Asymptotic behavior in time periodic parabolic problems with unbounded coefficients
We study asymptotic behavior in a class of non-autonomous second order
parabolic equations with time periodic unbounded coefficients in . Our results generalize and improve asymptotic behavior
results for Markov semigroups having an invariant measure. We also study
spectral properties of the realization of the parabolic operator in suitable spaces
On Generating Binary Words Palindromically
We regard a finite word up to word isomorphism as an
equivalence relation on where is equivalent to if
and only if Some finite words (in particular all binary words) are
generated by "{\it palindromic}" relations of the form for some
choice of and That is to say,
some finite words are uniquely determined up to word isomorphism by the
position and length of some of its palindromic factors. In this paper we study
the function defined as the least number of palindromic relations
required to generate We show that every aperiodic infinite word must
contain a factor with and that some infinite words have
the property that for each factor of We obtain a
complete classification of such words on a binary alphabet (which includes the
well known class of Sturmian words). In contrast for the Thue-Morse word, we
show that the function is unbounded
Investigating Social Exclusion in Late Prehistoric Italy: Preliminary Results of the ââIN or OUTââ Project (PHASE 1)
This report presents the preliminary results of the ââIN or OUTââ Project, a collaborative, interdisciplinary effort which aims to investigate social exclusion, marginality and the adoption of anomalous funerary rites in late prehistoric Italy. In particular, this contribution explores the incidence and meaning of practices of ritual marginalisation and funerary deviancy in the region of Veneto between the Bronze Age and the early Iron Age period
Influence of the rootstock and potassium fertilizer on phytoalexin synthesis in Pinot blanc grown in a calcareous soil
Plants of cv. Pinot blanc, grafted on Vitis berlandieri x V. riparia Kober 5 BB, V. berlandieri x V. riparia SO 4, V. berlandieri x V. rupestris 1103 P, were grown in pots at two levels of potassium supply (0 g K2O/pot and 2 g K2O/pot) in order to test the phytoalexin synthesis in the leaves. The experimental plan included also the macronutrient, trace element and chlorophyll contents of the leaves. The most important findings are: a) Resveratrol synthesis decreases from Kober 5 BB to SO 4 and 1103 P, while leaf chlorophyll content increases. b) Resveratrol synthesis is higher in the plants without potassium supply
Eigenvalues and simplicity of interval exchange transformations
International audienceFor a class of d-interval exchange transformations, whichwe call the symmetric class,we deĂne a new self-dual induction process in which the system is successively induced on a union ofsub-intervals. This algorithm gives rise to an underlying graph structure which reĂects the dynamicalbehavior of the system, through theRokhlin towers of the induced maps. We apply it to build a wide as-sortment of explicit examples on four intervals having different dynamical properties: these include theĂrst nontrivial examples with eigenvalues (rational or irrational), the Ărst ever example of an exchangeon more than three intervals satisfying VeechĂs simplicity (though this weakening of the notion of min-imal self-joinings was designed in 1982 to be satisĂed by interval exchange transformations), and anunexpected example which is non uniquely ergodic, weakly mixing for one invariant ergodic measurebut has rational eigenvalues for the other invariant ergodic measure
Sexual functioning and opioid maintenance treatment in women. Results from a large multicentre study
Opioid maintenance treatment (OMT) is the most widespread therapy for both females and males opioid addicts. While many studies have evaluated the OMT impact on menâs sexuality, the data collected about the change in womenâs sexual functioning is still limited despite the fact that it is now well-known that opioids-both endogenous and exogenous-affect the endocrine system and play an important role in sexual functioning. The present study aims to determine how OMT with buprenorphine (BUP) or methadone (MTD) affects sexual health in women; examining also any possible emerging correlation between sexual dysfunction (SD), type of opioid and patientsâ mental health. This multi-center study case recruited 258 female volunteers attending Italian public Addiction Outpatients Centers that were stabilized with OMT for at least 3 months. SD was assessed with the Arizona Sexual Experience Scale. The twelve-item General Health Questionnaire was used to assess participantsâ mental health conditions. The results show that 56.6% of women receiving OMT for at least 3 months presented SD without significant differences between MTD e BUP groups. The majority of the subjects with SD have a poorer quality of intimate relationships and worse mental health than the average. To the best of our knowledge, the present study is the largest report on the presence of SDs in women as a side effects of MTD and BUP used in OMT. Since SDs cause difficulties in intimate relationships, lower patientsâ quality of life and interfere with OMT beneficial outcomes, we recommend that women undertaking an opioid therapy have routine screening for SD and we highlight the importance to better examine opioid-endocrine interactions in future studies in order to provide alternative potential treatments such as the choice of opioid, opioid dose reduction and hormone supplementation
