Final-Stage Site-Selective Acylation for the Total Syntheses of Multifidosides A-C.

Article first published online: 28 AUG 2015The first total syntheses of multifidosides A-C have been achieved. The synthetic strategy is characterized by catalytic site-selective acylation of unprotected glycoside precursors in the final stage of the synthesis. High functional-group tolerance of the site-selective acylation, promoted by an organocatalyst, enabled the conventionally difficult molecular transformation in a predictable and reliable manner. An advantage of this strategy is to avoid the risks of undesired side reactions during the removal of the protecting groups at the final stage of the total synthesis

Asymmetric desymmetrization of meso-diols by C(2)-symmetric chiral 4-pyrrolidinopyridines.

In this work we developed C(2)-symmetric chiral nucleophilic catalysts which possess a pyrrolidinopyridine framework as a catalytic site. Some of these organocatalysts effectively promoted asymmetric desymmetrization of meso-diols via enantioselective acylation

Numerical analyses of the nonequilibrium electron transport through the Kondo impurity beside the Toulouse point

Nonequilibrium electron transport through the Kondo impurity is investigated numerically for the system with twenty conduction-electron levels. The electron current under finite voltage drop is calculated in terms of the `conductance viewed as transmission' picture proposed by Landauer. Here, we take into account the full transmission processes of both the many-body correlation and the hybridization amplitude up to infinite order. Our results demonstrate, for instance, how the exact solution of the differential conductance by Schiller and Hershfield obtained at the Toulouse point becomes deformed by more realistic interactions. The differential-conductance-peak height is suppressed below e^2/h with the width hardly changed through reducing the Kondo coupling from the Toulouse point, whereas it is kept unchanged by further increase of the coupling. We calculated the nonequilibrium local Green function as well. This clarifies the spectral property of the Kondo impurity driven far from equilibrium

    Tsukuba 32-m VLBI Station

The Tsukuba 32-m VLBI station is operated by the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan. This report summarizes activities of the Tsukuba 32-m VLBI station in 2012. More than 200 sessions were observed with the Tsukuba 32-m and other GSI antennas in accordance with the IVS Master Schedule of 2012. We have started installing the observing facilities that will be fully compliant with VLBI2010 for the first time in Japan

Leptospirosis in Squirrels Imported from United States to Japan

We diagnosed leptospirosis in 2 patients exposed to southern flying squirrels imported from the United States to Japan. Patients worked with exotic animals in their company. Leptospira isolates from 1 patient and 5 of 10 squirrels at the company were genetically and serologically identical and were identified as Leptospira kirschneri
