Empirical metallicity-dependent calibrations of effective temperature against colours for dwarfs and giants based on interferometric data

We present empirical metallicity-dependent calibrations of effective temperature against colours for dwarfs of luminosity classes IV and V and for giants of luminosity classes II and III, based on a collection from the literature of about two hundred nearby stars with direct effective temperature measurements of better than 2.5 per cent. The calibrations are valid for an effective temperature range 3,100 - 10,000 K for dwarfs of spectral types M5 to A0 and 3,100 - 5,700 K for giants of spectral types K5 to G5. A total of twenty-one colours for dwarfs and eighteen colours for giants of bands of four photometric systems, i.e. the Johnson (UBVRJIJJHKUBVR_{\rm J}I_{\rm J}JHK), the Cousins (RCICR_{\rm C}I_{\rm C}), the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS, grgr) and the Two Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS, JHKsJHK_{\rm s}), have been calibrated. Restricted by the metallicity range of the current sample, the calibrations are mainly applicable for disk stars ([Fe/H]1.0\,\gtrsim\,-1.0). The normalized percentage residuals of the calibrations are typically 2.0 and 1.5 per cent for dwarfs and giants, respectively. Some systematic discrepancies at various levels are found between the current scales and those available in the literature (e.g. those based on the infrared flux method IRFM or spectroscopy). Based on the current calibrations, we have re-determined the colours of the Sun. We have also investigated the systematic errors in effective temperatures yielded by the current on-going large scale low- to intermediate-resolution stellar spectroscopic surveys. We show that the calibration of colour (gKsg-K_{\rm s}) presented in the current work provides an invaluable tool for the estimation of stellar effective temperature for those on-going or upcoming surveys.Comment: 28 pages, 19 figures, 8 tables, accepted for publication in MNRA

Purpose: To elucidate the bioactive constituents of Asari radix et rhizoma (ARR) in treating migraine based on network pharmacology and nitroglycerin-induced migraine rat model. Methods: The potential bioactive constituents of ARR were identified with the aid of literature retrieval and virtual screening, and the migraine-related hub genes were identified using protein-protein interaction and topology analyses. Then, the interaction between the potential bioactive constituents and hub genes was determined with molecular docking and topology, leading to the prediction of the anti-migraine constituents of ARR. Moreover, a rat model of nitroglycerin-induced migraine was used to confirm the prediction by measuring the frequency of head-scratching and head-shaking behavior (FHHB) in the rats. In addition, levels of nitric oxide (NO) and calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) in blood, norepinephrine (NE) and 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) in brain were measured using appropriate commercial kits. Results: Network pharmacology revealed that naringenin-7-O-β-D-glucopyranoside and higenamine might be the key anti-migraine bioactive constituents of ARR. On addition of naringenin-7-O-β-D- glucopyranoside or higenamine to ARR, there was marked enhancement of the mitigating effect of ARR on nitroglycerin-induced abnormalities in levels of NO, CGRP, 5-HT and NE, as well as FHHB in rats (p < 0.05 or 0.01). Conclusion: These findings indicate that naringenin-7-O-β-D-glucopyranoside and higenamine might be the key bioactive and anti-migraine constituents of ARR. However, in addition to naringenin-7-O-β-D- glucopyranoside and higenamine, there were many other anti-migraine constituents in ARR. Therefore, there is need for further investigations on the actual contributions of these two constituents of ARR in treating migraine

Robust-MSA: Understanding the Impact of Modality Noise on Multimodal Sentiment Analysis

Improving model robustness against potential modality noise, as an essential step for adapting multimodal models to real-world applications, has received increasing attention among researchers. For Multimodal Sentiment Analysis (MSA), there is also a debate on whether multimodal models are more effective against noisy features than unimodal ones. Stressing on intuitive illustration and in-depth analysis of these concerns, we present Robust-MSA, an interactive platform that visualizes the impact of modality noise as well as simple defence methods to help researchers know better about how their models perform with imperfect real-world data.Comment: Accept by AAAI 2023. A Biodegradable Polyethylenimine-Based Vector Modified by Trifunctional Peptide R18 for Enhancing Gene Transfection Efficiency In Vivo

    Get PDF
Lack of capacity to cross the nucleus membrane seems to be one of the main reasons for the lower transfection efficiency of gene vectors observed in vivo study than in vitro. To solve this problem, a new non-viral gene vector was designed. First, a degradable polyethylenimine (PEI) derivate was synthesized by crosslinking low-molecular-weight (LMW) PEI with N-octyl-N-quaternary chitosan (OTMCS), and then adopting a designed trifunctional peptide (RGDC- TAT-NLS) with good tumor targeting, cell uptake and nucleus transport capabilities to modify OTMCS-PEI. The new gene vector was termed as OTMCS- PEI-R18 and characterized in terms of its chemical structure and biophysical parameters. Gene transfection efficiency and nucleus transport mechanism of this vector were also evaluated. The polymer showed controlled degradation and remarkable buffer capabilities with the particle size around 100–300 nm and the zeta potential ranged from 5 mV to 40 mV. Agraose gel electrophoresis showed that OTMCS-PEI-R18 could effectively condensed plasmid DNA at a ratio of 1.0. Besides, the polymer was stable in the presence of sodium heparin and could resist digestion by DNase I at a concentration of 63U DNase I/DNA. OTMCS-PEI-R18 also showed much lower cytotoxicity and better transfection rates compared to polymers OTMCS-PEI-R13, OTMCS-PEI and PEI 25 KDa in vitro and in vivo. Furthermore, OTMCS-PEI-R18/DNA complexes could accumulate in the nucleus well soon and not rely on mitosis absolutely due to the newly incorporated ligand peptide NLS with the specific nuclear delivery pathway indicating that the gene delivery system OTMCS-PEI-R18 could reinforce gene transfection efficiency in vivo

Neddylation inhibitor MLN4924 suppresses cilia formation by modulating AKT1

Abstract The primary cilium is a microtubule-based sensory organelle. The molecular mechanism that regulates ciliary dynamics remains elusive. Here, we report an unexpected finding that MLN4924, a small molecule inhibitor of NEDD8-activating enzyme (NAE), blocks primary ciliary formation by inhibiting synthesis/assembly and promoting disassembly. This is mainly mediated by MLN4924-induced phosphorylation of AKT1 at Ser473 under serum-starved, ciliary-promoting conditions. Indeed, pharmaceutical inhibition (by MK2206) or genetic depletion (via siRNA) of AKT1 rescues MLN4924 effect, indicating its causal role. Interestingly, pAKT1-Ser473 activity regulates both ciliary synthesis/assembly and disassembly in a MLN4924 dependent manner, whereas pAKT-Thr308 determines the ciliary length in MLN4924-independent but VHL-dependent manner. Finally, MLN4924 inhibits mouse hair regrowth, a process requires ciliogenesis. Collectively, our study demonstrates an unexpected role of a neddylation inhibitor in regulation of ciliogenesis via AKT1, and provides a proof-of-concept for potential utility of MLN4924 in the treatment of human diseases associated with abnormal ciliogenesis.https://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/148214/1/13238_2019_Article_614.pd
