A new fragment of a Centre-Mediterranean Amphora stamped with an epigraphical seal was found during recent excavations in an empty lot of the city of Cadiz. The area corresponds to a part of the main Phoenician-Punic and Roman necropolis of the old city. The fragment was found in an old, unused trench filled with Punic materials (from the end of the III century B. C. E.). The new finding extends the number of this kind of documents known until now. The text of the stamp-seal seems to correspond to the abbreviation of a Punic personal name. This fact supports the anthroponomical interpretation of most inscriptions of this type and suggests that they link the individuals mentioned in the seals with the processes of production of the amphorae, although this is still the subject of discussion. On the other hand, the context of finding of the new stamped amphora brings up, once again, the problem of the interpretation of this kind of remains (refilled pits and trenches in the necropolis), which could refer to the celebration of banquets in funeral areas
Punic amphora stamps and graffiti found in the area of “Los chinchorros” (San Bartolomé Street, Cádiz)
The salvage excavations carried out during 2007 and 2008 conducted and directed by M. L.
Lavado in the area popularly known as “Los Chinchorros”, outside the walls of the modern city of Cadiz,
allowed the recovery of archaeological data from the south of the urban area of Gadir/Gades. This new
data attested the presence there of the archaic Phoenician necropolis, Punic fish salting facilities and
other artisanal and funerary areas dating to the Roman period. The contexts excavated in relation to the
Punic and late Punic fish processing activities provided an outstanding amount of artifacts, including
a large number of amphorae and fragments of glazed tableware documented in some dumping pits.
Among these materials, the presence of several amphorae stamps, both local and of Carthaginian origin,
stands out, as well as several graffiti engraved on tableware vessels. The limited number of marks of
these types that have been studied in the area of Cadiz bay, as well as the epigraphic and iconographic
content of the stamps and their relationship with artisanal contexts have motivated a specific analysis,
providing new insights about phenomena of complex historical interpretation such as the stamping of
amphoras. Eight unpublished marks are discussed, five corresponding to the activity of local pottery
workshops, and three more (biliteral epigraphs in two of the cases) that can be linked to Carthaginian
transport containers
Culto y culturas en la cueva de Gorham (Gibraltar): La historia del santuario y sus materiales inscritos
This paper presents an updated overview of the ongoing archaeological research carried out in the Protohistoric sanctuary of Gorham’s Cave (Gibraltar). It is based on the results of recent excavations, focusing on incised pottery with inscriptions or other marks. The catalogue of inscriptions includes both Phoenician and Graeco-Iberian examples, which could be related with the deposition of votive offerings from Archaic to Hellenistic periods.
Surgical treatment for liver haematoma following endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography: An unusual case
AbstractBackgroundEven in expert hands, there can be serious complications when performing an endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. The most frequent complications are pancreatitis, cholangitis, bleeding, perforation, and acute cholecystitis. The hepatic subcapsular haematoma is a rare complication, with few cases described worldwide.ObjectiveA case is presented of an extremely rare complication of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, which required surgical treatment for its resolution without success. This is second case of mortality reported in the literature.Clinical caseFemale patient of 30 years old, with indication for endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography due to benign strictures. A hydro-pneumatic dilation and stent placement of 2 gauge 10Fr was performed. She presented abdominal pain after the procedure and significant decline in haemoglobin with no evidence of haemodynamic instability so an abdominal tomography scan was performed, showing no evidence of liver injury. The patient was haemodynamic unstable within 72h. A laparotomy was required for damage control, with fatal outcome in the intensive care unit due to multiple organ failure.ConclusionSubcapsular hepatic haematoma after endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography is a rare complication, with few cases reported in the literature. Treatment described in the literature is conservative, resulting in a satisfactory resolution
An 8-gene qRT-PCR-based gene expression score that has prognostic value in early breast cancer

Abstract

Background

Gene expression profiling may improve prognostic accuracy in patients with early breast cancer. Our objective was to demonstrate that it is possible to develop a simple molecular signature to predict distant relapse.

Methods

We included 153 patients with stage I-II hormonal receptor-positive breast cancer. RNA was isolated from formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded samples and qRT-PCR amplification of 83 genes was performed with gene expression assays. The genes we analyzed were those included in the 70-Gene Signature, the Recurrence Score and the Two-Gene Index. The association among gene expression, clinical variables and distant metastasis-free survival was analyzed using Cox regression models.

Results

An 8-gene prognostic score was defined. Distant metastasis-free survival at 5 years was 97% for patients defined as low-risk by the prognostic score versus 60% for patients defined as high-risk. The 8-gene score remained a significant factor in multivariate analysis and its performance was similar to that of two validated gene profiles: the 70-Gene Signature and the Recurrence Score. The validity of the signature was verified in independent cohorts obtained from the GEO database.

Conclusions

This study identifies a simple gene expression score that complements histopathological prognostic factors in breast cancer, and can be determined in paraffin-embedded samples.</p
Electrochemical corrosion behavior of passivated precipitation hardening stainless steels for aerospace applications
Precipitation-hardening (PH) stainless steels (SS) are widely used in various aerospace applications. These steels exhibit good mechanical and corrosion resistance. The electrochemical behavior of 15-5PH, 17-4PH, Custom450 and AM 350 stainless steels passivated with citric and nitric acid baths for 60 and 90 min at 25 and 49 °C were evaluated in 5 wt.% sodium chloride (NaCl) and 1 wt.% sulfuric acid (H2SO4) solutions. The electrochemical behavior was studied with potentiodynamic polarization curves (PPC) according to the ASTM G5-13 standard. The results indicated that there are two characteristic mechanisms that are present in the potentiodynamic polarization curves. When the PHSS is immersed in an H2SO4 solution, there is a secondary passivation, and in the NaCl solution, there is a pseudo-passivation (not stable passivation film). The current densities in the NaCl solution were between 10−4 and 10−5 mA/cm2, while those of H2SO4 were recorded around 10−2 and 10−3 mA/cm2. Citric acid does work as a passivating solution, and in some cases, the corrosion resistance of the stainless steel was comparable to that of nitric acid
Corrosion Behaviour of 304 Austenitic, 15-5PH and 17-4PH Passive Stainless Steels in acid solutions
The objective of this work was to study is use electrochemical techniques to determinate the growth conditions, characteristics and resistance of passive layers of stainless steel (SS): 304 austenitic, 17-4PH (precipitation hardening) and 15-5PH. Passivation of the SS was performed in 15% citric acid at temperatures of 25 and 49 °C. The corrosion kinetics was obtained using the electrochemical technique as potentiodynamic polarization (PP), in a three-electrode system. The electrolytes used were sodium chloride (5 wt. % NaCl) and sulfuric acid (1 wt. % H2SO4). Passivation in citric acid allows obtain passive layers at temperatures of 49°C with immersion times of 30 minutes. In precipitation hardening steels, passive layers up to 360 mV in sodium chloride. Can be obtained. In sulfuric acid, there is a mechanism of passivation – transpassivation - secondary passivation, this due to the high electropositive values of potential

Detection of kinase domain mutations in BCR::ABL1 leukemia by ultra-deep sequencing of genomic DNA
The screening of the BCR::ABL1 kinase domain (KD) mutation has become a routine analysis in case of warning/failure for chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) Philadelphia (Ph)-positive patients. In this study, we present a novel DNA-based next-generation sequencing (NGS) methodology for KD ABL1 mutation detection and monitoring with a 1.0E−4 sensitivity. This approach was validated with a well-stablished RNA-based nested NGS method. The correlation of both techniques for the quantification of ABL1 mutations was high (Pearson r = 0.858, p < 0.001), offering DNA-DeepNGS a sensitivity of 92% and specificity of 82%. The clinical impact was studied in a cohort of 129 patients (n = 67 for CML and n = 62 for B-ALL patients). A total of 162 samples (n = 86 CML and n = 76 B-ALL) were studied. Of them, 27 out of 86 harbored mutations (6 in warning and 21 in failure) for CML, and 13 out of 76 (2 diagnostic and 11 relapse samples) did in B-ALL patients. In addition, in four cases were detected mutation despite BCR::ABL1 < 1%. In conclusion, we were able to detect KD ABL1 mutations with a 1.0E−4 sensitivity by NGS using DNA as starting material even in patients with low levels of disease.Tis project was funded in part by CRIS CANCER FOUNDATION
