Comment on ``A new efficient method for calculating perturbative energies using functions which are not square integrable'': regularization and justification
The method recently proposed by Skala and Cizek for calculating perturbation
energies in a strict sense is ambiguous because it is expressed as a ratio of
two quantities which are separately divergent. Even though this ratio comes out
finite and gives the correct perturbation energies, the calculational process
must be regularized to be justified. We examine one possible method of
regularization and show that the proposed method gives traditional quantum
mechanics results.Comment: 6 pages in REVTeX, no figure
Self-cleaning and antibiofouling enamel surface by slippery liquid-infused technique.
We aimed to create a slippery liquid-infused enamel surface with antibiofouling property to prevent dental biofilm/plaque formation. First, a micro/nanoporous enamel surface was obtained by 37% phosphoric acid etching. The surface was then functionalized by hydrophobic low-surface energy heptadecafluoro-1,1,2,2-tetra- hydrodecyltrichlorosilane. Subsequent infusion of fluorocarbon lubricants (Fluorinert FC-70) into the polyfluoroalkyl-silanized rough surface resulted in an enamel surface with slippery liquid-infused porous surface (SLIPS). The results of water contact angle measurement, diffuse-reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and atomic force microscope confirmed that the SLIPS was successfully constructed on the enamel surface. The antibiofouling property of the SLIPS was evaluated by the adsorption of salivary protein of mucin and Streptococcus mutans in vitro, as well as dental biofilm formation using a rabbit model in vivo. The results showed that the SLIPS on the enamel surface significantly inhibited mucin adhesion and S. mutans biofilm formation in vitro, and inhibited dental plaque formation in vivo.published_or_final_versio
Biological roles of crop NADP-malic enzymes and molecular mechanisms involved in abiotic stress
The abiotic stress tolerance of plants is very important for plant growth, development, survival and functional performance. NADP-ME is one of the most important enzymes in plants. Studying the role that NADP-malic enzyme plays in many metabolisms may help researchers improve the plant abiotic tolerance. The studies on NADP-ME in plants focus on its activity under different stresses. The regulation of NADP-ME gene expression in transgenic plants and the mechanism about abiotic stress resistance are less. In this paper, we reviewed the characteristics of the activity and genes expression of NADP-ME under drought, salt and temperature stresses. We also focused on the role of NADP-ME when it resists these varying stresses and the mechanism on how it performs.Key words: Plant NADP-malic enzyme, abiotic stress, gene expression, molecular mechanism
The numerical simulation of continuous Nd : YAG laser-annealing of InP
The semiconductor solid phase epitaxial model of continuous laser-annealing is used to simulate the laser-annealing process of different doping concentration of InP at the continuous Nd:YAG laser. Specially, quasi-static model is used to simulate the radial heat dissipation from radiant region to radiationless region. At the same time, thermal conductivity and optical absorption coefficient varied with temperature is also considered. The method of hidden-form different is used in solving one-dimensional, non-homogeneous, nonlinear partial differential equation of heat conduction. At the room temperature T-0=300K and the power intensity of laser I-0=800W/cm(2), the result is that the temperature of surface reaches about 1290K after 3.8sec

Direct generation of intense extreme ultraviolet supercontinuum with 35 fs, 11 mJ pulses from a femtosecond laser amplifier
We report on the generation of intense extreme ultraviolet (EUV)
supercontinuum with photon energies spanning from 35 eV to 50 eV (i. e.,
supporting an isolated attosecond pulse with a duration of ~271 as) by loosely
focusing 35 fs, 11 mJ pulses from a femtosecond laser amplifier into a 10-mm
long gas cell filled with krypton gas. The dramatic change of spectral and
temporal properties of the driver pulses after passing through the gas cell
indicates that propagation effects play a significant role in promoting the
generation of the EUV supercontinuum.Comment: 14 pages, 4 figure
Acute kidney disease and renal recovery : consensus report of the Acute Disease Quality Initiative (ADQI) 16 Workgroup
Consensus definitions have been reached for both acute kidney injury (AKI) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) and these definitions are now routinely used in research and clinical practice. The KDIGO guideline defines AKI as an abrupt decrease in kidney function occurring over 7 days or less, whereas CKD is defined by the persistence of kidney disease for a period of > 90 days. AKI and CKD are increasingly recognized as related entities and in some instances probably represent a continuum of the disease process. For patients in whom pathophysiologic processes are ongoing, the term acute kidney disease (AKD) has been proposed to define the course of disease after AKI; however, definitions of AKD and strategies for the management of patients with AKD are not currently available. In this consensus statement, the Acute Disease Quality Initiative (ADQI) proposes definitions, staging criteria for AKD, and strategies for the management of affected patients. We also make recommendations for areas of future research, which aim to improve understanding of the underlying processes and improve outcomes for patients with AKD
