Evangelization in the era of religious indifference

    Get PDF
Spreading the gospel of Christ is a duty of the Church at all times and it pertains to every Christian. The ways and forms of the implementation of this obligation are conditioned by the needs and life circumstances of the people of a given time and culture. Thus we constantly need to examine these signs of the times, so that we may select the most appropriate content and methods of evangelization. These social conditions at times almost force us to revise the current methods and search for new ways of reaching the people of a given era. In all that, on one hand we need to remember the full heritage of faith, and on the other hand we need to pass it on in a way that is clear and convincing. This work, theological and moral in its scope, is an attempt at shedding some light on the circumstances of cultural and religious life specific to our contemporaries, namely on their religious and moral indifference, as well as an attempt at showing the duty to evangelize and the forms of proclaiming Jesus in these circumstances.Uniwersytet w Białymstoku19-3

    Personalistic standard of bioethics

    Get PDF
Ks. Józef ZabielskiA fundamental assumption of a personalistic concept of bioethics is respecting a person as a goal of an action, not a mean to achieve it. This concept comes down to a truth that value and dignity of a person is the basis of every ethical obligations towards a human being. Such understanding of dignity leads to concrete obligations, such as respecting the autonomy of human existence and the value of life, an obligation to act ‘within the field of responsibility’, respecting the good of concrete persons and human society. Such a personalistic norm is particularly meaningful for all actions relating to man’s health and life. The problem signalled in the title of the article has been discussed with particular regard to two issues 1) a personalistic norm as an axiologicalexistential determiner of bioethics, 2) personalistic demands/requirements concerning human health and life.Uniwersytet Kardynała Stefana Wyszyńskiego w Warszawi

The involvement of Catholics in the life of a lay community presents tchem with various opportunities and obligates them to a concern for shaping worthy life circumstances for every individual. This is especially vital in the social and political life, particularly with in democracy understood as the manifestation of the will of the community. Today these duties are performed as a pluralistic dialog, in which the Christian faith and values should constitute a crucial point of reference. The social teaching of the Church based on the Word of God can not be ignored in discovering and explicating the rules of life of contemporary people. Moreover, due to God's authority present in it, it should be considered before any merely human arguments - a fact most often rejected by the advocates of the lay vision of running a society. Lay Catholics play a unique and irreplaceable role in these tasks of the Church. This analytical reflection discusses three ways of Catholic participation in building responsible structures of social life: 1. The Christians' "being" in the world in the biblical and historical perspective; 2. Serving the man as the measure of the ethics of social life; 3. Ways and forms of the Catholics' involvement in shaping the structures of social life.Uniwersytet w Białymstoku131-14

Biblical axiology of Christian social life

    Get PDF
Ks. Józef ZabielskiChristians‘ social life is based on values that are the moral foundations for an individual. Respecting these norms is what makes Christian communities different from other ones and what shapes their way of thinking and activities. These values are rooted in Jesus Christ as their main source and the personal centre of Christianity. This system of norms comes from the Bible, especially from the New Testament. The author focuses on a theological and moral characteristics of biblical axiology of Christian social life, especially on: 1) Love as the foundation of the social unity of the ‘human world‘, 2) Freedom as a prescriptive value of human existence, 3) Truth as the unifying centre of human existence, 4) Peace and joy as characteristic aspects of Christian life.Uniwersytet w Białymstok
