Aproximaciones críticas a los modos institucionales de intervención a las prácticas ciudadanas en el centro histórico de Xalapa, Veracruz, México

This article explores the notion of historical center and its implications on the main models of institutional intervention, against the emergence of citizenship practices and ways of living builders of city heritage. Taking the city of Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico as a reference, the study emphasizes the epistemic forms that arise from relating the idea of heritage, with those of public space, habitability and sustainability, to inscribe there the question about architecture and its project process. If it is in the urban area where the risks and contradictions of the global economy are most reflected, and it is the city where new  ethics and community spaces take place, the questions that motivate this investigation are how shall the project practice be conceived today? What are its theoretical and epistemological implications and what are its strategies for the preservation of local and global patrimonial environments? En este artículo se explora la noción de centro histórico y sus implicaciones en los principales modelos y prácticas de intervención institucional, frente a la emergencia de prácticas ciudadanas y formas de habitar que son también constructoras de patrimonialidad y de ciudad. Tomando como referente la ciudad de Xalapa, Veracruz, México, el estudio pone énfasis en las formas epistémicas que surgen de relacionar la idea de patrimonio con las de espacio público, habitabilidad y sostenibilidad, para inscribir allí la pregunta por la arquitectura y su proceso proyectual. Si es en lo urbano donde más se reflejan los riesgos y contradicciones de la economía global, y es la ciudad donde nuevas éticas y espacios comunitarios tienen lugar ¿cómo concebir hoy la práctica proyectual? ¿Cuáles serían sus implicaciones teóricas y epistemológicas y cuáles sus estrategias para la preservación de entornos patrimoniales locales y globales? Estas preguntas motivan la investigación.

Research, teaching and social engagement for the meaningful learning of architecture

This article outlines the process and results of an experience of teaching/learning architecture in México. The purpose was to explore new learning scenarios in the context of the crisis in this profession and in a world where the human being is considered as the subject and object of sustainable development. The project was carried out in the town of Xico, Veracruz, and was organized with research, teaching and social engagement as basic premises, and habitability and sustainability as transverse themes. The data were obtained by observing the site and exploring the collective imaginary using participatory strategies. The learning obtained by the co-participants university, society and local government, showed the strengths of collaborative work as a necessary link for the permanence and development of the profession, and university training and education as a collective construction of society.Este artículo expone el proceso y los resultados de una experiencia de enseñanza/aprendizaje de la arquitectura. El propósito fue explorar nuevos escenarios de aprendizaje en el contexto de la crisis de la profesión y de considerar al ser humano, objeto y sujeto del desarrollo sostenible. El proyecto de intervención se estructuró tomando como ejes rectores la investigación, la docencia y la vinculación social, y como ejes transversales la habitabilidad y la sostenibilidad. Los datos se obtuvieron de la observación del sitio y de la exploración de los imaginarios colectivos, a través de estrategias participativas. El aprendizaje obtenido por los co-partícipes: universidad, sociedad y gobierno local, mostró las fortalezas del trabajo colaborativo como un vínculo necesario para la permanencia y desarrollo de la profesión, de la formación universitaria y de la educación como una construcción colectiva de la sociedad
