Family Gauge Boson Production at the LHC

Get PDF
Family gauge boson production at the LHC is investigated according to a U(3)U(3) family gauge model with twisted family number assignment. In the model we study, a family gauge boson with the lowest mass, A1 1A_1^{\ 1}, interacts only with the first generation leptons and the third generation quarks. (The family numbers are assigned, for example, as (e1,e2,e3)=(e,μ,τ)(e_1, e_2, e_3)= (e^-, \mu^-, \tau^-) and (d1,d2,d3)=(b,d,s)(d_1, d_2, d_3)=(b, d, s) [or (d1,d2,d3)=(b,s,d)(d_1, d_2, d_3)=(b, s, d)]). In the model, the family gauge coupling constant is fixed by relating to the electroweak gauge coupling constant. Thus measurements of production cross sections and branching ratios of A1 1A_1^{\ 1} clearly confirm or rule out the model. We calculate the cross sections of inclusive A1 1A_1^{\ 1} production and bbˉ(ttˉ)b \bar{b} \, (t \bar{t}) associated A1 1A_1^{\ 1} production at s=14 TeV\sqrt{s} = 14~\text{TeV} and 100 TeV100~\text{TeV}. With the dielectron production cross section, we discuss the determination of diagonalizing matrix of quark mass matrix, UuU_{u} and UdU_{d}, respectively.Comment: 14 pages, 6 figure

Transient ischemia due to a decrease in vertebrobasilar insufficiency (VBI) induces the hypoxia of vestibular nucleus (VN) and frequently cause vertigo. Furthermore, it is occasionally experienced that dizziness continues in the long term after strong rotatory vertigo in VBI. Since glutamate is thought to play an important role in the neurotransmission of VN, this study was undertaken to examine the effect of hypoxia on the VN neuron and the role of the glutamate in the hypoxia induced neuronal activities using electrophysiological and microiontophoretic technique. Cats anesthetized with α-chloralose were ventilated with a respirator. A silver recording microelectrode was inserted into the VN and the spontaneous firing of the neurons was continuously recorded on an ink-writing recorder through a spike counter. Micropipettes attached along the microelectrode were used for microiontophoretic application of 6,7-Dinitroquinoxaline-2,3-dione (DNQX), non-NMDA receptor antagonist and (+) 5-methyl-l0,l1-dihydro-5H-dibenzo(a,d) cyclohepten- 5,10-imine (MK801), NMDA receptor antagonist. The spontaneous firing in VN neurons increased transiently and then decreased, resulting in the disappearance in firings during 3 minutes inhalation of 5%O2. However, the firings appeared again and persistently increased after the cessation of 5%O2. Transient increase of the firing during hypoxia and persistent increase after the cessation of hypoxia were herein termed Hypoxic Depolarization (HD) and Post Hypoxic Potentiation (PHP), respectively. HD was significantly (P<0.01) suppressed by DNQX and MK801. Since HD was suppressed by glutamate receptor antagonist, HD was assumed to be caused by excessive glutamate released from presynaptic terminals in the VN neurons. HD correlated significantly with PHP (R=0.609, p<0.01). We indicate that enhancement of PHP was the change of glutamate receptor-mediated synaptic plasticity caused by HD in the VN neurons. In conclusion, it is suggested that HD and PHP shown in this electrophysiological study might imply possible mechanism underlying the onset of acute vertigo and persistent dizziness in VBI.博士(医学)・乙1332号・平成26年3月17

Cytokines and Chemokines in Neuropsychiatric Syndromes of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

Get PDF
Neuropsychiatric syndromes of systemic lupus erythematosus (NPSLE) is a life-threatening disorder and early diagnosis and proper treatment are critical in the management of this neuropsychiatric manifestations in lupus. Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), electroencephalogram (EEG), neuropsychological tests, and lumbar puncture are clinical used for the diagnosis of NPSLE. In addition to these tests, cytokine and chemokine levels in CSF have been reported as useful diagnostic marker of NPSLE. Based on the number of recently published studies, this review overviewed the roles of cytokines and chemokines in NPSLE

The nature of chemical bonds of ruthenium(Ru)-quinine(Q) complexes, mononuclear [Ru(trpy)(3, 5-t-Bu(2)Q)(OH(2))](ClO(4))(2) (trpy = 2, 2('):6('), 2('')-terpyridine, 3, 5-di-tert-butyl-1, 2-benzoquinone) (1), and binuclear [Ru(2)(btpyan)(3, 6-di-Bu(2)Q)(2)(OH(2))](2+) (btpyan = 1, 8-bis(2, 2('):6('), 2('')-terpyrid-4(')-yl)anthracene, 3, 6-t-Bu(2)Q = 3, 6-di-tert-butyl-1, 2-benzoquinone) (2), has been investigated by broken-symmetry (BS) hybrid density functional (DFT) methods. BS DFT computations for the Ru complexes have elucidated that the closed-shell structure (2b) Ru(II)-Q complex is less stable than the open-shell structure (2bb) consisting of Ru(III) and semiquinone (SQ) radical fragments. These computations have also elucidated eight different electronic and spin structures of tetraradical intermediates that may be generated in the course of water splitting reaction. The Heisenberg spin Hamiltonian model for these species has been derived to elucidate six different effective exchange interactions (J) for four spin systems. Six J values have been determined using total energies of the eight (or seven) BS solutions for different spin configurations. The natural orbital analyses of these BS DFT solutions have also been performed in order to obtain natural orbitals and their occupation numbers, which are useful for the lucid understanding of the nature of chemical bonds of the Ru complexes. Implications of the computational results are discussed in relation to the proposed reaction mechanisms of water splitting reaction in artificial photosynthesis systems and the similarity between artificial and native water splitting systems

Three-dimensional localization and mapping for mobile robot in disaster environments

To relieve damages of earthquake disaster, "The Special Project for Earthquake Disaster Mitigation in Urban Areas" have been kicked off in Japan. Our research group is a part of the sub-project "modeling of disaster environment for search and rescue" since 2002. In this project, our group aims to develop a three-dimensional mapping's algorithm that is installed in a mobile robot to search victims in a collapsed building. To realize this mission, it is important to map environment information, and also the mapping requires localization simultaneously. (This is called "SLAM problem".) In this research, we use three-dimensional map by laser range finder, and we also estimate its location in a global map using correlation technique. In this paper, we introduce our localization and mapping method, and we report a result of preparatory experiment for localization. </p

Superconducting LaGe5 was synthesized by the reaction of La and Ge mixtures under a pressure of 5 GPa at 1200°C. It crystallized in the orthorhombic space group Immm (No. 71) with a=4.0290(6), b =6.307(1), and c=9.978(2) Å, V=253.54(6) Å3, and Z=2. Single-crystal studies revealed that LaGe5 had a germanium network with tunnels running along the a axis, where La atoms are located. There are two crystallographically different Ge sites in the structure La[(Gel)4(Ge2)1]. The tunnel network is composed of folded sp3-Gel layers coupled by eight coordinated Ge2 atoms. Electrical resistivity and magnetic-susceptibility measurements showed that the compound was a type-II superconductor with a transition temperature of 7.0 K
