. Further, the parameter on rising time of initial peak is added in this autoanalysis programming technique. Finally, the manual analysis using WaveStudio (LeCroy product) of those two lightning parameters is compared with autoanalysis software. This study found that the autoanalysis produce similar result with the manual analysis, hence proved the reliability of this software
