Magnetic Field Enhanced Superconductivity in Epitaxial Thin Film WTe2.

In conventional superconductors an external magnetic field generally suppresses superconductivity. This results from a simple thermodynamic competition of the superconducting and magnetic free energies. In this study, we report the unconventional features in the superconducting epitaxial thin film tungsten telluride (WTe2). Measuring the electrical transport properties of Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) grown WTe2 thin films with a high precision rotation stage, we map the upper critical field Hc2 at different temperatures T. We observe the superconducting transition temperature T c is enhanced by in-plane magnetic fields. The upper critical field Hc2 is observed to establish an unconventional non-monotonic dependence on temperature. We suggest that this unconventional feature is due to the lifting of inversion symmetry, which leads to the enhancement of Hc2 in Ising superconductors

Applying CS and WSN methods for improving efficiency of frozen and chilled aquatic products monitoring system in cold chain logistics

Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is applied widely in food cold chain logistics. However, traditional monitoring systems require significant real-time sensor data transmission which will result in heavy data traffic and communication systems overloading, and thus reduce the data collection and transmission efficiency. This research aims to develop a temperature Monitoring System for Frozen and Chilled Aquatic Products (MS-FCAP) based on WSN integrated with Compressed Sending (CS) to improve the efficiency of MS-FCAP. Through understanding the temperature and related information requirements of frozen and chilled aquatic products cold chain logistics, this paper illustrates the design of the CS model which consists of sparse sampling and data reconstruction, and shelf-life prediction. The system was implemented and evaluated in cold chain logistics between Hainan and Beijing in China. The evaluation result suggests that MS-FCAP has a high accuracy in reconstructing temperature data under variable temperature condition as well as under constant temperature condition. The result shows that MS-FCAP is capable of recovering the sampled sensor data accurately and efficiently, reflecting the real-time temperature change in the refrigerated truck during cold chain logistics, and providing effective decision support traceability for quality and safety assurance of frozen and chilled aquatic products.Agro-scientific Researc

Recent Advances on p-Type III-Nitride Nanowires by Molecular Beam Epitaxy

    No full text
p-Type doping represents a key step towards III-nitride (InN, GaN, AlN) optoelectronic devices. In the past, tremendous efforts have been devoted to obtaining high quality p-type III-nitrides, and extraordinary progress has been made in both materials and device aspects. In this article, we intend to discuss a small portion of these processes, focusing on the molecular beam epitaxy (MBE)-grown p-type InN and AlN—two bottleneck material systems that limit the development of III-nitride near-infrared and deep ultraviolet (UV) optoelectronic devices. We will show that by using MBE-grown nanowire structures, the long-lasting p-type doping challenges of InN and AlN can be largely addressed. New aspects of MBE growth of III-nitride nanostructures are also discussed

Modular engineering of E. coli coculture for efficient production of resveratrol from glucose and arabinose mixture

    No full text
Resveratrol, a valuable plant-derived polyphenolic compound with various bioactivities, has been widely used in nutraceutical industries. Microbial production of resveratrol suffers from metabolic burden and low malonyl-CoA availability, which is a big challenge for synthetic biology. Herein, we took advantage of coculture engineering and divided the biosynthetic pathway of resveratrol into the upstream and downstream strains. By enhancing the supply of malonyl-CoA via CRISPRi system and fine-tuning the expression intensity of the synthetic pathway genes, we significantly improved the resveratrol productivity of the downstream strain. Furthermore, we developed a resveratrol addiction circuit that coupled the growth of the upstream strain and the resveratrol production of the downstream strain. The bidirectional interaction stabilized the coculture system and increased the production of resveratrol by 74%. Moreover, co-utilization of glucose and arabinose by the coculture system maintained the growth advantage of the downstream strain for production of resveratrol throughout the fermentation process. Under optimized conditions, the engineered E. coli coculture system produced 204.80 mg/L of resveratrol, 12.8-fold improvement over monoculture system. This study demonstrates the promising potential of coculture engineering for efficient production of natural products from biomass

Quality Characteristics Analysis and Remaining Shelf Life Prediction of Fresh Tibetan Tricholoma matsutake under Modified Atmosphere Packaging in Cold Chain

    No full text
Tricholoma matsutake (T. matsutake) growing in Tibet is very popular for its high economic and medicinal value, but fresh T. matsutake has an extremely short shelf life. The shelf life of T. matsutake is complex, influenced by product characteristics, surrounding environmental conditions, and spoilage development. The objective of this work was to study the quality characteristics of fresh T. matsutake during its shelf life period in modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) conditions and establish its remaining shelf life prediction models in a cold chain. In this study, we measured and analyzed quality indicators of fresh T. matsutake, including hardness (cap, stipe), color, odor of sensory characteristics, pH, soluble solids content (SSC), and moisture content (MC) of physical and chemical characteristics under the temperature condition of 4 °C and relative humidity (RH) of 90%. The sensory evaluation results showed that the odor indicator in sensory characteristics was more sensitive to the freshness of T. matsutake. The changes of pH, SSC, and MC were divided into three periods to analyze the physiological changes of T. matsutake. The cap spread process could affect the changes of pH, SSC, and MC in period S1, and they changed gradually in period S2. In the period S3, they changed complicatedly because of deterioration. The remaining shelf life prediction model of T. matsutake was established by the back propagation (BP) neural network method to quantify the relationship between the quality indicators and the remaining shelf life. The shelf life characteristics are complex, which were optimized by correlation analysis. Significant benefits of this work are anticipated on the transportation and preservation of fresh T. matsutake to the market and the reduction of its losses in the postharvest chain

Research on the Coordination Suppression Strategy of Neutral Point Potential and Common Mode Voltage for NPC Three-Level Inverter

    No full text
A Neutral Point Clamped (NPC) type three-level inverter has the advantages of a low switch voltage and a high-quality output waveform. However, there are inherent problems, such as neutral point potential asymmetry and common mode interferences, which easily affect the symmetry of the three-phase output voltage and the safe operation of the inverter. Firstly, according to the different modulation degrees, the fluctuation of midpoint potential can be suppressed by adding an action time correction factor to the traditional space vector pulse-width (SVPWM) modulation strategy and virtual space vector pulse-width (VSVPWM) modulation strategy, respectively. Secondly, considering the suppression of common mode voltage, a new virtual space vector pulse-width (NVSVPWM) modulation strategy is proposed, which uses a set of new vector synthesis methods. Finally, the simulation and experiment prove that the NVSVPWM strategy with an action time correction factor can suppress the fluctuation of the neutral point potential and common mode voltage at the same time, and the effect is significant
