Non-Linear Finite Element Analysis of RC Beams With Special Detailing of Stirrups

1 ABSTRACT The paper includes the development and application of a non-linear finite element model for studying the structural behavior of beams designed using a flexure-shear interaction model. A two-dimensional material model with elasto-plastic and quadratic hardening function is used for concrete. The model takes the influence of confinement due to stirrups into considerations. The cracks propagation is modeled using a rotating crack smeared model. A modified quadratic Lagrange isoparametric element is used for modeling the concrete. This modeling allows variable positions of the interior nodes on both the edge and within the element. A bilinear elasto-plastic model is used for steel. The effect of tension stiffening and tension softening is considered in the analysis. Each bar of the reinforcement is modeled using either a discrete or a smeared model. A quadratic one dimensional isoparametric element is used for steel. The flexure-shear interaction design model considers the influence of shear force on reducing the flexural capacity of beams. The full flexural capacity is achieved by providing the load path within the beam with confinement stirrups. The beneficial influence of confinement on the strength and ductility of concrete is utilized in preventing the brittle shear failure. The test results have confirmed the applicability of the developed non-linear finite element and the flexure-shear interaction models. There was a good matching between the test results and the finite element analysis. 2 INTRODUCTION Normal size and short beams subjected to transverse loading may fail by diagonal cracking due to shear if they are not provided with web reinforcement. Traditional design methods for shear [1,2] are based on truss analogy developed by Mrsh one century ago [3]. These approaches do not necessary represent actual behavior of beams. They ignore the shear-flexure interaction behavior. The beam is first designed for flexure then checked for shear. The nominal (average) shear strength " bd V v = " assumed to occur on a section perpendicular to the beam axis is not a real indicator for shear strength of the beam since failure occurs along diagonal surface due the development of tensile stresses. The applied shear is assumed to be resisted by the concrete shear strength through beam and/or arch actions while the remaining shear is resisted by shear reinforcement through a truss action. The assumption of simultaneous occurrence of three actions to resist applied shear is totally unrealistic since this would result in strain incompatibility. Recognizing these limitations, a more realistic approach for shear design "flexure-shear interaction design model" has been developed based on actual behavior of beams [4]

Bennett terutama pada bagian strategi adaptasi siasat, perilaku, dan proses.   Kata Kunci: John W. Bennett, Covid-19, Buruh Tani, Inovasi This study analyzes the innovation strategy of farm workers in an effort to meet the needs of life in the midst of a pandemic. This substance is observed from John W. Bennett's Adaptation Strategy theory that adaptation is an effort to build patterns of social relations and free oneself from the problems faced. Adaptation here is divided into three, namely behavioral adaptation, strategy, and process. The focus of this research is in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, many farm workers have lost their jobs so that they are still very minimal in making ends meet. Therefore, the emergence of unique characteristics that require farm workers to coexist with the virus and create new activities to meet the needs of life. The method used is a case study, referring to the opinion of Stake. The research location is in Satreyan Village, Kanigoro District, Blitar Regency. The research subjects were three farm workers in Satreyan Village, namely YN, NG, SG. Data collection techniques used are in-depth interviews and observation. The data collected was analyzed by referring to the opinions of Miles and Huberman by juxtaposing the perspective of John W. Bennett's adaptive strategy theory. The results show that there are three innovation strategies for farm workers in an effort to meet the needs of life in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, namely strategies by implementing personal potential, implementing strategies for saving life necessities in the adaptation process, implementing social community as a behavioral strategy, and implementing strategies for maintaining health in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. Covid-19 pandemic. This research strengthens the theory of John W. Bennett's Adaptation Strategy, especially in the section on strategy, behavior, and process adaptation strategies. A strategy was developed for implementation and management of multisector urban infrastructure projects. The strategy includes risk-based analytical hierarchy process (AHP) for project prioritization that is based on project deliverables and project life-cycle and implementation guidelines. The expert-opinion elicitation process used for this study consists of a variation of the Delphi technique, scenario analysis, civil works, and nuclear industry recommendations. The AHP methodology utilizes a multicriteria decision-making technique that allows the consideration of both objective and subjective factors in obtaining cardinal priority ranking of infrastructure projects. The methodology, which deals with different fields of infrastructure, can incorporate uncertainty in the process and can be implemented using simple spreadsheet format. The methodology was developed for a group of players (methodology implementers

Data regarding the water and energy usage of current antimicrobial interventions in beef packing plants is scarce. The objective of this study was to collect representative water and energy usage data in a beef packing plant, with emphasis on antimicrobial interventions, to provide baseline data for comparison of new intervention technologies developed by researchers. Permanent and portable water flow meters were installed on the plant’s plumbing system to collect water flow data from March 2014 to March 2015. A local utility company was hired to meter electricity at the different subsystems using portable data loggers. The natural gas used in each subsystem was estimated by the amount of steam required to heat the water to the desired temperature and assuming the boiler efficiency as 82%, as estimated by the plant personnel. All data was normalized per 1000 kg live body weight (1000 kg LBW). The overall plant-wide water usage was 2968 L/1000 kg LBW (355 gal/1000 lb LBW). The antimicrobial interventions used 15.7% of the total water usage while viscera and byproducts processing, and overnight cleaning water accounted for 19% and 39% of the total water usage, respectively. The water usage was 100, 16, 253, and 97 L/1000 kg LBW for the pre-evisceration wash, organic acid spraying, carcass wash, and thermal pasteurization, respectively. The total metered electrical energy was 110.5 MJ/1000 kg LBW, over 96% of which was used by the plant’s cooling and hydraulic systems. The overall plant-wide natural gas usage was 512.6 MJ/1000 kg LBW, 11.6% of which was used by antimicrobial interventions for water heating. The viscera and byproducts processing, overnight cleaning, and other usage and losses, accounted for 11.7%, 36.1%, and 40.6% of the total natural gas, respectively
