A Magnetic Transition Probed by the Ce Ion in Square-Lattice Antiferromagnet CeMnAsO
We examined the magnetic properties of the square-lattice antiferromagnets
CeMnAsO and LaMnAsO and their solid solutions La1-xCexMnAsO by resistivity,
magnetic susceptibility, and heat capacity measurements below room temperature.
A first-order phase transition is observed at 34.1 K, below which the
ground-state doublet of the Ce ion splits by 3.53 meV. It is likely that Mn
moments already ordered above room temperature are reoriented at the
transition, as reported for related compounds, such as NdMnAsO and PrMnSbO.
This transition generates a large internal magnetic field at the Ce site in
spite of the fact that simple Heisenberg interactions should be cancelled out
at the Ce site owing to geometrical frustration. The transition takes place at
nearly the same temperature with the substitution of La for Ce up to 90%. The
Ce moment does not undergo long-range order by itself, but is parasitically
induced at the transition, serving as a good probe for detecting the magnetism

First-principles study of electron transport through cages
Electron transport properties of C molecules suspended between gold
electrodes are investigated using first-principles calculations. Our study
reveals that the conductances are quite sensitive to the number of C
molecules between electrodes: the conductances of C monomers are near 1
G, while those of dimers are markedly smaller, since incident electrons
easily pass the C molecules and are predominantly scattered at the
C-C junctions. Moreover, we find both channel currents locally
circulating the outermost carbon atoms.Comment: 8 pages and 3 figure
Dynamical Properties of One-Dimensional Multicomponent Quantum Liquids in Metallic Phase
We investigate low-energy dynamical properties of one-dimensional
multicomponent quantum liquids with the short-range interaction as well as the
-type long-range interaction. By calculating the single-particle spectrum
and the dynamical spin susceptibility by means of the bosonization method, we
discuss how the orbital degeneracy and the band splitting affect the dynamical
response functions. The effect of the long-range interaction is also addressed.
Although the long-range interaction suppresses charge fluctuations, it
effectively enhances spin fluctuations via the formation of the Wigner crystal.Comment: 17 pages, 8 figure
Production in Two-Photon Processes at TRISTAN
We have carried out an inclusive measurement of production
in two-photon processes at TRISTAN. The mean was 58 GeV and the
integrated luminosity was 199 pb. High-statistics samples were
obtained under such conditions as no-, anti-electron, and remnant-jet tags. The
remnant-jet tag, in particular, allowed us, for the first time, to measure the
cross sections separately for the resolved-photon and direct processes.Comment: 20 pages, Latex format, 4 figures and KEK-mark included. Table 1

Search for the decay
We performed a search for the decay with the
E391a detector at KEK. In the data accumulated in 2005, no event was observed
in the signal region. Based on the assumption of
proceeding via parity-violation, we obtained the single event sensitivity to be
, and set an upper limit on the branching ratio to
be at the 90% confidence level. This is a factor of 3.2
improvement compared to the previous results. The results of proceeding via parity-conservation were also presented in this paper
Electron spin resonance in high-field critical phase of gapped spin chains
Motivated by recent experiments on Ni(C_{2}H_{8}N_{2})_{2}Ni(CN)_{4}
(commonly known as NENC), we study the electron spin resonance in the critical
high-field phase of the antiferromagnetic S=1 chain with strong planar
anisotropy and show that the ESR spectra exhibit several peculiarities in the
critical phase. Possible relevance of those results for other gapped spin

Experimental study of the decay
The first dedicated search for the rare neutral-kaon decay
has been carried out in the E391a experiment at the
KEK 12-GeV proton synchrotron. The final upper limit of 2.6 at

Measurement of inclusive electron cross section in collisions at TRISTAN
We have studied open charm production in collisions with the
TOPAZ detector at the TRISTAN collider. In this study, charm
quarks were identified by electrons (and positrons) from semi-leptonic decays
of charmed hadrons. The data corresponded to an integrated luminosity of 95.3
pb at a center-of-mass energy of 58 GeV. The results are presented as
the cross sections of inclusive electron production in
collisions with an anti-tag condition, as well as the subprocess cross
sections, which correspond to resolved-photon processes. The latter were
measured by using a sub-sample with remnant jets. A comparison with various
theoretical predictions based on direct and resolved-photon processes showed
that our data prefer that with relatively large gluon contents in a photon at
small , with the next-to-leading order correction, and with a
charm-quark mass of 1.3 GeV.Comment: 26 pages, Latex format (article), 5 figures included, to be published
