In a global society like ours where the perception of quality influences greatly the purchasing decisions of customers, organisations that seek to achieve global competitiveness and financial growth must as a matter of urgency, adopt business strategies that guarantee maximum performance excellence in quality and customer satisfaction. Although the operations management literature explicitly highlights business strategies with such prospects, Total Quality Management undoubtedly stands tall among the rest. Previous studies on the topic have however reported conflicting and ambiguous results regarding the effect of TQM implementation on operational performance. This study is therefore aimed at investigating the possibility of a statistical relationship between TQM practices (as captured in the Baldrige Excellence Framework) and the operational performance of manufacturing firms through the meta-analytical review of 21 studies published between 1997 and 2017. The study sample, obtained through a rigorous literature search of both online and offline databases, was subjected to a specific but extensive inclusion/exclusion criteria purposely designed for this analysis. Guided by the Hunter & Schmidt (2004) meta-analysis of correlation approach, the results of the study reveal a strong and positive relationship between aggregate TQM practices and operational performance. Furthermore, with the exception of Strategic planning that is non-significant and Customer focus that has a medium effect on operational performance, the other TQM constructs (Top Management Leadership, Information & Analysis, Human Resource Management and Process Management) are all positively related to operational performance. The test of heterogeneity also indicates that almost all the tested hypotheses were greatly influenced by the moderating variables; Firm size, Industry type, and Geographical location

This study commenced by pointing out the lacuna that exists in stylistic and literary criticism and advocated for a balanced study in the areas of ‘what’ and ‘how’ in literary studies. The aim of this study which is the analysis of humour and caricature in Adichie’s Purple Hibiscus was stated and one of the objectives of the study is to find out how the devices of humour and caricature can develop the themes of the novel. Tendency humour and caricature were propounded as frameworks for the analysis of humour and caricature in Adichie’s Purple Hibiscus. They were applied in the analysis of the sampled passages from the novel on humour and caricature. Some of the findings of the study are: Hmour and caricature constitute elements that authenticate a work of art as an artistic and a literary work. They as well endow a literary work with the quality that makes it serve a corrective purpose

Subcutaneous Sarcoidosis in a Nigerian female

    Get PDF
Sarcoidosis is relatively uncommon in indigenous black Africans, especially along the West African coast. There has not been any report of isolated cutaneous sarcoidosis from our center. We present a patient who was reviewed with an isolated ganglion-like subcutaneous swelling on the ankle region. Excision biopsy revealed a non caseating granulomatous lesion. Systemic evaluation was not remarkable and the lesion was negative for tuberculosis and fungi. The operative wound healed with the use of of a combination therapy with oral chloroquine, prednisolone, and methotrexate. We conclude that cutenous sarcoidosis can occur in the absence of systemic disease and definitive diagnosis is by histological finding of a non caseating granuloma, when other potential causes such as tuberculosis are excluded

Mastering the roles of all aspects of an organization is contingent on job rotation. This paper focused on the impact of Job Rotation and Performance on higher educational institutions. The study used stratified sampling technique, quantitative approach, and descriptive design for primary data collection and analysis by SPSS. The outcome of the research confirmed that, job rotation impacts on organizational performance. The aspects that led to the performance were: removal of job stress, employee retention, increase expertise, applying experience on the job amongst others. The performance was measured by the efficiency, productivity, quality, but rejected profitability as a measure in higher educational institutions. It was concluded that job rotation impacts positively but favourably with organizational performance. Keywords: Job Rotation, Performance, Tamale Technical University, Higher Educational Institution

The evolution of Smart Grid flings fresh applications and opportunities to enhance the efficiency of power distribution networks. Network operators have the opportunity to make use of different sources of power. Communication between the network operators and the consumersis constantly permitted to allow optimization and balancing of energy usage. This paper seeks to evaluate the state of the Ghanaian Electric Distribution Network with respect to Smart Grid. We evaluate the performance of the traditional distribution network since its partial incorporation with the Smart Grid elements. The operations of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, the Automated Meter Infrastructure and Circuit Breakers are specifically addressed. Road map to optimizing the distribution network in Ghana is presented. It is concluded that optimizing these key elements will transform the role of the distribution system and ensure a safe and reliable power network.©2020 IJAREEIE.fi=vertaisarvioimaton|en=nonPeerReviewed

Proposed algorithm for smart grid DDoS detection based on deep learning

    Get PDF
The Smart Grid’s objective is to increase the electric grid’s dependability, security, and efficiency through extensive digital information and control technology deployment. As a result, it is necessary to apply real-time analysis and state estimation-based techniques to ensure efficient controls are implemented correctly. These systems are vulnerable to cyber-attacks, posing significant risks to the Smart Grid’s overall availability due to their reliance on communication technology. Therefore, effective intrusion detection algorithms are required to mitigate such attacks. In dealing with these uncertainties, we propose a hybrid deep learning algorithm that focuses on Distributed Denial of Service attacks on the communication infrastructure of the Smart Grid. The proposed algorithm is hybridized by the Convolutional Neural Network and the Gated Recurrent Unit algorithms. Simulations are done using a benchmark cyber security dataset of the Canadian Institute of Cybersecurity Intrusion Detection System. According to the simulation results, the proposed algorithm outperforms the current intrusion detection algorithms, with an overall accuracy rate of 99.7%.© 2022 The Author(s). Abstract Population ageing has been identified as one of the most potential crises across the globe that requires urgent attention.  One of the most crucial issues related to this development is the issue of the quality life of older adults. The study describes a spiritual practice among elderly women that has stood the test of time, referred to as Jeedo. The study uses participatory research methods and data was analyzed using thematic analysis. Findings revealed that, the Jeedo has been practiced for over two hundred as system of spiritual devotion and getting closer to Allah (SWT) in preparation for death. The practice has eventually expanded into a formidable network of elderly women who are devoted to the service of the society and mutual help within them. It is recommended that, with empowerment sensitization and change of attitude the Jeedo can be modelled across the eastern Nigeria and beyond.        Â

Man became conscious of whom he was when he took  sedimentary life. The consciousness led to the need to cover his body either from nakedness, to look beautiful or in response to the harsh weather; and to keep the body warm. This began with the use of leaves to animal skins then to the weaving and production of fabric for clothing. Though no one can said when clothing or textiles began in the world and in Nupeland in particular, no doubt it has a fair long history and has undergone changes overtime. It is in the light of this that using historical methodology of both  primary and secondary sources, the paper investigate textile industry in Nupeland. Using content analysis, the paper concluded that the industry in Nupeland had benefitted from the technology and skills of neighbouring communities before it became  synonymous with the Nupe. The industry has also declined due to modern production
