Combined Partial Wave Analysis for the description of exclusive production
The production of p K+ {\Lambda} in elementary p + p collision was
investigated using the Bonn Gatchina Partial Wave Analysis framework. This
approach allows the determination of possible participating production wave
depending on the quantum numbers of the system. For the analysis seven data
samples, measured at different detectors and beam energies, were used.For the
extraction of the p{\Lambda} scattering length a cross check with established
methods is required. Furthermore the total cross section of the production
process is needed to be determined to extra cross section for the separate
waves. Both methods are described in this work.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure
The measurement of the pp->K+ n Sigma+ reaction near threshold
It is shown that a recent extraction of the total cross section for pp->K+ n
Sigma+ from inclusive K+ production data is in conflict with experimental data
on the exclusive pp->K+ p Lambda reaction. The result may be interpreted as an
upper bound which is not inconsistent with the much lower values that already
exist in the literature.Comment: Submitted to PL
Kaon pair production in proton-nucleus collisions at 2.83 GeV kinetic energy
The production of non-phi K+K- pairs by protons of 2.83 GeV kinetic energy on
C, Cu, Ag, and Au targets has been investigated using the COSY-ANKE magnetic
spectrometer. The K- momentum dependence of the differential cross section has
been measured at small angles over the 0.2--0.9 GeV/c range. The comparison of
the data with detailed model calculations indicates an attractive K- -nucleus
potential of about -60 MeV at normal nuclear matter density at a mean momentum
of 0.5 GeV/c. However, this approach has difficulty in reproducing the
smallness of the observed cross sections at low K- momenta.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, 1 tabl
Resonance-like coherent production of a pion pair in the reaction in the GeV region
The reaction was studied at 0.8-2.0 GeV proton
beam energies with the ANKE magnetic spectrometer at the COSY synchrotron
storage ring. The proton-deuteron pairs emerging with high momenta, 0.6-1.8
GeV/, were detected at small angles with respect to the proton beam.
Distribution over the reaction missing mass reveals a local enhancement
near the threshold of the pion pair production specific for the so-called ABC
effect. The enhancement has a structure of a narrow bump placed above a smooth
continuum. The invariant mass of the system in this enhancement
region exhibits a resonance-like peak at GeV/
with the width GeV/. A possible interpretation of

First measurements of spin correlations in the np -> d pi^0 reaction
The transverse spin correlations Axx and Ayy in the np-> d pi^0 reaction have
been measured for the first time in quasi-free kinematics at the COSY-ANKE
facility using a polarised deuteron beam incident on a polarised hydrogen cell
target. The results obtained for neutron energies close to 353 MeV and 600 MeV
are in good agreement with the partial wave analysis of data on the
isospin-related pp-> d pi^+ reaction, though the present results cover also the
small-angle region, which was largely absent from these data
Measurement of the analyzing powers in pd elastic and pn quasi-elastic scattering at small angles
The analyzing powers in proton-deuteron elastic and proton-neutron
quasi-elastic scattering have been measured at small angles using a polarized
proton beam at the COSY storage ring incident on an unpolarized deuterium
target. The data were taken at 796MeV and five higher energies from 1600MeV to
2400MeV. The analyzing power in pd elastic scattering was studied by detecting
the low energy recoil deuteron in telescopes placed symmetrically in the COSY
plane to the left and right of the beam whereas for pn quasi-elastic scattering
a low energy proton was registered in one of the telescopes in coincidence with
a fast scattered proton measured in the ANKE magnetic spectrometer. Though the
experiment explores new domains, the results are consistent with the limited

The energy dependence of the pp->K+ n Sigma+ reaction close to threshold
The production of the Sigma+ hyperon through the pp->K+nSigma+ reaction has
been investigated at four energies close to threshold, 1.826, 1.920, 1.958, and
2.020 GeV. At low energies, correlated K+pi+ pairs can only originate from
Sigma+ production so that their measurement allows the total cross section for
the reaction to be determined. The results obtained are completely consistent
with the values extracted from the study of the K+-proton correlation spectra
obtained in the same experiment. These spectra, as well as the inclusive K+
momentum distributions, also provide conservative upper limits on the Sigma+
production rates. The measurements show a Sigma+ production cross section that
varies roughly like phase space and, in particular, none of the three
experimental approaches used supports the anomalously high near-threshold
pp->K+ nSigma+ total cross section previously reported [T. Rozek et al., Phys.
Lett. B 643, 251 (2006)].Comment: Submitted to PR
Inclusive K^+ meson production in proton-nucleus interactions
The production of K^+ mesons in pA (A = D, C, Cu, Ag, Au) collisions has been
investigated at the COoler SYnchrotron COSY-J\"ulich for beam energies T_p =
1.0 - 2.3 GeV. Double differential inclusive pC cross sections at forward
angles theta < 12 degrees as well as the target-mass dependence of the K^+
momentum spectra have been measured with the ANKE spectrometer. Far below the
free NN threshold at T_{NN}=1.58 GeV the spectra reveal a high degree of
collectivity in the target nucleus. From the target-mass dependence of the
cross sections at higher energies, the repulsive in-medium potential of K^+
mesons can be deduced. Using pN cross-section parameterisations from literature
and our measured pD data we derive a cross-section ratio of sigma(pn -> K^+ X)
/ sigma(pp -> K^+ X) ~ (3-4).Comment: Accepted for publication in EPJ A; 17 pages, 10 figures, 11 table
Lineshape of the Lambda(1405) Hyperon Measured Through its Sigma0 pion0 Decay
The pp -> p K+ Y0 reaction has been studied for hyperon masses m(Y0)<1540
MeV/c2 at COSY-Juelich by using a 3.65 GeV/c circulating proton beam incident
on an internal hydrogen target. Final states comprising two protons, one
positively charged kaon and one negatively charged pion have been identified
with the ANKE spectrometer. Such configurations are sensitive to the production
of the ground state Lambda and Sigma0 hyperons as well as the Sigma0(1385) and
Lambda(1405) resonances. Applying invariant- and missing-mass techniques, the
two overlapping excited states could be well separated, though with limited
statistics. The shape and position of the Lambda(1405) distribution,
reconstructed cleanly in the Sigma0 pion0 channel, are similar to those found
from other decay modes and there is no obvious mass shift. This finding
constitutes a challenging test for models that predict Lambda(1405) to be a

New determination of the mass of the eta meson at COSY-ANKE
A value for the mass of the eta meson has been determined at the COSY-ANKE
facility through the measurement of a set of deuteron laboratory beam momenta
and associated 3He center-of-mass momenta in the d+p -> 3He+X reaction. The eta
was then identified by the missing-mass peak and the production threshold
determined. The individual beam momenta were fixed with a relative precision of
3 x 10^-5 for values around 3 GeV/c by using a polarized deuteron beam and
inducing an artificial depolarizing spin resonance, which occurs at a
well-defined frequency. The final-state momenta in the two-body d+p -> 3He+eta
reaction were investigated in detail by studying the size of the 3He momentum
ellipse with the forward detection system of the ANKE spectrometer. Final
alignment of the spectrometer for this high precision experiment was achieved
through a comprehensive study of the 3He final-state momenta as a function of
the center-of-mass angles, taking advantage of the full geometrical acceptance.
The value obtained for the mass, m(eta)=(547.873 +- 0.005(stat) +- 0.027(syst))
MeV/c^2, is consistent and competitive with other recent measurements, in which
