A Study on the Translation Methods of Medical Terms in Diagnosis and Treatment Protocol for COVID-19 (Trial Version 7)

    Get PDF
This paper aims to figure out the translation methods of the terms used in Diagnosis and Treatment Protocol for COVID-19 (Trial Version 7). By comparing the Chinese and English versions of the officially published article and probing into the translation of some mentioned term names, the translation methods of these terms in Diagnosis and Treatment Protocol for COVID-19 (Trial Version 7) are divided into three types, a) transliteration; b) free translation; c) combination of literal translation and free translation. It could be found that the combined utilization of these three translation methods makes terms more understandable for foreigners who are interested in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), especially during the period of COVID-19 epidemic. The result suggests that more efforts should be put into the field of TCM translation and expanding the international influence of TCM.

Employment of Reduplicated Words in E-C Translation of Childrenā€™s Literature: A Case Study of Ren Rongrongā€™s Translation of The Wind in the Willows

This thesis is to explore the application of reduplicated words in Chinese translation of childrenā€™s literature. It selects Ren Rongrongā€™s translation of The Wind in the Willows to conduct research. First, data collection and analysis of reduplicated words in the text are carried out. Then, from the three effects of reduplicated words, rhythmical effect, imaging effect, and emotional effect, the corresponding sentences in Ren Rongrongā€™s translation of The Wind in the Willows are selected and analyzed. Finally, it is concluded that reduplicated words are widely used in the English-Chinese translation of childrenā€™s literature. In the process of English-Chinese translation, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, nouns, quantifiers, numerals and onomatopoeia can be translated into reduplicated words when necessary. On the one hand, it can add language charm and make the translation more vivid, and on the other hand, it is easy for children to accept.

The Impact of Platform Social Responsibility on Consumer Trust

    Get PDF
The concept of social responsibility has been widely applied incorporates business philosophy to gain the trust of consumers. With the rise of two-side platforms, platforms have popped up the limelight along with the hot topic of the sharing economy. Despite this, we do not know much about the underlying mechanisms of consumer trust. A questionnaire survey was conducted with 263 consumers from China to explore the consequences of platform social responsibility on consumer trust. The results demonstrate that the implementation of social responsibility by platforms significantly increases consumer trust. Additionally, consumer confusion plays a mediating effect, and platform network externality plays a moderating role. Briefly, the platform does not play a dominant role in regulating supply and demand as we might think since the consciousness of consumer groups is rising. Their autonomy to collect information and make decisions after perception cannot be ignored. The study shows that sharing economy platforms should take their social responsibilities into consideration, rather than taking them as a subsidiary role. Platforms should see consumer trust as a key end rather than a means to promote profits

The Future of ChatGPT-enabled Labor Market: A Preliminary Study

As a phenomenal large language model, ChatGPT has achieved unparalleled success in various real-world tasks and increasingly plays an important role in our daily lives and work. However, extensive concerns are also raised about the potential ethical issues, especially about whether ChatGPT-like artificial general intelligence (AGI) will replace human jobs. To this end, in this paper, we introduce a preliminary data-driven study on the future of ChatGPT-enabled labor market from the view of Human-AI Symbiosis instead of Human-AI Confrontation. To be specific, we first conduct an in-depth analysis of large-scale job posting data in BOSS Zhipin, the largest online recruitment platform in China. The results indicate that about 28% of occupations in the current labor market require ChatGPT-related skills. Furthermore, based on a large-scale occupation-centered knowledge graph, we develop a semantic information enhanced collaborative filtering algorithm to predict the future occupation-skill relations in the labor market. As a result, we find that additional 45% occupations in the future will require ChatGPT-related skills. In particular, industries related to technology, products, and operations are expected to have higher proficiency requirements for ChatGPT-related skills, while the manufacturing, services, education, and health science related industries will have lower requirements for ChatGPT-related skills

Hepatitis C virus screening was conducted among 8,226 residents 25ā€“65 years of age in 4 counties of China; virus prevalence was 0.9%. A subsequent caseā€“control study indicated blood transfusion (odds ratio [OR] 4.55), esophageal balloon examination (OR 3.78), and intravenous injection (OR 5.83) were associated with infection

Modulation of the Meridional Structures of the Indo-Pacific Warm Pool on the Response of the Hadley Circulation to Tropical SST

    Get PDF
By decomposing the variations of the Hadley circulation (HC) and tropical zonal-mean sea surface temperature (SST) into the equatorially asymmetric (HEA for HC, SEA for SST) and symmetric (HES for HC, SES for SST) components, the varying response of the HC to different SST meridional structures under warm and cold conditions of the Indo-Pacific warm pool (IPWP) is investigated over the period 1979ā€“2016. The response of the HC to SST evidences an asymmetric variation between warm and cold IPWP conditions; that is, the response ratio of HEA to SEA relative to that of HES to SES is ~5 under warm conditions and ~2 under cold conditions. This asymmetry is primarily due to a decrease in the HEA-to-SEA ratio under cold IPWP conditions, and is driven by changes in the meridional distribution of SST anomalies. Equatorial asymmetric (symmetric) SST anomalies are dominated by warm (cold) IPWP conditions. Thus, variations of SEA are suppressed under cold IPWP conditions, contributing to the observed weakening of the HEA-to-SEA ratio. The results presented here indicate that the HC is more sensitive to the underlying SST when the IPWP is warmer, during which the variation of SEA is enhanced, suggesting a recent strengthening of the response of the HC to SST, as the IPWP has warmed over the past several decades, and highlighting the importance of the IPWP meridional structures rather than the overall warming of the HC

PMP-Swin: Multi-Scale Patch Message Passing Swin Transformer for Retinal Disease Classification

Retinal disease is one of the primary causes of visual impairment, and early diagnosis is essential for preventing further deterioration. Nowadays, many works have explored Transformers for diagnosing diseases due to their strong visual representation capabilities. However, retinal diseases exhibit milder forms and often present with overlapping signs, which pose great difficulties for accurate multi-class classification. Therefore, we propose a new framework named Multi-Scale Patch Message Passing Swin Transformer for multi-class retinal disease classification. Specifically, we design a Patch Message Passing (PMP) module based on the Message Passing mechanism to establish global interaction for pathological semantic features and to exploit the subtle differences further between different diseases. Moreover, considering the various scale of pathological features we integrate multiple PMP modules for different patch sizes. For evaluation, we have constructed a new dataset, named OPTOS dataset, consisting of 1,033 high-resolution fundus images photographed by Optos camera and conducted comprehensive experiments to validate the efficacy of our proposed method. And the results on both the public dataset and our dataset demonstrate that our method achieves remarkable performance compared to state-of-the-art methods.Comment: 9 pages, 7 figure
