The Central Role of the State in the Governance of Sport and the Olympic Movement in Tunisia, from 1956 to the Present Day
This paper examines the relationship between sport and the Tunisian state, focusing on the issues of governance and regulation. Identified are three periods: from independence to the coup d’état (20 March 1956–7 November 1987), where sport was a component of national identity; Ben Ali’s regime taking control of the Olympic Movement, 1987–2011; and post-2011, which witnessed attempts to achieve democracy. Descriptions of the situation in each of the three periods
are followed by analyses of sports policies (objectives, resources, and results), legislation, turning points, and tensions
Evaluation Of The Heavy Metals Accumulate In Samples Of TheSediments, Soils And Plants By Icpoes With The Average Sebou
The urban, industrial and artisanal wastes liquid of the town of Fez have a very remarkable impact in the valley of Sebou. For that, various samples of sediments, agricultural grounds and plants were collected upstream like downstream from the junction Oued Fez- Oued Sebou along about thirty the kilometers; and analyzed by the method of the optical spectrometry of emission to source of plasma in inductive coupling (ICP-OES). These analyses enabled us to evaluate the contents of heavy metals such as: Ba, Zn, Cr, Ni, Co, Cd, Pb, Cu and others. All the results record a high degree of contamination of the metal elements to the state of trace in samples of sediments, grounds and plants irrigated with worn water containing of the particles of suspended materials. Iron oxide doped boron nitride nanotubes: structural and magnetic properties
A first-principles formalism is employed to investigate the interaction of
iron oxide (FeO) with a boron nitride (BN) nanotube. The stable structure of
the FeO-nanotube has Fe atoms binding N atoms, with bond length of roughly
2.1 \AA, and binding between O and B atoms, with bond length of 1.55 \AA.
In case of small FeO concentrations, the total magnetic moment is
(4) times the number of Fe atoms in the unit cell and it is
energetically favorable to FeO units to aggregate rather than randomly bind to
the tube. As a larger FeO concentration case, we study a BN nanotube fully
covered by a single layer of FeO. We found that such a structure has square FeO
lattice with Fe-O bond length of 2.11 \AA, similar to that of FeO bulk, and
total magnetic moment of 3.94 per Fe atom. Consistently with
experimental results, the FeO covered nanotube is a semi-half-metal which can
become a half-metal if a small change in the Fermi level is induced. Such a
structure may be important in the spintronics context.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figure
Patients with complicated Pott's disease: Management in a rehabilitation department and functional prognosis
AbstractObjectiveThe objective is to study the rehabilitation management and to assess autonomy in daily life activities as well as walking recovery in patients with complicated Pott's disease.Patients and methodsRetrospective study in nine patients over a period of 8 years extending from 2000 to 2008, collated in the Department of Physical Medicine and Functional Rehabilitation, CHU Sahloul, Sousse, Tunisia.ResultsThe mean age of our patients was 43.8 years; sex ratio was 5/4. The spine involvement of tuberculosis was dorsal in seven cases, dorso-lumbar in one patient, and multiple (cervical, dorsal and lumbar) in one case. All patients were paraplegic with a neurological involvement of the bladder. They had prior antituberculosis chemotherapy for at least 8 months. Decompression surgery was performed in six cases. Two female patients presented disorders of spinal posture during treatment requiring surgical revision with osteosynthesis. All patients received additional rehabilitation care. Following a mean duration of hospitalisation in the Rehabilitation department of 47 days with twice-daily sessions of tailored physiotherapy, three patients remained in complete paraplegia, autonomous in wheel-chair and with vesical and sphincter incontinence. The measure of functional independence (MFI) was at admission/discharge 71/92.ConclusionRehabilitation takes an important place in the medico-surgical management in Pott's disease, to limite or compensate the disabilities and handicap related to this pathology
Étude du pouvoir pathogène des isolats de Verticillium dahliae Kleb. issus de l'olivier (picholine marocaine) au Maroc
La picholine marocaine est la variété d’olivier la plus cultivée au Maroc. Elle occupe plus de 92% de la superficie oléicole. Malheureusement, elle s’est avérée sensible à la verticilliose. Une centaine d’isolats de Verticillium dahliae kleb. ont été collectés sur cette variété, dans différentes régions du Maroc. Parmi cette collection, 12 isolats ont été sélectionnés et testés pour l’analyse des pouvoirs pathogènes de Verticillium dahliae sur la variété picholine marocaine. Un continuum du degré de pathogénicité a été observé depuis les plus agressives jusqu’au moins agressives. Les isolats issus de la région Sud ont montré une grande variabilité du pouvoir pathogène. Les isolats 97, 153, 166 (issus des régions Nord) et l’isolat 210 (région du Sud) ont montré les degrés de pathogénicité les plus élevés
Subconjunctival Injection of XG-102, a c-Jun N-Terminal Kinase Inhibitor Peptide, in the Treatment of Endotoxin-Induced Uveitis in Rats.
Abstract Purpose: XG-102, a TAT-coupled dextrogyre peptide inhibiting the c-Jun N-terminal kinase, was shown efficient in the treatment of experimental uveitis. Preclinical studies are now performed to determine optimal XG-102 dose and route of administration in endotoxin-induced uveitis (EIU) in rats with the purpose of clinical study design.
METHODS: EIU was induced in Lewis rats by lipopolysaccharides (LPS) injection. XG-102 was administered at the time of LPS challenge by intravenous (IV; 3.2, 35 or 355 μg/injection), intravitreal (IVT; 0.08, 0.2 or 2.2 μg/eye), or subconjunctival (SCJ; 0.2, 1.8 or 22 μg/eye) routes. Controls received either the vehicle (saline) or dexamethasone phosphate injections. Efficacy was assessed by clinical scoring, infiltrating cells count, and expression of inflammatory mediators [inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), cytokine-induced neutrophil chemoattractant-1 (CINC-1)]. The effect of XG-102 on phosphorylation of c-Jun was evaluated by Western blot.
RESULTS: XG-102 demonstrated a dose-dependent anti-inflammatory effect in EIU after IV and SCJ administrations. Respective doses of 35 and 1.8 μg were efficient as compared with the vehicle-injected controls, but only the highest doses, respectively 355 and 22 μg, were as efficient as dexamethasone phosphate. After IVT injections, the anti-inflammatory effect of XG-102 was clinically evaluated similar to the corticoid's effect with all the tested doses. Regardless of the administration route, the lowest efficient doses of XG-102 significantly decreased the ration of phospho c-Jun/total c-Jun, reduced cells infiltration in the treated eyes, and significantly downregulated iNOS and CINC-1 expression in the retina.
CONCLUSION: These results confirm that XG-102 peptide has potential for treating intraocular inflammation. SCJ injection appears as a good compromise to provide a therapeutic effect while limiting side effects
A Stochastic Multi-scale Approach for Numerical Modeling of Complex Materials - Application to Uniaxial Cyclic Response of Concrete
In complex materials, numerous intertwined phenomena underlie the overall
response at macroscale. These phenomena can pertain to different engineering
fields (mechanical , chemical, electrical), occur at different scales, can
appear as uncertain, and are nonlinear. Interacting with complex materials thus
calls for developing nonlinear computational approaches where multi-scale
techniques that grasp key phenomena at the relevant scale need to be mingled
with stochastic methods accounting for uncertainties. In this chapter, we
develop such a computational approach for modeling the mechanical response of a
representative volume of concrete in uniaxial cyclic loading. A mesoscale is
defined such that it represents an equivalent heterogeneous medium: nonlinear
local response is modeled in the framework of Thermodynamics with Internal
Variables; spatial variability of the local response is represented by
correlated random vector fields generated with the Spectral Representation
Method. Macroscale response is recovered through standard ho-mogenization
procedure from Micromechanics and shows salient features of the uniaxial cyclic

Genomic and transcriptomic landscape of conjunctival melanoma.
Conjunctival melanoma (CJM) is a rare but potentially lethal and highly-recurrent cancer of the eye. Similar to cutaneous melanoma (CM), it originates from melanocytes. Unlike CM, however, CJM is relatively poorly characterized from a genomic point of view. To fill this knowledge gap and gain insight into the genomic nature of CJM, we performed whole-exome (WES) or whole-genome sequencing (WGS) of tumor-normal tissue pairs in 14 affected individuals, as well as RNA sequencing in a subset of 11 tumor tissues. Our results show that, similarly to CM, CJM is also characterized by a very high mutation load, composed of approximately 500 somatic mutations in exonic regions. This, as well as the presence of a UV light-induced mutational signature, are clear signs of the role of sunlight in CJM tumorigenesis. In addition, the genomic classification of CM proposed by TCGA seems to be well-applicable to CJM, with the presence of four typical subclasses defined on the basis of the most frequently mutated genes: BRAF, NF1, RAS, and triple wild-type. In line with these results, transcriptomic analyses revealed similarities with CM as well, namely the presence of a transcriptomic subtype enriched for immune genes and a subtype enriched for genes associated with keratins and epithelial functions. Finally, in seven tumors we detected somatic mutations in ACSS3, a possible new candidate oncogene. Transfected conjunctival melanoma cells overexpressing mutant ACSS3 showed higher proliferative activity, supporting the direct involvement of this gene in the tumorigenesis of CJM. Altogether, our results provide the first unbiased and complete genomic and transcriptomic classification of CJM
Comprehensive Genetic Landscape of Uveal Melanoma by Whole-Genome Sequencing.
Uveal melanoma (UM) is a rare intraocular tumor that, similar to cutaneous melanoma, originates from melanocytes. To gain insights into its genetics, we performed whole-genome sequencing at very deep coverage of tumor-control pairs in 33 samples (24 primary and 9 metastases). Genome-wide, the number of coding mutations was rather low (only 17 variants per tumor on average; range 7-28), thus radically different from cutaneous melanoma, where hundreds of exonic DNA insults are usually detected. Furthermore, no UV light-induced mutational signature was identified. Recurrent coding mutations were found in the known UM drivers GNAQ, GNA11, BAP1, EIF1AX, and SF3B1. Other genes, i.e., TP53BP1, CSMD1, TTC28, DLK2, and KTN1, were also found to harbor somatic mutations in more than one individual, possibly indicating a previously undescribed association with UM pathogenesis. De novo assembly of unmatched reads from non-coding DNA revealed peculiar copy-number variations defining specific UM subtypes, which in turn could be associated with metastatic transformation. Mutational-driven comparison with other tumor types showed that UM is very similar to pediatric tumors, characterized by very few somatic insults and, possibly, important epigenetic changes. Through the analysis of whole-genome sequencing data, our findings shed new light on the molecular genetics of uveal melanoma, delineating it as an atypical tumor of the adult for which somatic events other than mutations in exonic DNA shape its genetic landscape and define its metastatic potential
