Design, characteristics, and performance tests of short two dimensional curved wall diffusers using suction slot
Breaking a secure communication scheme based on the phase synchronization of chaotic systems
A security analysis of a recently proposed secure communication scheme based
on the phase synchronization of chaotic systems is presented. It is shown that
the system parameters directly determine the ciphertext waveform, hence it can
be readily broken by parameter estimation of the ciphertext signal.Comment: 4 pages, 6 figure
Glassiness and constrained dynamics of a short-range non-disordered spin model
We study the low temperature dynamics of a two dimensional short-range spin
system with uniform ferromagnetic interactions, which displays glassiness at
low temperatures despite the absence of disorder or frustration. The model has
a dual description in terms of free defects subject to dynamical constraints,
and is an explicit realization of the ``hierarchically constrained dynamics''
scenario for glassy systems. We give a number of exact results for the statics
of the model, and study in detail the dynamical behaviour of one-time and
two-time quantities. We also consider the role played by the configurational
entropy, which can be computed exactly, in the relation between fluctuations
and response.Comment: 10 pages, 9 figures; minor changes, references adde
Measurement of the Dynamical Structure Factor of a 1D Interacting Fermi Gas
We present measurements of the dynamical structure factor of an
interacting one-dimensional (1D) Fermi gas for small excitation energies. We
use the two lowest hyperfine levels of the Li atom to form a
pseudo-spin-1/2 system whose s-wave interactions are tunable via a Feshbach
resonance. The atoms are confined to 1D by a two-dimensional optical lattice.
Bragg spectroscopy is used to measure a response of the gas to density
("charge") mode excitations at a momentum and frequency . The
spectrum is obtained by varying , while the angle between two laser
beams determines , which is fixed to be less than the Fermi momentum
. The measurements agree well with Tomonaga-Luttinger theory
Relational reasoning via probabilistic coupling
Probabilistic coupling is a powerful tool for analyzing pairs of
probabilistic processes. Roughly, coupling two processes requires finding an
appropriate witness process that models both processes in the same probability
space. Couplings are powerful tools proving properties about the relation
between two processes, include reasoning about convergence of distributions and
stochastic dominance---a probabilistic version of a monotonicity property.
While the mathematical definition of coupling looks rather complex and
cumbersome to manipulate, we show that the relational program logic pRHL---the
logic underlying the EasyCrypt cryptographic proof assistant---already
internalizes a generalization of probabilistic coupling. With this insight,
constructing couplings is no harder than constructing logical proofs. We
demonstrate how to express and verify classic examples of couplings in pRHL,
and we mechanically verify several couplings in EasyCrypt
Prefix-Projection Global Constraint for Sequential Pattern Mining
Sequential pattern mining under constraints is a challenging data mining
task. Many efficient ad hoc methods have been developed for mining sequential
patterns, but they are all suffering from a lack of genericity. Recent works
have investigated Constraint Programming (CP) methods, but they are not still
effective because of their encoding. In this paper, we propose a global
constraint based on the projected databases principle which remedies to this
drawback. Experiments show that our approach clearly outperforms CP approaches
and competes well with ad hoc methods on large datasets
