En este trabajo ofrecemos un panorama general sobre los estudios en “arqueología de la represión” (sensu Funari y Zarankin 2006), centrándonos en el caso de América Latina. Nos referimos a las investigaciones que discuten las prácticas represivas de las dictaduras de la región durante las décadas de 1960 y 1970.In this article we offer an overview of the studies on the “archaeology of repression” (sensu Funari and Zarankin 2006), specifically focusing on the case of Latin America. Arqueología de la Arquitectura, una mirada desde América del Sur

The Archeology of Architecture in South America, despite being diverse and heterogeneous, owns some distinctive characteristics. One of these has been a growing interest in discussing the strategies for reproducing power systems in the region. Understanding architecture as a technology of power and a non-verbal type of communication, in this paper we present a short synthesis of theoretical methodological proposals and study cases, which we have worked over the last 20 years.La Arqueología de la Arquitectura en América del Sur, a pesar de diversa y heterogénea, posee algunas características distintivas. Una de estas ha sido un creciente interés por discutir los sistemas de reproducción de las estructuras de poder en la región. Concibiendo la arquitectura como una tecnología del poder y una forma de comunicación no verbal, en este trabajo sintetizamos propuestas teórico metodológicas y casos de estudio, que hemos desarrollado a lo largo de 20 años

Cachimbos europeus de cerâmica branca, séculos XVI ao XIX: parâmetros básicos para análise arqueológica

O tabaco foi introduzido na Europa no final do século XV. Desde então, uma das formas mais comuns para o seu consumo foi o cachimbo, além do rapé, do tabaco de mascar, do charuto e, mais recentemente, dos cigarros. Os cachimbos de cerâmica branca, largamente produzidos e utilizados na Europa desde o século XV, são encontrados em sítios arqueológicos históricos ao redor do mundo, incluindo no Brasil, em decorrência do comércio internacional, que gradualmente se intensificou após o início da conquista europeia. Eles funcionam como excelentes elementos para datação de sítios e estratos arqueológicos, tendo sido estudados em vários países a partir dessa abordagem. Ainda, esse tipo de artefato, mais que fornecer datações, permite identificar redes comerciais entre nações e desenvolver discussões de cunho social e cultural. Contudo, eles foram pouco estudados no Brasil. Visando contribuir com os estudos nacionais dessa categoria material, este artigo oferece uma revisão da literatura internacional acerca do histórico da produção dos cachimbos europeus de caulim, incluindo apresentação dos principais centros produtores; da morfologia e decoração desses produtos, considerando a cronologia do fabrico; e dos métodos de análise dos diferentes cachimbos de caulim no âmbito da arqueologia histórica.Tobacco was introduced in Europe at the end of the 15th century. Since then, one of the most traditional means for its use has been the pipe, next to the powder version, chewing, cigars, and, more recently, cigarettes. White clay tobacco pipes, widely produced and used in Europe since the 15th century, are found in historical archaeological sites around the world, including Brazil, due to international trade, which gradually intensified with the European conquest of the New World. They are excellent guides for dating archaeological sites and layers. In addition, this type of artifact, more than a dating tool, permits identifying trading networks between nations and developing discussions of cultural and social nature. These pipes, however, have been understudied in Brazil. In order to contribute to studies of this type of artifact in our country, this paper offers a revision of the international literature on the history of clay pipe production in Europe, including the presentation of main production centers; morphology and decoration of these products, considering issues of fabrication chronology; and the methods used in Historical Archaeology for analyzing clay tobacco pipes

THE ROLE OF THE «GRAND SCHOOLS» AND THE «GRAND CORPS» AS RECRUITMENT CHANNELS FOR FRENCH MINISTERS

The recruitment of ministers among high-ranking officials, who studied in the «grand schools» and worked in the «grand corps», is one of the typical traits of the Fifth republic. This is a consequence of the traditional interpenetration of French administrative and political elites. However, there is no common view on the actual role of these institutions in the ministers’ recruitment. So, the objective of this paper is to clarify this issue. For this purpose we analyze career trajectories of French ministers from 1981 till 2016. The data on each government include shares of ministers, who passed through the «grand schools» and the «grand corps». The article shows that nowadays the number of ministers with such an experience has decreased. Most government members are professional politicians, who have significant electoral experience and occupy high-ranking party positions. Today there are political parties, not the «grand schools» and the «grand corps», that are the main channels of the ministers’ recruitment. The professionalization of politics and reinforcement of the role of parties in the French political system are the most crucial factors of this tendency. The transformation of gaullists into liberals and conduction of the liberal economic policy, instead of the dirigist one, also contributed to replacement of officials by representatives of the private sector. Despite the fact that political parties serve as a main channel of the ministers’ recruitment, they face internal problems. The future role of political parties in the recruitment will depend on their ability to deal with these challenges

Theoretical Approaches to Studying Political Actors’ Career Trajectories by the Example of the Fifth and Sixth State Duma Deputies from the «Just Russia» Party

Two approaches to studying political actors’ career trajectories are represented in this article. Using the career approach, the author analyzes career trajectories of the fifth and sixth State Duma deputies from the «Just Russia» party to understand transformation of the spoiler party composition since its foundation. It is revealed that there are no systemic factors of deputies’ recruiting, however there are several channels of recruiting and models of career trajectories after leaving the State Duma. It is demonstrated that these channels and models differentiate from each other in the fifth and sixth convocations

Archaeology In Antarctica: Nineteenth-century Capitalism Expansion Strategies

Antarctica was the last continent to be discovered in the early nineteenth century. In order to become acquainted with the process of incorporation of Antarctica to the scope of the capitalist system we have focused on particularity: i.e., specific economic and technological and ideological aspects of everyday life in sealer camps spread along the coastline of the South Shetland Islands. "eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind": Archaeology And Construction Of Memory Of Military Repression In South America (1960-1980)

During the era of dictatorships in Latin America, opposition was controlled by different methods-such as exile, detention, and murder. Repressive devices were reinforced by means of limiting information to ordinary people. Written sources on clandestine repression are scarce and fragmentary. As a matter of fact, most documents on the subject were destroyed by military regimes in recent past.
