Now-a-days textiles are used in different sectors and various purposesbeyond imagination. Medical sector is one of them. An important andemerging part of the textile industry is medical, hygiene and health sector. The development is taking place due to the simultaneous expansion andimprovement of technology in both textile as well as medical sector. Thenumber of applications is huge and diverse, ranging from a single threadsuture to the complex composite structures for bone replacement and fromthe simple cleaning wipe to advanced barrier fabrics used in OperationTheater. The main object of this work is to study the types of medical textilesused in the medical sector, information on imported items and scope ofmanufacturing these items in Bangladesh. For this work we have visitedDhaka Medical College, Sir Salimullah Medical College, Uttara AdhunikMedical College and Hospital, BMA Bhaban Surgical Market. We havegathered very useful and vast knowledge about the term "Medical Textiles",as per our work and capability

Role of the Masjid in disaster management: preliminary investigation of evidences from Asia

    Get PDF
The Masjid (Mosque in English) has historically played a vital role in the spiritual, moral and social upliftment of the Muslim community. Nevertheless, the role of the masjid has remained largely undocumented, and unrecognised in the development and disaster studies. Although the role of the masjid in disaster situations in many Muslim countries is evident, very little study has been undertaken to document its role as a development agent. Hence, investigating the potential of the masjid in disaster situation is an effort to describe and explore the functions and roles of a mosque in responding to a disaster. It has been remarked that the masjid has the potential to play a role in disaster management in early warning systems, as an information centre, an evacuation site and even with contingency planning. The role of the masjid during emergency response has received appreciation from the victims and the community. However, the potential has not yet been fully explored. Therefore, the main purpose of this paper is to explore and document the role the masjid has played in disaster management in various Asian countries and based on it develop a model of the potential role, the mosque can play in building the community resilience for disaster management in the Muslim countries

In this work,1ร—1Rib,1ร—1Skeleton rib, 2ร—2English rib, 2ร—2Swiss rib, 6ร—3Derby rib were produced with 20/2 Ne and 32/2 Ne combed ring yarn and V-bed knitting machine of 14 Gauge. In addition, Wales per 3cm, Course per 3cm, Stitch density, Stitch length, Tightness factor, GSM, Dimensional Stability of fabric were tested. According to test result, Wales per 3cm, Stitch density, Cover factor, GSM of 1ร—1Rib were higher than the 1ร—1Skeleton rib;Wales per 3cm, Course per 3cm, Stitch density, Stitch length, Cover factor, Shrinkage%, extension% of 2ร—2English rib were higher than the 1ร—1Rib; Wales per 3cm, Stitch density, GSM, Shrinkage%, extension% of 2ร—2Swiss rib were higher than the 1ร—1Rib; in 6ร—3Derby Rib values of the properties were higher than other structure; shrinkage and extension percentage increase with the increase of needle drop in knitting

EFFECT OF SCOURING AND BLEACHING TREATMENT ON KNITTED COTTON FABRICS FOR ECONOMIC STUDY

Cotton is the leading fibre in Textile Industry. Cotton is still the "King" of fibers because most of the world's apparel is made of Cotton. Apart from its fairly good strength, it is considered to provide comfort due to good moisture absorption and wicking properties. It is estimated that approx. 20 million tons of Cotton is processed worldwide yearly. Unlike man made cellulosic fibers such as Rayon and Lyocell, Cotton must be properly prepared for Dyeing, printing and finishing. To prepare the cotton fabric ready for Dyeing, printing and finishing scouring & bleaching is the fundamental step. Scouring of cotton textiles is an essential treatment in textile wet processing in order to obtain a sufficiently hydrophilic fabric. During scouring, waxes and other hydrophobic materials are removed from the cotton fibers. cotton fibres are off-white in color due to having colour bodies with it and the process of destruction these colour bodies from fibres is known as bleaching. The problems involved in normal scouring & bleaching using H2O2 is requirement of higher amount of alkali that will result higher cost in Effluent Treatment Plant to remove the alkalinity, use of wetting agent, sequestering agent, detergent & stabilizer and also require acetic acid to neutral the fabric. The aim of our work is to reduce the amount of alkali that is used in scouring , no use of acetic acid after scouring for neutralization and use of single chemical in place of that is cost effective. To fulfill our aim we use Imerol Blue Liquid in place of wetting agent, sequestering agent, detergent & stabilizer that is supplied by Clairiant and compare the Imerol Blue process with classical scouring & bleaching process using stabilizer

Terry towel is one of the fast growing and challenging sub sector of the textile sector of Bangladesh. Bath robes, hand towel, kitchen towel etc. are the products from terry in one word. Demand of these products is increasing very fast globally and also significantly day by day in the local market. Consumers pay on an average $7 for bath towel and their households in America. In last decades, the importance of this sector has been increased enormously with the incremental global demand. As Bangladesh is one of the major terry products exporting country among the terry manufacturing countries of the world. This report covers a details study about terry towel including manufacturing process, classsification and physical properties export import volume of terry towel

Microbial lipid extraction from Lipomyces starkeyi using irreversible electroporation

    Get PDF
The aim of the study was to investigate the feasibility of using irreversible electroporation (EP) as a microbial cell disruption technique to extract intracellular lipid within short time and in an eco-friendly manner. An EP circuit was designed and fabricated to obtain 4 kV with frequency of 100 Hz of square waves. The yeast cells of Lipomyces starkeyi (L. starkeyi) were treated by EP for 2-10 min where the distance between electrodes was maintained at 2, 4, and 6 cm. Colony forming units (CFU) were counted to observe the cell viability under the high voltage electric field. The forces of the pulsing electric field caused significant damage to the cell wall of L. starkeyi and the disruption of microbial cells was visualized by field emission scanning electron microscopic (FESEM) image. After breaking the cell wall, lipid was extracted and measured to assess the efficiency of EP over other techniques. The extent of cell inactivation was up to 95% when the electrodes were placed at the distance of 2 cm, which provided high treatment intensity (36.7 kWh m ). At this condition, maximum lipid (63 mg g ) was extracted when the biomass was treated for 10 min. During the comparison, EP could extract 31.88% lipid while the amount was 11.89% for ultrasonic and 16.8% for Fenton's reagent. The results recommend that the EP is a promising technique for lowering the time and solvent usage for lipid extraction from microbial biomass. ยฉ 2018 American Institute of Chemical Engineers Biotechnol

    Get PDF
ย The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between alexithymia and career decision -making self-efficacy among Tenth and Eleventh grade students in Muscat governorate. To achieve this purpose,ย  Alexithymia Scale (AS),and CDMSE Short Form were administered to a total sample of 556 students of Tenth and Eleventh grades ( (n = 278) males and (n = 278) females . Findings revealed that the level of alexithymia was less than the mean of items, while the level of CDMSE was more than the mean of items, as well as there was no significant correlational relationship between alexithymia and CDMSE. The findings also indicated that there were significant gender differences in alexithymia, while there were no significant gender differences in CDMSE. With regard to GPA, the findings revealed that there were no significant differences in alexithymia, while there were significant differences in CDMSE. Conclusion: It concludes that although there was no significant correlational relationship between alexithymia and career decision-making self-efficacy, alexithymia negatively affects individualโ€™s decisions in life
