    Get PDF
This paper’s main objective is to examine distributed leadership’s current conceptualisation in existing research through a critical literature review and identify distributed leadership challenges, attributes, and benefits through qualitative interviews. The methodology adopts the primary research design approach to answer the four main research questions systematically. The research design is based on virtual interviews involving 41 general managers working in Dubai’s tourism sector. These respondents were asked about their distributed leadership perceptions, challenges, benefits, and attributes in their sector. The research study concludes that adopting organisational attributes is likely to create several benefits for the hotels that operate in the hospitality sector. The study recommends implementing a detailed plan which allows involvement in the formulation of critical decisions. <br/

    Distributed leadership: systematic literature review

    No full text
Distributed leadership is relatively new approach in the field of leadership. Consequently, detailed research outside academic or educational sector is not available as of yet. Leithwood et al. (2009) further defined distributed leadership framework as a planful alignment in which guidance, resources and roles are assigned to the individuals or groups that are effectively placed to accomplish a function or task. In this paper an overview of distributed leadership is presented by conducting strategic literature review which allows us to demarcate certain attributes of distributed leadership. Four themes of distributed leadership are identified by the systematic literature review, which include, behavioural perspective, context perspective, benefits and attributes, and performance perspective. Light is thrown upon the benefits and challenges of distributed leadership at the end of this paper

Distributed leadership in the tourism industry

    No full text
The concept of distributed leadership has been quickly adopted in the 21st century by diverse scholars and practitioners (Beirne, 2017). Distributed leadership has been used interchangeably with terms such as shared leadership, team leadership, participative leadership and democratic leadership by some researchers. This approach has been given little attention outside the education sector. The little research done in the tourism sector is inclined to views from western nations and America. None of these studies has examined the views of experienced people from Asia in particular. This research is to investigate distributed leadership in Dubai’s tourism industry by applying the qualitative research method. The tourism industry has experienced a shift from its trait-based concept to the approach-based concept. Furthermore, improvements in the undertaking of this research are considered and displayed

Synchronous endometrial adenocarcinoma and carcinosarcoma in endometrial polyp

    No full text
Introduction: Carcinosarcoma is a rare gynecological malignancy and it usually follows an aggressive clinical course. Rarely, it can be confined to an endometrial polyp or be synchronous with another gynecological malignancy. Herein, we report a rare case of synchronous carcinosarcoma confined to an endometrial polyp and endometrioid endometrial adenocarcinoma arising from a distinct uterine wall site. Case presentation: A 57-year-old female patient presented with heavy vaginal bleeding. She underwent hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy for endometrioid endometrial adenocarcinoma that was diagnosed preoperatively through dilation and curettage. Full histopathological examination of the uterine specimen revealed carcinosarcoma confined to a 4 cm endometrial polyp in addition to a stage IA endometrioid endometrial adenocarcinoma which arose from a distinct uterine wall. Conclusion: Having an endometrioid endometrial cancer diagnosis preoperatively through dilation and curettage and at examination of the frozen section specimen following surgical resection should not preclude the standard full histopathological examination of the uterine specimen, since this could reveal an additional uterine malignancy, such as carcinosarcoma. Such a finding would alter the post-operative management, prognosis, and outcome even if it is confined to an endometrial polyp
