    A simulation model for the functional response of Orius sauteri on eggplant leaves with Thrips palmi: Implications for biological control.

    The predation capability of the anthocorid predatory bug Orius sauteri (Poppius) determines its effectiveness for suppressing Thrips palmi Karny on greenhouse eggplants. For quantifying the daily impact of one predator on its prey, we use its patch leaving behaviour on eggplant leaves with different prey numbers and scale up to the larger spatiotemporal scale of the greenhouse and one foraging day, using literature data on the distribution of T. palmi over eggplant leaves. The simulation result is a type-II functional response of O. sauteri as function of average T. palmi density: around the economic injury level of T. palmi, i.e., 0.55 individuals per leaf, O. sauteri can find and eat approximately 10 prey per day. The sensitivity analysis showed that the baseline leaving tendency, the presence of and the encounter rate with prey have a relatively large effect on the daily mean number of prey eaten per O. sauteri predator, i.e., its predation capability

    Coadjoint orbits for the group SO(6) parametrize Riemannian G-reductions in six dimensions, and we use this correspondence to interpret symplectic fibrations between these orbits, and to analyse moment polytopes associated to the standard Hamiltonian torus action on the coadjoint orbits.     Routh's procedure for non-Abelian symmetry groups

    We extend Routh's reduction procedure to an arbitrary Lagrangian system (that is, one whose Lagrangian is not necessarily the difference of kinetic and potential energies) with a symmetry group which is not necessarily Abelian. To do so we analyse the restriction of the Euler-Lagrange field to a level set of momentum in velocity phase space. We present a new method of analysis based on the use of quasi-velocities.     Field-angle-dependent specific heat measurements and gap determination of a heavy fermion superconductor URu2Si2

    To identify the superconducting gap structure in URu2Si2 we perform field-angle-dependent specific heat measurements for the two principal orientations in addition to field rotations, and theoretical analysis based on microscopic calculations. The Sommerfeld coefficient \gamma(H)'s in the mixed state exhibit distinctively different field-dependence. This comes from point nodes and substantial Pauli paramagnetic effect of URu2Si2. These two features combined give rise to a consistent picture of superconducting properties, including a possible first order transition of Hc2 at low temperatures.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures, to appear in Phys.     Autonomous three dimensional Newtonian systems which admit Lie and Noether point symmetries

    We determine the autonomous three dimensional Newtonian systems which admit Lie point symmetries and the three dimensional autonomous Newtonian Hamiltonian systems, which admit Noether point symmetries. We apply the results in order to determine the two dimensional Hamiltonian dynamical systems which move in a space of constant non-vanishing curvature and are integrable via Noether point symmetries.     On transversally elliptic operators and the quantization of manifolds with ff-structure

    An ff-structure on a manifold MM is an endomorphism field \phi\in\Gamma(M,\End(TM)) such that ϕ3+ϕ=0\phi^3+\phi=0. Any ff-structure ϕ\phi determines an almost CR structure E_{1,0}\subset T_\C M given by the +i+i-eigenbundle of ϕ\phi. Using a compatible metric gg and connection \nabla on MM, we construct an odd first-order differential operator DD, acting on sections of §=ΛE0,1\S=\Lambda E_{0,1}^*, whose principal symbol is of the type considered in arXiv:0810.0338. In the special case of a CR-integrable almost §\S-structure, we show that when \nabla is the generalized Tanaka-Webster connection of Lotta and Pastore, the operator DD is given by D = \sqrt{2}(\dbbar+\dbbar^*), where \dbbar is the tangential Cauchy-Riemann operator. We then describe two "quantizations" of manifolds with ff-structure that reduce to familiar methods in symplectic geometry in the case that ϕ\phi is a compatible almost complex structure, and to the contact quantization defined in \cite{F4} when ϕ\phi comes from a contact metric structure. The first is an index-theoretic approach involving the operator DD; for certain group actions DD will be transversally elliptic, and using the results in arXiv:0810.0338, we can give a Riemann-Roch type formula for its index. The second approach uses an analogue of the polarized sections of a prequantum line bundle, with a CR structure playing the role of a complex polarization.Comment: 31 page

    Deformation Quantization of Almost Kahler Models and Lagrange-Finsler Spaces

    Finsler and Lagrange spaces can be equivalently represented as almost Kahler manifolds enabled with a metric compatible canonical distinguished connection structure generalizing the Levi Civita connection. The goal of this paper is to perform a natural Fedosov-type deformation quantization of such geometries.
