Higher Immersive Profiles Improve Learning Outcomes in Augmented Reality Learning Environments
Augmented reality (AR)-based learning environments are argued to foster cognitive and
emotional involvement. Immersion has been identified as one of the driving forces that promote
learning in technology-based learning environments. This study evaluated the learning effectiveness
and immersion appeal of an AR-marker-based learning activity targeted at practicing basic chemistry
concepts. Data were collected from a cohort of 124 middle school students in Mexico and analyzed
using pretest–posttest comparisons and cluster analysis. The results suggest that students with
higher immersive learning profiles achieve better learning outcomes compared with those with lower
immersive profiles. The authors acknowledge the eMadrid Network, which is funded by the Madrid Regional

Palabra(s) Clave(s): redes sociales, aprendizaje colaborativo, dispositivos móviles
Affective Environment for Java Programming Using Facial and EEG Recognition
Abstract. We have developed an affective and intelligent learning environment that helps students to improve their Java programming skills. This environment evaluates cognitive and affective aspects of students in order to define the level of difficulty of the exercises that are more suitable for the them in its current condition. The cognitive aspects are: the number of mistakes, the difficulty level of the current exercise and the time spent in the solution. The affective aspects are: the acquired emotion from a facial expression and the acquired valence from electroencephalogram signals. This environment also uses a neural network for face recognition of basic emotions, a support vector machine to define the valence of emotion and a fuzzy inference engine to evaluate the cognitive and affective aspects
AI-Driven Assessment of Students: Current Uses and Research Trends
During the last decade, the use of AIs is being incorporated into the
educational field whether to support the analysis of human behavior in teachinglearning
contexts, as didactic resource combined with other technologies or as a
tool for the assessment of the students.
This proposal presents a Systematic Literature Review and mapping study on
the use of AIs for the assessment of students that aims to provide a general
overview of the state of the art and identify the current areas of research by
answering 6 research questions related with the evolution of the field, and the
geographic and thematic distribution of the studies.
As a result of the selection process this study identified 20 papers focused on
the research topic in the repositories SCOPUS and Web of Science from an
initial amount of 129.
The analysis of the papers allowed the identification of three main thematic
categories: assessment of student behaviors, assessment of student sentiments
and assessment of student achievement as well as several gaps in the literature
and future research lines addressed in the discussion

This work explores a methodological proposal whose main objective is the identification of learning styles using a method of self–organizing maps designed to work, for the most part, on mobile devices. These maps can work in real time and without direct student interaction, which implies the absence of prior information. The results generated are an authoring tool for adaptive courses in Web 2.0 environments

Pattern Recognition for the Identification of Learning Styles on Educational Mobile and Social Network Tools
Abstract. In this paper we present an implementation of pattern recognition techniques as the central part of an adaptive learning social network to be used as an authoring and learning tool. With this tool, adaptive courses, intelligent tutoring systems and lessons can be created, displayed and shared in collaborative and mobile environments by communities of instructors and learners. To show the maturation process to end up with the adaptive tool called Zamná, we first show the development of three previous intelligent tutoring systems with authoring and personalizing capabilities. In most of them the Felder-Silverman model is followed to tailor courses to the student's learning style. Several pattern recognition approaches are applied to identify the student's learning style. An introduction of a social learning network to create, view and manage adaptive intelligent tutoring systems, and some innovative methods to identify the student's learning style, are the contributions of this paper
