Design Procedures for a Fully Differential Telescopic Cascode Two-Stage CMOS Operational Amplifier
AbstractIn this paper, a fully differential telescopic operational amplifier design is presented which achieve both high dc gain and high unity-gain frequency. Trade-offs among such factors as bandwidth, gain, phase, margin, bias current, signal swing, slew rate, and power are made evidently. The characteristic of this kind of two-stage operational amplifier is investigated theoretically, in this paper. The results indicate that proposed two-stage operational amplifier achieves broader unity bandwidth, increases the DC gain. Simulation results show that, at 5V power supply, the output swing is ±4.3V, settling time is 167.4ns. Based on the two-stage operational amplifier structure, the operational amplifier with 2.5V output common voltage shows a DC gain greater than 87dB, Gain Bandwidth over 39MHz (5pF load) and a phase margin larger than 84° with power dissipation of 3mW. These good results could be used in Σ-△ modulation and A/D conversion etc
Scheduling over Scenarios on Two Machines
We consider scheduling problems over scenarios where the goal is to find a
single assignment of the jobs to the machines which performs well over all
possible scenarios. Each scenario is a subset of jobs that must be executed in
that scenario and all scenarios are given explicitly. The two objectives that
we consider are minimizing the maximum makespan over all scenarios and
minimizing the sum of the makespans of all scenarios. For both versions, we
give several approximation algorithms and lower bounds on their
approximability. With this research into optimization problems over scenarios,
we have opened a new and rich field of interesting problems.Comment: To appear in COCOON 2014. The final publication is available at

An epitaxial model for heterogeneous nucleation on potent substrates
© The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society and ASM International 2012In this article, we present an epitaxial model for heterogeneous nucleation on potent substrates. It is proposed that heterogeneous nucleation of the solid phase (S) on a potent substrate (N) occurs by epitaxial growth of a pseudomorphic solid (PS) layer on the substrate surface under a critical undercooling (ΔT ). The PS layer with a coherent PS/N interface mimics the atomic arrangement of the substrate, giving rise to a linear increase of misfit strain energy with layer thickness. At a critical thickness (h ), elastic strain energy reaches a critical level, at which point, misfit dislocations are created to release the elastic strain energy in the PS layer. This converts the strained PS layer to a strainless solid (S), and changes the initial coherent PS/N interface into a semicoherent S/N interface. Beyond this critical thickness, further growth will be strainless, and solidification enters the growth stage. It is shown analytically that the lattice misfit (f) between the solid and the substrate has a strong influence on both h and ΔT ; h decreases; and ΔT increases with increasing lattice misfit. This epitaxial nucleation model will be used to explain qualitatively the generally accepted experimental findings on grain refinement in the literature and to analyze the general approaches to effective grain refinement.EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Liquid Metal Engineerin
3D in Vitro Ultrasound Super-Resolution Imaging Using a Clinical System
© 2018 IEEE. Assessment of complex and disordered tumour vasculature requires full 3D visualization. Ultrasound super-resolution techniques are able to image microvascular structure and flow beyond the diffraction limit. Existing demonstrations have been predominantly 2D, where the elevational resolution remains restricted to around the millimeter range, while 3D demonstrations have either used mechanical scanning, or have required customized or state-of-the-art research systems to achieve true super-resolution in the third dimension. In this study, 3D super-resolution and velocity tracking is demonstrated in vitro using an ultrasound imaging system currently available in the clinic. This was performed at 1.25 MHz transmit frequency, with a frame rate of 54 Hz in contrast enhanced imaging mode. Three-dimensional super-resolved volumetric imaging of a twisted micro-vessel phantom was demonstrated at 3.5 cm depth, where between 66-70% of localizations where estimated to fall within the vessel internal diameter. Demonstration of 3D ultrasound super-resolution using a system currently available in the clinic demonstrates a fast route for clinical translation and application. In the future, 3D localization using microbubble signal onset could allow considerably improved microvascular visualization to aid early disease detection, diagnosis, and intervention for micro-vascular related diseases like cancer
3-D Motion Correction for Volumetric Super-Resolution Ultrasound Imaging
© 2018 IEEE. Motion during image acquisition can cause image degradation in all medical imaging modalities. This is particularly relevant in 2-D ultrasound imaging, since out-of-plane motion can only be compensated for movements smaller than elevational beamwidth of the transducer. Localization based super-resolution imaging creates even a more challenging motion correction task due to the requirement of a high number of acquisitions to form a single super-resolved frame. In this study, an extension of two-stage motion correction method is proposed for 3-D motion correction. Motion estimation was performed on high volumetric rate ultrasound acquisitions with a handheld probe. The capability of the proposed method was demonstrated with a 3-D microvascular flow simulation to compensate for handheld probe motion. Results showed that two-stage motion correction method reduced the average localization error from 136 to 18 μm
Can filesharers be triggered by economic incentives? Results of an experiment
Illegal filesharing on the internet leads to considerable financial losses for artists and copyright owners as well as producers and sellers of music. Thus far, measures to contain this phenomenon have been rather restrictive. However, there are still a considerable number of illegal systems, and users are able to decide quite freely between legal and illegal downloads because the latter are still difficult to sanction. Recent economic approaches account for the improved bargaining position of users. They are based on the idea of revenue-splitting between professional sellers and peers. In order to test such an innovative business model, the study reported in this article carried out an experiment with 100 undergraduate students, forming five small peer-to-peer networks. The networks were confronted with different economic conditions. The results indicate that even experienced filesharers hold favourable attitudes towards revenue-splitting.They seem to be willing to adjust their behaviour to different economic conditions
Entropy-Corrected New Agegraphic Dark Energy Model in Horava-Lifshitz Gravity
In this work, we have considered the entropy-corrected new agegraphic dark
energy (ECNADE) model in Horava-Lifshitz gravity in FRW universe. We have
discussed the correspondence between ECNADE and other dark energy models such
as DBI-essence,Yang-Mills dark energy, Chameleon field, Non-linear
electrodynamics field and hessence dark energy in the context of
Horava-Lifshitz gravity and reconstructed the potentials and the dynamics of
the scalar field theory which describe the ECNADE.Comment: 12 page

Proximity effect at superconducting Sn-Bi2Se3 interface
We have investigated the conductance spectra of Sn-Bi2Se3 interface junctions
down to 250 mK and in different magnetic fields. A number of conductance
anomalies were observed below the superconducting transition temperature of Sn,
including a small gap different from that of Sn, and a zero-bias conductance
peak growing up at lower temperatures. We discussed the possible origins of the
smaller gap and the zero-bias conductance peak. These phenomena support that a
proximity-effect-induced chiral superconducting phase is formed at the
interface between the superconducting Sn and the strong spin-orbit coupling
material Bi2Se3.Comment: 7 pages, 8 figure
Centrality Dependence of the High p_T Charged Hadron Suppression in Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 130 GeV
PHENIX has measured the centrality dependence of charged hadron p_T spectra
from central Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN)=130 GeV. The truncated mean p_T
decreases with centrality for p_T > 2 GeV/c, indicating an apparent reduction
of the contribution from hard scattering to high p_T hadron production. For
central collisions the yield at high p_T is shown to be suppressed compared to
binary nucleon-nucleon collision scaling of p+p data. This suppression is
monotonically increasing with centrality, but most of the change occurs below
30% centrality, i.e. for collisions with less than about 140 participating
nucleons. The observed p_T and centrality dependence is consistent with the
particle production predicted by models including hard scattering and
subsequent energy loss of the scattered partons in the dense matter created in
the collisions.Comment: 7 pages text, LaTeX, 6 figures, 2 tables, 307 authors, resubmitted to
