    Tiene el propósito de visibilizar y reconocer las diferencias y los retos a los que se enfrenta esta población. Para ello, se consideraron variables como sexo, edad, lugar de residencia, auto identificación étnica, condición de pobreza y condición de discapacidad. En ese sentido, se ha dispuesto la información procesada en seis (6) capítulos que desarrollan las materias de demografía, educación, empleo, salud, violencia y participación, en los que se abordan problemáticas como la migración rural-urbana, la dificultad en la obtención de un empleo decente, el efecto de la educación superior para acreditar competencias laborales; la tasa de embarazo adolescente, la cobertura de seguro de salud, las enfermedades crónicas, las principales afecciones a la salud, los altos niveles de victimización, jóvenes como víctimas y victimarios, la salud mental, la violencia, entre otros. Asimismo, contiene información acerca de la participación política de los jóvenes, al cierre del ejercicio del año 2018

    Traditional and new strategies in the primary prevention of eating disorders: a comparative study in Spanish adolescents

Consequently, there is a need to develop new methods that go a step further, promoting a change in attitudes and behavior in the target population.Objective: This study describes an adaptation of the Girls’ Group model to the Spanish context, the main objective being to compare two types of intervention, ie, one based on this model and the other following the traditional approach of providing information. The ultimate aim was to implement a prevention program that reduces the risk factors and boosts the protection factors that have been empirically shown to be related to ED.Methods: On the basis of previous research on the primary prevention of ED, and taking into account recognized risk and protective factors, the following topics were addressed: nutritional aspects; self-esteem; coping strategies; the ideal image of what is attractive and role of the media; and body image. The total sample (174 girls and 197 boys) was divided into 12 work groups, six for the intervention group (one school) and six for the control group (two schools). School-based input (intervention group) was provided by a pharmacist, a psychologist, a qualified nutritionist/dietician, and specialist support staff (psychologists and/or educators) and teachers of the three schools.Results: Participation in the intervention group reduced body dissatisfaction (F = 13.41; P < 0.01), the drive to thinness (F = 10.79; P < 0.01), and the influence of the media with respect to the esthetic body shape model (F = 13.90; P < 0.01), while self-esteem (F = 7.34; P < 0.01) and the use of coping strategies (F = 13.74; P < 0.01) both improved. There was also an improvement in the eating habits of participants, with better outcomes being achieved when intervening with females.Conclusions: The present study shows that in the primary prevention of eating disorders, better outcomes are achieved by new models which target the attitudes and behavior of adolescents rather than focusing solely on the provision of risk information to raise awareness.Keywords: coping strategies, adolescence, primary prevention, eating disorders, positive psycholog

    Angioma esplénico de células litorales

    A 62-year-old man with a medical history of a painful abdominal mass in left upper quadrant and general symptoms, who was classified initially as an unresectable sarcoma. He received chemotherapy and radiotherapy with no response, so he underwent a new surgery, finding a heterogeneous tumor with immunohistochemical consistent with littoral cell angioma. Littoral cell angioma (LCA) is a rare splenic lesion that presents general symptoms, so there are not many reports, which requires surgical management. Is usually an asymptomatic neoplasm of incidental finding, affecting both sexes equally, whose diagnosis is histological and immunohistochemical with a good prognosis always after a surgical approach.Presentamos el caso de un paciente varón de 62 años con masa dolorosa en hipocondrio izquierdo catalogado inicialmente como sarcoma irresecable, recibió quimioterapia y radioterapia sin respuesta, motivo por el cual se reintervino quirúrgicamente hallándose un tumor dependiente de bazo heterogéneo con perfil inmunohistoquímico de angioma de células litorales. El angioma de células litorales (ACL) es una lesión esplénica poco frecuente que se presenta asociado a síntomas genéricos como astenia, dolor regional y baja de peso, que requiere como manejo principal un abordaje quirúrgico. Suele ser una neoplasia asintomática de hallazgo incidental, afecta a ambos sexos por igual, cuyo diagnóstico es básicamente histológico e inmunohistoquímico con buen pronóstico luego de un abordaje quirúrgico inicial

    Global Stability of Infectious Disease Models Using Lyapunov Functions

    Two systematic methods are presented to guide the construction of Lyapunov functions for general infectious disease models and are thus applicable to establish their global dynamics. Specifically, a matrix-theoretic method using the Perron eigenvector is applied to prove the global stability of the disease-free equilibrium, while a graph-theoretic method based on Kirchhoff\u27s matrix tree theorem and two new combinatorial identities are used to prove the global stability of the endemic equilibrium. Several disease models in the literature and two new cholera models are used to demonstrate the applications of these methods

    Enhancement of carotenoids biosynthesis in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii by nuclear transformation using a phytoene synthase gene isolated from Chlorella zofingiensis

    The isolation and characterization of the phytoene synthase gene from the green microalga Chlorella zofingiensis (CzPSY), involved in the first step of the carotenoids biosynthetic pathway, have been performed. CzPSY gene encodes a polypeptide of 420 amino acids. A single copy of CzPSY has been found in C. zofingiensis by Southern blot analysis. Heterologous genetic complementation in Escherichia coli showed the ability of the predicted protein to catalyze the condensation of two molecules of geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate (GGPP) to form phytoene. Phylogenetic analysis has shown that the deduced protein forms a cluster with the rest of the phytoene synthases (PSY) of the chlorophycean microalgae studied, being very closely related to PSY of plants. This new isolated gene has been adequately inserted in a vector and expressed in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. The overexpression of CzPSY in C. reinhardtii, by nuclear transformation, has led to an increase in the corresponding CzPSY transcript level as well as in the content of the carotenoids violaxanthin and lutein which were 2.0- and 2.2-fold higher than in untransformed cells. This is an example of manipulation of the carotenogenic pathway in eukaryotic microalgae, which can open up the possibility of enhancing the productivity of commercial carotenoids by molecular engineering

    All-particle cosmic ray energy spectrum measured by the HAWC experiment from 10 to 500 TeV

    We report on the measurement of the all-particle cosmic ray energy spectrum with the High Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC) Observatory in the energy range 10 to 500 TeV. HAWC is a ground based air-shower array deployed on the slopes of Volcan Sierra Negra in the state of Puebla, Mexico, and is sensitive to gamma rays and cosmic rays at TeV energies. The data used in this work were taken from 234 days between June 2016 to February 2017. The primary cosmic-ray energy is determined with a maximum likelihood approach using the particle density as a function of distance to the shower core. Introducing quality cuts to isolate events with shower cores landing on the array, the reconstructed energy distribution is unfolded iteratively. The measured all-particle spectrum is consistent with a broken power law with an index of 2.49±0.01-2.49\pm0.01 prior to a break at (45.7±0.1(45.7\pm0.1) TeV, followed by an index of 2.71±0.01-2.71\pm0.01. The spectrum also respresents a single measurement that spans the energy range between direct detection and ground based experiments. As a verification of the detector response, the energy scale and angular resolution are validated by observation of the cosmic ray Moon shadow's dependence on energy.Comment: 16 pages, 11 figures, 4 tables, submission to Physical Review

    Constraining the pˉ/p\bar{p}/p Ratio in TeV Cosmic Rays with Observations of the Moon Shadow by HAWC

    An indirect measurement of the antiproton flux in cosmic rays is possible as the particles undergo deflection by the geomagnetic field. This effect can be measured by studying the deficit in the flux, or shadow, created by the Moon as it absorbs cosmic rays that are headed towards the Earth. The shadow is displaced from the actual position of the Moon due to geomagnetic deflection, which is a function of the energy and charge of the cosmic rays. The displacement provides a natural tool for momentum/charge discrimination that can be used to study the composition of cosmic rays. Using 33 months of data comprising more than 80 billion cosmic rays measured by the High Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC) observatory, we have analyzed the Moon shadow to search for TeV antiprotons in cosmic rays. We present our first upper limits on the pˉ/p\bar{p}/p fraction, which in the absence of any direct measurements, provide the tightest available constraints of 1%\sim1\% on the antiproton fraction for energies between 1 and 10 TeV.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures.
