This study aimed to obtain evidence about the effect of the audit committee charactersitic to bankin firms performance. The control variable used were Leverage. Banking firms performance is measured by ROA. The characteristics of the audit committee examined herein are the composition of independent audit committees (INDE) as measured by the proportion of independent audit committees, financial expertise (FE) measured by appropriate weight, audit committee meetings (TM) are measured by the number of meetings conducted by banking companies, Members with a risk-monitoring committee (PR) and a remuneration nomination committee (NR) are also measured with the proportion of related members. The population in this study are all banking companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2013. The data selection method used in this research is purposive sampling method. Total samples used in this study as many as 78 companies. Data analysis was performed with the classical assumption and hypothesis testing regression method. The results of this study indicate that there is an insignificant relationship between the composition of the independent audit committee and the firms’s performance. This means that the audit committee's independence level has no effect on the firms’s performance. Similarly, audit committee meetings have no significant relationship with the performance of banking companies. In addition, this study indicates a significantly negative correlation between the linkage of the audit committee and the risk monitoring committee. The results of this study also indicate that the audit committee's financial expertise and the integrity of the audit committee with the remuneration nomination committee have an effect on the firms's performance

Primary malignant melanoma of the nose: an unusual presentation

Mucosal malignant melanoma of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses is a rare entity. It is an unusual cause of nasal obstruction and epistaxis seen especially in elderly. We report the case of a primary nasal malignant melanoma in a 32 year old woman who presented with the history of epistaxis for 1 month. In our knowledge, this is the first case of primary nasal malignant melanoma to be reported in this age group

Solid pseudopapillary neoplasm of pancreas: a rare presentation

Pancreatic neoplasms are rare in children and have a different histo-logic spectrum and prognosis than those in adults. Pancreatoblastoma is the most common pancreatic neoplasm in young children. Solid pseudopapillary neoplasm occurs in adolescent girls. It is heterogeneous in internal architecture, with a mixture of solid and cystic hemorrhagic and necrotic elements. All pancreatic neoplasms in children are capable of producing metastases, usually to the liver and lymph nodes; however, on the whole, these tumors have a better clinical outcome than most pancreatic tumors in adults. We present a case of solid pseudopapillary neoplasm with a liver metastasis in a 13 year old male patient

Enhanced Relative Comparison of Traditional Sorting Approaches towards Optimization of New Hybrid Two-in-One (OHTO) Novel Sorting Technique

In the world of computer technology, sorting is an operation on a data set that involves ordering it in an increasing or decreasing fashion according to some linear relationship among the data items. With the rise in the generation of big data, the concept of big numbers has come into existence. When the number of records to be sorted is limited to thousands, traditional sorting approaches can be used; in such cases, complexities in their execution time can be ignored. However, in the case of big data, where processing times for billions or trillions of records are very long, time complexity is very significant. Therefore, an optimized sorting technique with efficient time complexity is very much required. Hence, in this paper an optimized sorting technique is proposed, named Optimized Hybrid Two-in-One Novel Sorting Technique (OHTO, a mixed approach of the Insertion Sort technique and the Bubble Sort technique. The proposed sorting technique uses the procedure of both Bubble Sort and Insertion Sort, resulting in fewer comparisons, fewer data movements, fewer data insertions, and less time complexity for any given input data set compared to existing sorting techniques

Ding, ShanshanAdvancement in next-generation sequencing, transcriptomics, proteomics andother high-throughput technologies has enabled to simultaneously measure multipletypes of genomic data for cancer samples. These data may reveal new biological in-sights as compared to analyzing one single genome type. This study proposes a newintegrative supervised dimension reduction method, called integrative sliced inverseregression (integrative SIR), for simultaneous analysis of multiple omics data types ofcancer samples, including MiRNA, MRNA and proteomics, to improve prediction andinterpretation. The proposed method can reduce the dimensions of multiple omics datasimultaneously while sharing common latent structures without losing any informationin prediction. By capturing common information across data types, the new methoddemonstrates advantages over conventional methods. In this work, we classify differenttumor types like CNS, leukemia and melanoma using dimension reduction methods.M.S.University of Delaware, Program in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology

Isolation, Characterization and Comparative Study of Lactobacillus Sp. using FTIR Based Statistical Analysis

There are different types of Lactobacilli found in milk. Lactobacilli have antimicrobial activity. In this experiment we try to characterize the lactobacilli found in different sources. For characterization we have used various lactobacilli sources such as Benny Buttermilk, Aavin curd and Ranipet curd, all of which are locally available. Lactobacillus strain Lactobacillus MTCC 2997 and probiotic drinks Bifilac and Darolac were also used as lactobacilli sources. Gram staining and other biochemical tests like Voges Proskauer Test, Methyl Red Test, Citrate Utilization Test, Catalase Test, as per their standard procedures were performed. Fourier-transformation infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was applied to characterize Lactobacillus from different sources at the genus and species level. Similarity matrices, cluster analysis and correlation plots were made to compare how similar 2 strains of isolated Lactobacillus sp. are over the entire FTIR range of wavenumbers are. The scatter plot and similarity matrix shows strong positive correlation of 0.966 between Lactobacillus sp. isolated from Benny buttermilk and that of Ranipet curd hence these two strains have a very similar lactic acid production rate. ANOVA tables and curve estimation was done to compare each isolated strain with MTCC 2997. During this analysis it was obtained that, Lactobacillus MTCC 2997 and Lactobacillus sp. isolated from Bifilac were 94.6% similar. When Hierarchical Cluster Analysis was performed, the dendogram also depicted that Lactobacillus MTCC 2997 and Lactobacillus sp. isolated from Bifilac were closely related .The importance of this method is that it states the amount of similarity between the organisms using statistical analysis. Based on this similarity percentage, measured in terms of Pearson correlation, we can predict the strain type, differentiate up to the sub species level, which was not possible with biochemical characterization
