    Get PDF
New technology, such as AI and Machine learning, grows fast and plays a crucial role in improving efficiency and reducing the repeated working load in our daily lives. In the Architecture and Engineering area, AI is widely used in generative design. Generative design is a design exploration process. The software explores all the possible permutations of a solution, quickly generating design alternatives. However, the problem is that the intelligence systems can generate thousands of solutions that difficult for users to distill. This situation even reduces the efficiency of the working flow. The project\u27s approach is to help users make better decision-making and find the best solution to get benefits from new technology. To solve the problem, I designed the iPad-based application named OiT - One in Thousands. OiT is an application focusing on better support, result evaluating, and data visualization for generative design, the target audience is the structural engineering and industrial designer working in the architecture and engineering area. The goal is to help users clearly define the design made by AI, efficiently ranking and picking the design options to support them better. This project presented an interactive interface and a mockup video showing how it benefits users to make better design decisions

An empirical study on coordinated development of energy consumption structure and green total factor productivity under spatial interaction

    Get PDF
Existing studies have found a non-linear relationship between the energy consumption structure (ECS) and the green total factor productivity (GTFP), but their influencing factors are not yet clear. This study examines the spatial impact of existing green development measures on coordinating the ECS and the GTFP using the coupling and spatial econometric models. The research findings are as follows: (1) The coordination between the ECS and the GTFP has increased over time, and the coordination is significantly higher in economically developed cities. (2) The spatial analysis results show a significant spatial auto-correlation between the ECS and the GTFP coordination. Green development approaches such as environmental regulations, technological innovations, and industrial structure significantly contribute to the degree of coordination. Decomposition of the spatial effects shows that technological innovations significantly affect local and neighbouring cities. These conclusions hold after endogeneity and robustness tests. The results suggest that local governments in city clusters should promote environmental regulations, industrial structure, and technological innovations to promote the coordinated development of the ECS and the GTFP of urban agglomeration

This paper studied a new type of network model; it is formed by the dynamic autonomy area, the structured source servers and the proxy servers. The new network model satisfies the dynamics within the autonomy area, where each node undertakes different tasks according to their different abilities, to ensure that each node has the load ability fit its own; it does not need to exchange information via the central servers, so it can carry out the efficient data transmission and routing search. According to the highly dynamics of the autonomy area, we established dynamic tree structure-proliferation system routing and resource-search algorithms and simulated these algorithms. Test results show the performance of the proposed network model and the algorithms are very stable. <br /

Low-voltage-driven and highly-diffractive holographic polymer dispersed liquid crystals with spherical morphology

It is a constant pursuit to form highly-diffractive and low-voltage-driven holographic polymer dispersed liquid crystals (HPDLCs) for meeting the requirements of practical applications. Nevertheless, the high-voltage-driven characteristic is usually given while improving the diffraction efficiency of HPDLCs, and it remains a challenge to form HPDLCs with concurrent features of high diffraction and low driving voltage via a simple method. In this work, we synthesize a non-room-temperature LC, 4-butyloxy-4′-cyanobiphenyl (4OCB), and mix it with a room-temperature nematic LC mixture named P0616A. These new LC mixtures are then homogeneously mixed with monomers and a photoinitibitor composed of 3,3′-carbonylbis(7-diethylaminocoumarin) (KCD) and N-phenylglycine (NPG), followed by patterning via laser interference, generating well-structured HPDLCs. The introduction of 4OCB into the standard formulation is found to be able to optimize the morphology and electro-optical properties of the resulting HPDLC transmission gratings. By doping 5 wt% of 4OCB into the HPDLCs, a high diffraction efficiency of 92 ± 3% is obtained; meanwhile, the threshold and saturated voltages significantly decrease by 80.8% (i.e., from 12.0 ± 0.8 to 2.3 ± 0.9 V μm−1) and 73.2% (i.e., from 19.0 ± 0.6 to 5.1 ± 0.7 V μm−1), respectively, in comparison with the pristine. The enhanced performance is believed to be ascribed to the formed larger LC droplets (70 ± 20 nm) and lower interface anchoring strength (0.7 μN m−1) of the polymer network on LCs

Research Progress on the Fish Complement C3 Gene

Complement (C) is a serum protein with immunity-related functions and enzymatic activities. It can induce inflammatory responses and antibody formation following activation by substances such as pathogens. Moreover, it is a crucial molecule in the congenital immune defense system. Complement manifests earlier than immunoglobulin in the evolutionary process of fish's immune system. Therefore, the complement system of fish is vital for congenital and acquired immunities. A complement system is a polymolecule system comprising more than 30 soluble proteins, membrane-bound proteins, and complement receptors. It can be activated through three pathways for immunoregulation, the clearance of the immune complex, etc. The liver primarily produces the fish complement C3, which is a significant component of the complement system of fishes. C3 is the hub of three activation pathways. Research works concerning the structure, generation process, expression, and functions of C3 in fishes are reviewed in this study

Objective This study was conducted to estimate the genetic parameters and breeding values of breast meat related traits of Pekin ducks. Selection response was also determined by using ultrasound breast muscle thickness (BMT) measurements in combination with bosom breadth (BB) and keel length (KL) values. Methods The traits analyzed were breast meat weight (BMW), body weight (BW), breast meat percentage (BMP) and the three parameters of breast meat (BB, KL, and BMT). These measurements were derived from studying 15,781 Pekin ducks selected from 10 generations based on breast meat weight. Genetic parameters and breeding value were estimated for the analysis of the breeding process. Results Estimated heritability of BMW and BMP were moderate (0.23 and 0.16, respectively), and heritability of BW was high (0.48). Other traits such as BB, KL, and BMT indicated moderate heritability ranging between 0.11 and 0.28. Significant phenotypic correlations of BMW with BW and BMP were discovered (p<0.05), and genetic correlations of BMW with BW and BMP were positive and high (0.83 and 0.66, respectively). It was noted that BMW had positive correlations with all the other traits. Generational average estimated breeding values of all traits increased substantially over the course of selection, which demonstrated that the ducks responded efficiently to increased breast meat yield after 10 generations of breeding. Conclusion The results indicated that duck BMW had the potential to be increased through genetic selection with positive effects on BW and BMP. The ultrasound BMT, in combination with the measurement of BB and KL, is shown to be essential and effective in the process of high breast meat yield duck breeding

Atypical radio pulsations from magnetar SGR 1935+2154

Magnetars are neutron stars with extremely strong magnetic fields, frequently powering high-energy activity in X-rays. Pulsed radio emission following some X-ray outbursts have been detected, albeit its physical origin is unclear. It has long been speculated that the origin of magnetars' radio signals is different from those from canonical pulsars, although convincing evidence is still lacking. Five months after magnetar SGR 1935+2154's X-ray outburst and its associated Fast Radio Burst (FRB) 20200428, a radio pulsar phase was discovered. Here we report the discovery of X-ray spectral hardening associated with the emergence of periodic radio pulsations from SGR 1935+2154 and a detailed analysis of the properties of the radio pulses. The complex radio pulse morphology, which contains both narrow-band emission and frequency drifts, has not been seen before in other magnetars, but is similar to those of repeating FRBs - even though the luminosities are many orders of magnitude different. The observations suggest that radio emission originates from the outer magnetosphere of the magnetar, and the surface heating due to the bombardment of inward-going particles from the radio emission region is responsible for the observed X-ray spectral hardening.Comment: 47 pages, 11 figure

The Influence of Incorporating Plastic within Concrete and the Potential Use of Microwave Curing; A Review

    Get PDF
In recent decades, researchers have used plastic to replace natural aggregates (NAs), or as filler and fibre within the concrete. This particular paper puts forward a review that gives comprehensive consideration to the properties and drawbacks, of concrete that contains plastic. As such, it may be hypothesised that poor bond capacity and higher air content due to inclusion of plastic aggregate (PA) within concrete are the predominant factors that reduce the properties in terms of mechanics and durability. In that regard, this study has put forward a new method of curing using microwave irradiation for improvement with respect to those factors. So, that there can be further improvement with regard to overall durability with respect to advanced chemical and hydrophobic resistivity and enhanced performance for conventional concrete with respect to bonding and ductility

Measurement of Urban Green Total Factor Productivity and Analysis of Its Temporal and Spatial Evolution in China

    No full text
This paper uses the Super SBM-DEA model and GML index method with undesirable output indicators to measure GTFP in 288 cities in China. Furthermore, we divide Chinese land into east, central, west, and northeast parts, and analyze their temporal and spatial evolution trends. It is shown that, firstly, China’s overall GTFP shows an upward fluctuating trend, in which green technical efficiency contributes more to the improvement of GTFP in Chinese cities, while green technological progress contributes less. Secondly, the urban GTFP in the eastern, central, western, and northeastern regions shows obvious differences, with the source of GTFP growth in the eastern region being mainly green technological progress, the source of growth in the central region being green efficiency improvement in the early stage and green technological progress in the later stage, while the source of growth in the western and northeastern regions is green efficiency improvement. Finally, combined with spatial distribution characteristic maps and kernel density estimation, GTFP shows spatial disequilibrium characteristics in China
