Does export dependency hurt economic development? Empirical evidence from Singapore
A rapid export growth in East Asia was once identified as a source of the sustainable economic development that the region enjoyed. However, the current global recession has turned exports from an economic virtue to a vice. There is a growing awareness that a heavy reliance on exports has caused a serious economic downturn in the region. The present paper chooses Singapore as a case study to examine the relationship between the origin of the East Asian Miracle (i.e. export dependency) and the economic growth. For this purpose, the study employs a causality test developed by Toda and Yamamoto. The empirical findings indicate that despite a negative long-run relationship between export dependency and economic growth, Singapore's heavy reliance on exports does not seem to have produced negative effects on the nation's economic growth. This is because the increase in export dependency was an effect, and not a cause, of the country's output expansion.
Representations of hom-Lie algebras

Strict detector-efficiency bounds for n-site Clauser-Horne inequalities
An analysis of detector-efficiency in many-site Clauser-Horne inequalities is
presented, for the case of perfect visibility. It is shown that there is a
violation of the presented n-site Clauser-Horne inequalities if and only if the
efficiency is greater than n/(2n-1). Thus, for a two-site two-setting
experiment there are no quantum-mechanical predictions that violate local
realism unless the efficiency is greater than 2/3. Secondly, there are n-site
experiments for which the quantum-mechanical predictions violate local realism

Parity independence of the zero-bias conductance peak in a nanowire based topological superconductor-quantum dot hybrid device
We explore the signatures of Majorana fermions in a nanowire based
topological superconductor-quantum dot-topological superconductor hybrid device
by charge transport measurements. The device is made from an epitaxially grown
InSb nanowire with two superconductor Nb contacts on a Si/SiO substrate. At
low temperatures, a quantum dot is formed in the segment of the InSb nanowire
between the two Nb contacts and the two Nb contacted segments of the InSb
nanowire show superconductivity due to the proximity effect. At zero magnetic
field, well defined Coulomb diamonds and the Kondo effect are observed in the
charge stability diagram measurements in the Coulomb blockade regime of the
quantum dot. Under the application of a finite, sufficiently strong magnetic
field, a zero-bias conductance peak structure is observed in the same Coulomb
blockade regime. It is found that the zero-bias conductance peak is present in
many consecutive Coulomb diamonds, irrespective of the even-odd parity of the
quasi-particle occupation number in the quantum dot. In addition, we find that
the zero-bias conductance peak is in most cases accompanied by two differential
conductance peaks, forming a triple-peak structure, and the separation between
the two side peaks in bias voltage shows oscillations closely correlated to the
background Coulomb conductance oscillations of the device. The observed
zero-bias conductance peak and the associated triple-peak structure are in line
with the signatures of Majorana fermion physics in a nanowire based topological
superconductor-quantum dot-topological superconductor system, in which the two
Majorana bound states adjacent to the quantum dot are hybridized into a pair of
quasi-particle states with finite energies and the other two Majorana bound
states remain as the zero-energy modes located at the two ends of the entire

Simulation approach to reliability analysis of WAMPAC system
© 2015 IEEE.Wide are monitoring, protection and control (WAMPAC) plays a critical role in smart grid development. Since WAMPAC frequently has the tasks of executing control and protection actions necessary for secure operation of power systems, its reliability is essential. This paper proposes a novel approach to the reliability analysis of WAMPAC systems. WAMPAC system functions are first divided into four subsystems: the measured inputs, the communication, the actuator and the analytic execution subsystems. The reliability indices of the subsystems are computed then using Monte Carlo approach. A sensitivity analysis is also described to illustrate the influence of different components on the system reliability
A low-frequency study of recently identified double-double radio galaxies
In order to understand the possible mechanisms of recurrent jet activity in
radio galaxies and quasars, which are still unclear, we have identified such
sources with a large range of linear sizes (220 917 kpc), and hence time
scales of episodic activity. Here we present high-sensitivity 607-MHz Giant
Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) images of 21 possible double-double radio
galaxies (DDRGs) identified from the FIRST survey to confirm their episodic
nature. These GMRT observations show that none of the inner compact components
suspected to be hot-spots of the inner doubles are cores having a flat radio
spectrum, confirming the episodic nature of these radio sources. We have
indentified a new DDRG with a candidate quasar, and have estimated the upper
spectral age limits for eight sources which showed marginal evidence of
steepening at higher frequencies. The estimated age limits (11 52 Myr) are
smaller than those of the large-sized ( 1 Mpc) DDRGs.Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRAS. 14 pages, 7 figure
Testing for Multipartite Quantum Nonlocality Using Functional Bell Inequalities
We show that arbitrary functions of continuous variables, e.g. position and
momentum, can be used to generate tests that distinguish quantum theory from
local hidden variable theories. By optimising these functions, we obtain more
robust violations of local causality than obtained previously. We analytically
calculate the optimal function and include the effect of nonideal detectors and
noise, revealing that optimized functional inequalities are resistant to
standard forms of decoherence. These inequalities could allow a loophole-free
Bell test with efficient homodyne detection
Noncyclic Pancharatnam phase for mixed state SU(2) evolution in neutron polarimetry
We have measured the Pancharatnam relative phase for spin-1/2 states. In a
neutron polarimetry experiment the minima and maxima of intensity modulations,
giving the Pancharatnam phase, were determined. We have also considered general
SU(2) evolution for mixed states. The results are in good agreement with

Ternary q-Virasoro-Witt Hom-Nambu-Lie algebras
In this paper we construct ternary -Virasoro-Witt algebras which
-deform the ternary Virasoro-Witt algebras constructed by Curtright, Fairlie
and Zachos using enveloping algebra techniques. The ternary
Virasoro-Witt algebras constructed by Curtright, Fairlie and Zachos depend on a
parameter and are not Nambu-Lie algebras for all but finitely many values of
this parameter. For the parameter values for which the ternary Virasoro-Witt
algebras are Nambu-Lie, the corresponding ternary -Virasoro-Witt algebras
constructed in this article are also Hom-Nambu-Lie because they are obtained
from the ternary Nambu-Lie algebras using the composition method. For other
parameter values this composition method does not yield Hom-Nambu Lie algebra
structure for -Virasoro-Witt algebras. We show however, using a different
construction, that the ternary Virasoro-Witt algebras of Curtright, Fairlie and
Zachos, as well as the general ternary -Virasoro-Witt algebras we construct,
carry a structure of ternary Hom-Nambu-Lie algebra for all values of the
involved parameters
